Mary was not taken up bodily into heaven. Her body sleeps in the dust awaiting the resurrection. (Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life, he that believes in me though he de, shall live and he that lives and believes on me shall never die…and I will raise him up at the last day.

The doctrine of the Assumption of Mary was introduced by Pope Pius XII in 1950.

The Bible shows that Mary was a Jewish virgin (Miriam) chosen to bring the Messiah into the world. Therefore all generations would call her blessed. Mary under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, in the Magnificat declares that her soul magnifies the Lord and her spirit has rejoiced in God her Saviour. Only a sinner needs a Saviour.

The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception was confirmed in 1854 by Pope Pius IX.

Mary was the human vessel to bring God the Saviour into the world. The power of God the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and caused her to conceive in her womb. The mother’s sinful blood does not go directly into the foetus. That holy thing that was born of her was the Son of God. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men - THE MAN CHRIST JESUS.

The Holy Scriptures are the sole authority regarding matters of faith and conduct - The Word of our God abides forever. Christ’s Word abides forever. There is no warrant at all in Scripture for the veneration of Mary.

Ever heard of the 10 Commandments? Thou shalt have no other Gods before me…Thou shaltmake no graven image, or any likeness of me… etc.

Who are you going to believe the false doctrines of men or the infallible revealed Word of God? That Word will judge you on the last day.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only Saviour, in fact He is called God our Saviour! If we walk in the light as He is in the light we hve fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ His (God the Father’s) Son cleanses us from all sin. Jesu’s death on the cross atones for us, avails for us, is one sacrifice for sins forever. When He had by Himself purged our sins He satdown on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

If you believe this and put faith in Christ’s daeth, burial and resurrection you will be declared righteous! God has promised and sworn and has proven that His sacrifice is complete and acceptable in that He raised Himfrom the dead. Read the scriptures and see for yourself that it is Jesus Christ the Lord that is our Saviour and there is no other.

Praying to saints and to Mary is tantamount to necromancy. The saints in the scriptures are alive on earth and in heaven, the are the redeemed and faithful Christians. To ascribe efficacy to them or Mary as if they can turn the hand of God is to deny the scriptures and the Apostles doctrine and worse… Christ’s work on the cross.

If we could get to heaven by being good and religious and praying, paying, flogging and everything else other than putting faith in God as Saviour then I have one question for you…WHY DID JESUS CHRIST COME ITO THE WORLD IN THE FIRST PLACE!?

Praise God Paul the Apostle gives s the answer: CHRIST JESUS CAME INTO THE WORLD TO SAVE SINNERS OF WHOM I AM CHIEF. AMEN.

^^ NO! That is FALSE!!! Those doctrines weren’t invented at those times. These things were always believed throughout Christendom. They were affirmed these dates.

Even if you don’t like the Catholic Church, look to the other Apostolic Church’s teachings. On August 15 every year in the Orthodox Churches is “The Dormition of the Theotokos.” It is believed She fell asleep (died) and was taken up body and soul into Heaven. This is believed independantly of what the Catholic Church believes.

Our Lady is alive and in Heaven, glorified, because Her Son would NOT allow His Mother to be eaten by worms. He loves Her too much to let her decay in anyway. He loved Her so much that Her body, The Trinity’s most perfect creation, was taken into Heaven. God would not allow His Daughter, His Mother, and His Wife to rot; She was with Him all Her life, She is now with Him in Her entirity after Her life.

Hi,

Yes those doctrines were only affirmed on those dates cited. There were, of course, false gospels and doctrines abounding in the infant church Documents such as the Proto Evangelion taught the Assumption of Mary, etc. There were other recognised *Pseudographa * such as the gospels of Peter, etc.

The church rejected these books as not being in the canon of scripture due to their fabulous content and spurious authorship. Even the Council of Trent, which endorsed the Deutero Canonical books / Apocrypha did not accept these books or doctrines as Holy Writ.

