***twetymom and I have danced this song before, and she is a wonderful dancer, but always wants to lead:D

Friend, I have explained this multiple times before. At least twice in this string, but I’ll do it again just for you!

Catholics neither believe, teach or practice that “priest” forgive our sins. [Just had this dicussion with Ed earlier today.]

Here is how it actually works.

ALL of humanity has a specific role to do,
The Priest has a different and separate role, and God has the main role.

I would point out the “model” for the Sacrament of Confession, which as I will show, is both created and mandated by Jesus Himself, is based on Old Testament Practices.

** Lev.5:6 *****" and he shall bring his guilt offering to the LORD for the sin which he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin."

** 2Chr.29: 21 **" And they brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven he-goats for a sin offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah. And he [GOD] commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD"

The Point here is that the idea of priest being not simply used BUT ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL AS SIN FORGIVENESS INTERCESSORS IS NOT NEW.

The role, mandate and responsibility of ALL humanity is to obey Christ and Confess there sins to a Catholic Priest. WHY? I know you dn’t want to hear this, so look it up;its still in your KJB!

** John.20 Verses 20 to 23**"When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send YOU! " Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

The role of the Catholic priest is 1. To hear your Confession of your sins. 2. Determine if you are truly sory for them? 3. To determine if you are committed [with God’s help] to avoid sinning this way again. [EX. if your sin is sex outside marriage and your living with your partner, your NOT sincerly committed to not so sinning again, and your sin will not be forgiven. [COLOR=“red”]4.
to council you on how not to sin again, 5 To issue an appropriate penance [in place of your OT goat offering]. 6 with the words:" I ABSOLVE YOU FROM YOUR SINS, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER; THE SON; AND THE HOLY SPIRIT."

NOTE, He does NOT use the words “I FORGIVE YOU”! HOWEVER THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS!

THE ROLE OF GODis the actual forgiving of your sins that the priest has 1. petitioned God to do for you on your behalf. 2. Authorized God as Christ has mandated him to do, to actually forgive you your sins, which requires this specific process. READ Mt. 16: 18-19 for further evidence.

And friend, if Christ did not tell you [an all of us to go to Confession] what Bible are you reading? Its in mine and in the KJB.

PLEASE don’t say God didn’t mean it, God did not understand what He was mandating, or God was lying! READ WHAT IT SAYS! Then friend do it:thumbsup:

Why do people continue to use Old Testament scripture when speaking of confession and priests, because burnt offerings and sin offerings went out with the old covenant!😛 Hebrews 4:16 declares,“Let us boldly enter the throneroom of grace!” So you see, you have no need of a priest; you can approach God on your own(one on one). 1John1:9 says that if we confess our sins unto Him…" And He didn’t tell me to go see a catholic priest, either! Plus, Jesus told me and you not to cal any man on this earth Father!

the scripture is pretty explicite, so we should not add or take away from it, Peter is the rock it does not say Peters faith. Pretty clear, dont see the dilemma, our lord put it pretty cut and dry.

Then why do we need to go to a priest, when we can go directly to God, through Jesus:confused:?
scripture tells us to confess to your brothers and sisters, so why not a priest, plus it also helps him get to know the problems of his laity so he can better guide them through life.

Correct Bill but God did give that Priest authority stand in for him and do so. So really the Priest does have that right. It is never on his own authority but its Gods authority working through him. ANd if the Priests says to me you have total absolution that came from God. And that is a sin that if total forgiven by God through the Priest.
Very true I was just pointing this out to my noncathloic friends

Well, obviously scripture isn’t that explicit, or we wouldn’t have so many disagreements among believers! Christ never does directly refer to Peter as a rock, however, Jesus Himself has been called a Rock! How convenient that Peter’s name translated means rock:p It is fun though to imagine that Jesus would build His church upon Himself, huh?

not sure what bible you read but in mine he refers to Peter as the rock that he will build his church upon. if people would listen to what the early church fathers taught us their would not be so much dissagreement. Seems today people will follow any bible thumping preacher that screams and yells.

For anyone who doesn’t believe that scripture speaks to ALL of us, then tell me; why bother reading the Bible? What does Matthew 4:4 mean to everyone? How about Phillipians 4:13, or Jeremiah 29:11? Through Jesus Christ, and His horrible death(thank you Lord!), on the Cross, God has become more accessible to us!👍 Sure, when Jesus was teaching and walking with His disciples, they were the recipients of His wise sayings and Commandments; but down through history, we have all learned from the parables and scriptures! The apostles are gone, so now each and every one of us is charged with"feeding the sheep!" So, as long as we have breath, we will continue to debate what scripture really means, relying heavily on guidance from the Holy Spirit!

King James Version! And I’ll read that verse again, but I don’t think it says,"Peter you are a rock!"Does that sort of thing happen at catholic churches too? If so, I will continue to stay away:cool:

so do you dissregard what was taught to us from the past? Why do people believe that it all stopped or changed with the death of the apostles. They were training people to replace themselves to pass on what they had been taught by Christ. Its as if you guys believe after they died it was all of a sudden a whole new ball game to make up the rules as you see fit. Come on my brother you are smarter than that.

Why not Jesus; He is the High Priest by the way!

I confess my sins to Jesus everyday. Confession is a sacrament but the priest does not forgive me the Lord does. You are trying to read something into it that isnt there.

There you go, putting words in my mouth! I don’t disregard what was taught in the past; I read my Bible every day! I believe that the Bible, God’s Holy Word, was written for all who believe in Jesus and trust God! And thank you, I am smarter than that! I just don’t agree with everything the catholic church teaches! Who’s to say certain things have not been changed or tweaked over the years?

Nope, W-R-O-N-G! Merely saying that if God forgives sins, why do we need a priest; I mean I don’t! Jesus’s death on the Cross tore the veil, which had been separating man from God, and before a priest had to intercede on behalf of the people! But when Jesus said,“It is finished,” the way to the throneroom was made accessible!
