All it means, besides the usual benefits that come with a friendship (albeit a "virtual friendship), really, is that you can see photos of me and my family, so you can attach a face to my name.

And, I assume that it keeps the dialogue civil and, well, “friendly”.

I attempted that with another poster and it did not help, so I happily “unfriended” her.

It’s an honor to be concidered your friend, however I hope I’d be civil whether or not you made me ‘your friend’.

I hope I don’t disappoint.

As for the use of the word “until” to describe Mary’s and Joseph’s supposed consummation…

Does it say in Scripture that Joseph had sexual relations with Mary after the baby was born? :hmmm: I certainly could not find it anywhere in my Scriptural readings! Just that they had no relations UNTIL Jesus’ birth.

The word “until” does not indicate anything that occurred subsequently.

Here’s some examples of other verses which use the word “until” but don’t indicate what occurred afterwards…

In 2 Samuel 6:23, we read that Michal, the daughter of Saul, had no child “until” the day of her death. (We can presume that she didn’t have children afterwards, either. :p)

[BIBLEDRB]Hebrews 1:13 [/BIBLEDRB]and [BIBLEDRB]1 Timothy 4:13[/BIBLEDRB] are similar examples

Good point.

However, if the words for brothers and sisters of Jesus are accurately translated, it would be fair to assume Joseph and Mary had children, would it not?

-What’s the measure of manhood anyway?
Hands down it’s Hugh Jackman and Patrick Dempsey.

😛

(Ok, ok. I’m only kidding, folks! No disrespect meant to my husband nor my marriage vows!)

To me, the measure of manhood is the degree that a man lives out his vocation as a husband and father and the degree that this man demonstrates his dignity as a creature created in the image and likeness of God. The degree that he shows LOVE to God, his wife and children, neighbor and country is the measure of manhood. The degree that he demonstrates the Christian virtues and witnesses to the Truth is the measure of his manhood. The degree that he is united to Christ and participates in the life of the Risen Lord and strives to be “imitators of God as beloved children and walks in love”.

I don’t think I know who this Hugh and this Patrick is so I don’t know if I measure up.

As for the rest of your post, I’m sure I couldn’t live up to half of what you said. But I hope I never stop trying.

Not at all, Dokimas.

I’ve lived in this country for 43 years, so I understand this obsession with Jesus’ brothers meaning only “womb brothers”, but in my country of origin, this understanding is quite different. In fact, in my native country, I have 36 brothers, just on my dad’s side! That is, I have 36 male cousins that I call by the designation, “Kuya”, which means, “older brother”.

Or course, even though I call them “brother”, they did not share my mother’s womb.

It’s a cultural way to show how close extended family is.

Sadly, that concept of being as close to your cousin as you are to your brother is quite foreign here.

So…in the culture of the ancient near east I am quite certain that if you were even a distant cousin of Jesus you would have been welcomed into their humble home with a hearty, “Welcome, dear brother!! So glad to meet you. Come, eat with your brother Jesus!” 👍

If I wasn’t clear, let me be clear. God has given most people a sex drive. As I understand Scripture, the only way to satisfy the sex drive with another person is in the context of marriage.
Then sex with oneself is okay when one is not married?.Scripture only to prove your reply
Having children is wonderful. However, I would tell anyone who would listen, that it may be very dangerous having children in this prestent wicked age. (on many levels and for many reasons)
You know i thought that way once, that is before i woke up to the truth…Such a statement reflects poorly on your personal faith.
Wasn’t it Jesus, speaking of the end of the age, that said that it would be very hard for a pregnant woman?
When Christ spake these words He was speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem, not of the last days.

Thank you for putting words in my ‘mouth’.

I have two children and my wife lost a third. No sterility here.

Read Paul: he give no ‘command’ to have children but he does command that spouses are not to withhold sex from each other except for prayer. Paul knew the OT as a Pharasee. Did Jesus (in the NT) command us to have children? I can’t think of a verse; can you? I’d expect if having babies (instead of using birht control from time to time or often) was so important, Jesus would say something about it.
Amen brother

Obsession? I read the words and they speak for themselves. I don’t make any big deal out of it.

It seems catholics are obsessed with the idea Mary and Joseph had no more children. You get that by your tradition which seems to be by reading into the Word of God.

As I said, read the context of Jesus’ response. Brothers makes more sense, IMO.

Nice antidote, though.

I have no verse. I don’t think sex with self is a good idea. Do you have a verse on the subject?

Thank you for your comment about my personal faith. You must have more faith if you believe some of the things taught by the CC which are not in the Bible.

I will admit using the verse I did from Jesus was a stretch. I was illustrating danger in having children in this day and age.

It’s not good to take a thought out of context; it’s not good to read into what someone says that is not there.

Would someone please share the verses from Scripture that is behind the idea of not using contraception, but having as many children as one can?

Please don’t us the verses about the man who disobeyed God by spilling his sperm. That’s not about spilling sperm but about disobeying - context, context, context.

Hi Dokimas, As fear as I have read there is none except abpuy Oran and the scripture To be fruitful and multiply. I have look and researched but none. I agree about Oran so I will be prepared to get my head chopped off along with you.

I have also be called a lot of names here on other threads cause I do npt believe Birth Control is a sin.

Thank you but you are wrong period. Oh and thank you for calling me a liar I think that is a name?

My advice to you is get a life. The reason you think is not a valid reason just because you think so. Oh and by the way you and Mr. Chesteron are on ignore so blast away.