It has never been the belief of all Christians. The story about Mary being taken to heaven because her Son would not allow her body to be eaten by worms is unscriptural and unhistorical. Yes, Mary is in heaven - in spirit awaiting the resurrection like every other human being besides Elijah and Enoch.

Hi Adstrinity,

Please don’t think that it is because I don’t like the Catholic Church ( for which you seem to read Roman Catholic Church) that I disagree with these doctrines. Jude tells usto earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints. In the light that this is a serious matter - a matter of life and death - I appel to all to examine the scriptures and see if these things are so, like the Bereans in the book of Acts.

It is a grave thing to put one’s hope in a false dogma and spurn the teachings of God’s Holy Word.

Hi there! Why The Bereans Rejected Sola Scriptura

Back to the topic at hand, would you? Mary – sinned while pregnant? How did that affect Jesus?

Hi again,

If Mary sinned whilst pregnant that would have no effect whatsoever on Jesus. My limited understnding of biology is that the mother’s blood does not go into the foetus.
Jesus was made in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin (of others) in the flesh, He was flesh - Man and that is all he inherited from His earthly mother, He was the only sinless one - For there is none righteous, no not one. His Spirit was eternal and essential Deity. God in flesh appearing. The seed of the woman (Eve, i.e. sinful womankind) would crush the serpent’s head (Gen 3:15).

[P.s. my reference to Acts 17 was to merely point out that the Bereans read the scriptures to see if those things that Paul taught were so , he was not bringing something that was extra scriptural.]

If Mary did sin while pregnant with Jesus why would it affect Jesus?
Jesus still be sinless right?
But, since sin seperates us from God, and the woman who touched Jesus’ cloak was healed, IF Mary did sin while pregnant, Jesus, being dependant on Mary, would feel it, I think. AND, furthermore, would it have literally killed Him, the sin? God living and developing in a Woman who…I don’t know any minor sin that I could attribute to Her, um, I just really can’t, BUT, if She sinned, however minorly, would Jesus have been able to dwell there? Did He in the womb, just by His act of being there, so intimately with Mary, prevent Her from sinning?

I know, I believe you were the ones who said to you, it does not matter because it does not affect how you believe and it’s a throw-away (not in a disrespectful way) issue because it doesn’t get to the big picture of Jesus’ mission. I accept that answer (don’t agree with it of course, but, accept the premise.)

jmtosh, but, he was bringing something extra scriptural, BUT, if you want to continue on the Bereans, please start a new thread. BUT, Genesis 3:15 is not Eve but Mary. Mary crushed the serpent’s head. Eve befriended the serpent; Mary had emnity with him.

The scriptures teach the doctrine of original sin in that David declares that he was conceived in sin, Psalm 58 teaches we were sinful from the womb. The N.T. shows us in 1 Cor 15:22 that as in ADAM all die so in CHRIST all shall be made alive. All of Adam’s race are sinners, even those who did not sin like he did (such as Anna, Etc) that God might declare all to be under sin. Although sins may be committed in and by the flesh it is the soul that sins shall die! Our huiman hearts are sinful.

the bodily functions of Mary, (even if the mother’s blood feeds the placenta it doesn’t become Jesus’ blood -hopefully a trained biologist can clarify this!) cannot affect the soul or spirit of Christ or even impart sin to his leah.

Even so Mary

I don’t know what the woman who was healed by Jesus by touching him has to do with if Mary sin while pregnant with Jesus but why wouldn’t Jesus be able to dwell in her womb if she sinned? No matter what Jesus would be without sin. So to say Mary was without sin before, during, and after the birth of Jesus would put her on the very same level as Jesus.
What do you mean by it doesn’t get to the big picture of Jesus’ mission? What does his mission have to do with Mary sinning or not?

Even so Mary was a sinner in that she was of Adam’s line but was a virgin and deemed a fit vessel for the Son of God to be born from.

Actually

Gen 3
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
** he will crush your head, **
and you will strike his heel."

is not about Mary doing the crushing here but her offspring Jesus.

