I think you folks may be over reacting. First off, it looks like it was done in a conference room at a hotel, rather than a church. Second, its by Call To Action, which is essentially a schismatic org, and the celebrant may not even be an actual priest.

In other words, it wasn’t a Catholic Mass.

Jim

That really didn;t seem like a Catholic mass to me. What struck me was the altar boy who looked very disinterested and the priest appeared to be blessing a glass of kool aid. Very strange indeed, I doubt God was at all present at that “mass.”
“Where two or more are gathered…”

🤷

Honestly, I just didn’t get it.

Assuming that the Consacration was valid and the priest was validly ordained, then doesn’t this amount to doing nothing much more than mocking the Holy Eucharist and the Church’s highest prayer, the Mass? Does this not mock the Sacrifice of the Altar? If the Consacration was valid, then the living Body and Blood was surrounded by…I don’t know what those costumes were to be!

Now, the priest, in order to validly Consacrate, has to have the intention of doing what Holy Mother Church intends. If a group like this is gathering in open dissent, I would think that that would be reason to doubt the validity of the Consacration. I think Trent stated that you need valid matter, the words of Institution, and intention.

Well, if you have any doubt about where these people stand on the various issues, you can read their own words:

ctanorcal.org

And I’ll note that the video is posted on their website, which means that it was shot by them and they want to promote it. In other words, it wasn’t shot undercover by someone trying to expose it.

Also, I have attended Masses in hotel ballrooms (eg., at the Call th Holiness conferences calltoholiness.com ), and if done properly they can be every bit as reverent as if done in a church.

I was hoping someone would come in with common sense. Thanks Jim. It’s the same old thing, panic panic and then we find out it wasn’t even a Mass or it wasn’t even in a Church or wasn’t even in a Catholic Mass.

Has Call to Action been deemed an official schismatic group now? Makes me wonder what the Vatican’s take on them is. I’m sure they are not happy but have they come out and said anything official? Maybe that could be a different thread. 🙂

So has CTA been officially designated a schismatic group like the SSPX? It seems that whenever the MSM reports on this kind of thing, CTA is a group of concerned citizens and the SSPX is always mentioned as a breakaway group. Not that the MSM gets anything right, but there is a difference in how the two are portrayed. I’d be interested to know what their official status is. There is also the concern about leading people astray through this false mass, although given the age range presented, it seems more like a mutual self-admiration club than anything else.

FWIW, in the comments on Fr. Z’s blog it was reported that the celebrant was Bishop Emeritus of Victoria, British Columbia, Remi J. De Roo. On the “Activities” page of his website he promotes his attendance at the CTA conference. So if it is a retired bishop presiding, is it a Catholic Mass?

Is it really that much better if it was just a bunch of Catholics getting together with a fake priest and having a fake Mass? Are we supposed to be relieved if that was what it was (and I have strong doubts that we can dismiss it as not a real Mass).

BTW, I didn’t see any panic in this thread.

The level of incredulity here is truly astounding.

Maybe it’s actually a satanic “Black Mass” put on by the Church of Satan. Yeah, that’s it.

Call to Action doesn’t hide what their agenda is. Read their website, for which I’ve already posted the link.

I don’t understand the reason for the large headed “puppets”.
This is just speculation here, but I’d bet the puppets contained women.

This way, they could have women ‘concelebrate’ in a way that they could publically deny that they were concelebrating.

No they have not. They have been excommunicated in the Diocese of Lincoln, but that decision, by definintion, only applies to CTA members who reside in the diocese’s boundries. No other bishop in the US has issued an excommunication.

I think it was ridiculously funny looking. I laughed out loud, seriously. If we look hard enough we can find all sorts of crazy Catholic things out on the internet. I don’t feel threaten by these people because our faith and the Church is much too strong for that. I would never attend anything so ridiculous and I doubt anyone on here would. Look at this for what it is, silliness. It’s just too silly to be shocked, sorry.

Lepanto, I’ve been to Call to Action website and have read through there stuff several years ago. I even visited and registered on thier message board but I found them to be too far the other way so I left. They are extremists just like extermists who come on here and get so caught up with rules and rituals that they have forgotten what the basic message is and even some cases disregarding what the Pope actually says. Please dont’ ask me to clarify that because that would be a different thread.

As I said in my post which you didn’t even brother to address. What has the Vatican said about “Call to Action”? I am genuinely curious what is happening on that score.

I don’t think the Vatican is going to comment on every dissident group out there (there wouldn’t be enough time). Besides this is more the responsibility of the local bishop.

Nevertheless, please see post 29.

I haven’t watched the video yet. Somehow, I imagine it will just be pretty lame and stupid. Yet my imagination has me in wild laughter at the idea of a Mass entirely with hand puppets. Some fancily dressed little velvet lady at the pulpit proclaiming in falsetto voice, “A reading from the book of Ephesians,” just does something to tickle me. Maybe a blue haired cookie monster, “ME WANT COMMUNION!!! MMMMMMMMM.”

:rotfl:

😃 “Eucharist!” chomp, chomp, chomp.

I think the first two readings were by X the Owl and Henrietta Pussycat, followed by “Mother” Goose, parent of the King of the United States, Garfield Goose, proclaiming the Gospel. Oliver J. Dragon gave the homily.

Seriously, why give CTA the attention?