Christ Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament scriptures. When God addressed Eve at the Fall He said that He would put enmity between HER seed and that of the serpent. The serpent would bruise his heel but He would crush the serpent’s head. Christ, the seed of the woman crushed Satan’s head not Mary!!!

Yes
The phrase “you will strike his heels” refers to Satan’s repeated attempts to defeat Christ during his life on earth/
The phrase "He will crush your head’ foreshadows Satan’s defeat when Christ rose from the dead.
Already God was revealing his plan to defeat Satan and offer salvation to the world through His Son.

The woman who was healed and Mary: What I was trying to connect was that God healed her, just by her touching His clothes. How much more would God fix the Woman who He is inside?

I don’t think Jesus would be able to stay in Her womb if She sinned because the wages of sin is death. God, being dependant on a sinful woman would be cut off from life. Jesus would remain without sin, assuming He was not in anyway born into sin, but, would the Foetus spontaneously abort? He would still be without sin, but, would He have been alive?

It wouldn’t put Mary on the same level because She was a creture; Jesus is God.

Isn’t that what you said earlier? That if She did or didn’t, this wasn’t what was essential for your belief?

ACTUALLY, note, in that passage, it is emnity between the serpent and the Woman, so, we accept that. In Hebrew (I believe), there was no, “he/she” differential, only, “it”, so, it reads, “it will crush your head.” When St. Jerome translated this into Latin, he used, “She”, for Mary. When it is translated today, it is translated, “He,” for Jesus.

That is why one sees paintings and statues of the following, Mary on top of the world, trampling the devil underfoot.

Either way, it is understood that it is, ultimately, Jesus who is the devil’s undoing, although, Mary saying yes to God’s will was the beginning.

The wage of sin is death correct. Why would God depend on anyone and why would he be cut off from life?
Would Jesus be protected from sin no matter what and how could he be with sin if he is God?
Why would God allow Jesus’s fetus to spontaneously abort? Why would he put Jesus into a sinful body just to allow it to self abort? It would not make any sense.
True its not essentail for my belief but jus wondering why you believe it is.

With due respect the important teaching of Gen 3:15 is the enmity of the SEED of the Woman (the seed is the subject). This theme of the seed being developed in Isaac being called Abraham’s seed and a direct type of Christ as elaborated in Galatians by ther Apostle Paul. That seed was Christ. It is a dreadful misunderstanding of scripture to portray the woman herself as crushing the serpent.

Getting back to the theme of sin. Christ the everlasting God, the Word made flesh would have to be born of sinful woman to be in the likeness of sinful flesh, yet without sin. If he was born of a sinless mother he wouldn’t be truly human of Adam’s or David’s line.
The eternal God was sinless and so was Christ, therefore His flesh was perfect as He was not born in sin having never sinned Himself and being Deity.

Yes, sin separates from God, but to rescue a fallen separated mankind God took on flesh and as you well said touched sinners. He ate and drank with them. He healed them. The virtue was in Christ. Perhaps Mary was sanctified by Christ but as Elizabeth said “blessed is she that believed”. So Mary’s faith in the Messiah justified her. Sin was no longer imputed to her as the scripture says " a sword shall pierce your own soul also".

Yes, you are right in that Protestants do not see it as an issue whether r not Mary was sinless when Jesus was born as the main doctrine is that Christ would be born of sinful man / womankind according to the scriptures.

One can only declare as Paul did “great is the mystery of Godliness, God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world and received up into glory”

The wage of sin is death correct. Why would God depend on anyone and why would he be cut off from life?

But, that’s exactly the point, though. God would depend on somebody because He became human. Therefore, He was entirely dependant on His Mother and step-father, but, especially His Mother the first, oh, let’s say 2 years of life. God growing up depended on His parents adequately taking care of Him.

We know that Jesus was tempted but He was tempted externally by the devil, that is, He didn’t have the voice within Him daring Him to disobey God. IF Mary was a sinner, She would have the devil, in a sense, inside Her. She would be tempted from within. IF the devil is inside Her, would Jesus be able to reside within Her? He would be so very completely at Her mercy (and indeed He was).

That is a good point. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

There is another thing, let’s just say that She had a sinful body, that’s one thing, would She have been able to sin with God inside of Her? This is not taking into account Her first 12-13 years of life or life post-Nativity until dea…Her natural completion on this Earth.

I MUST, in all good conscience, disagree. The Protoevangellium states that enmity will be between the woman and Her offspring. There are at least two people there who is the enemy of the snake. As I explained earlier, over 1000 years before the Reformation, when St. Jerome translated the Bible, the Bible the Church had, it was She because of the ipsa/ipsum disgression that we have She will do the crushing.

15 I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.

15 “She shall crush”… Ipsa, the woman; so divers of the fathers read this place, conformably to the Latin: others read it ipsum, viz., the seed. The sense is the same: for it is by her seed, Jesus Christ, that the woman crushes the serpent’s head.

No, if He was born of a sinless mother, He would be human. It is us who are less than human. God created man perfect, sans sin. That’s how humans should have been. We forfeited that to be less than what we should be.

What is this, “sinful flesh.” That doesn’t even make sense. If Jesus was in sinful flesh, He would be naturally sinful and have sin.

Where did St. Elizabeth say that?

Where does it say the annointed would be born of sinful humans in the Old Testament?

Elizabeth says this in the Gospel according to Luke Chapter 1 Verse 45.

Looking at Genesis 3:15 in context we see God saying to the serpent that He would put enmity between the woman and the serpent and the seed of the woman and the serpent. The promise is that the seed of the woman (in this context Eve or women in general, i.e. fallen woman) would crush the serpent’s head. Hence, in Genesis 4:1 Eve’s exclamation: See I have gotten a man from YHWH.

This plan of redemption promised to our fallen parents is progressively revealed throughout the entire Old Testament. I narrows down from Eve’s seed to Noah, Shem and eventually Abraham’s seed. Then Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s seed, Judah’s seed, Rahab’s seed, Jesse’s root, David’s Son via Bathsheba, and so on down to Joseph and Mary.

The promise that the redeemer would come through these sinful men and women was received by faith. Nowhere in the Old Testament is it even hinted that there would be a sinless person other than through the anointed servant Messiah - YHWH our rghteousness. On the contrary the Old Testament emphasises the woeful sinfulness
of man and the glad tidings of redemption from sin.

If Mary was sinless then there would be no need for Christ to come as God could have somehow perfected humanity without Him. The sad truth that all have sinned, God looked upon mankind and saw that thereas none righjteous no not one (not even Job who was described as perfect or Anna who was blameless in the law) therefore His own arm brought salvation.

As declared to the shepherds: To you (fallen mankind and specifically Israel) isborn this day in the city of David a Saviour who is Christ the Lord. You will call His name JESUS [YHWH Salvation] for He shall save His people (including Mary) from ther sins.

The Proto Evangelium promoted by Jerome was not universally accepted as canonical by the church. It is correctly classifed among the Pseudigrapha. Not even the Roman Catholic Church recognises this document as canonical.

In fact, the Catholic Encyclopaedia describes the Proto Evangelium as being “that portion of the book of Genesis (3:15) wherein God gives prediction of the promise of redemption to fallen man.”

So, by virtue of the fact that mankind fell and is sinful and was promised a redeemer from sin from his / her own race and that only God is sinless, the logical corollary is that Christ would be born from sinful men and women. But God di what only He could do in that He Himself took on flesh BY BEING BORN OF A VIRGIN. That was the only way that God could become flesh and remain fully God and fully man.

As to how He could so without inheriting sin from Mary - with God all things are possible. He had no human father so Adam’s sin was not imparted to his soul / being - He was and is eternally perfect in Spirit and came from above. Yet he was born of Mary of Adam’s fleshly line without sin. In Romans 1:3 Paul says: “Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which ecame of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead.”

In Romans 8:3 the Apostle Paul says: "For the Torahin being incapable, in that it was frail through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the ***likeness ***of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.

THE ONLY SAVIOUR IS CHRIST THE LORD.
