CCC 1035 states:
Lets say I am a Catholic and the following happens:The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, “eternal fire.” The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.
*]I go to confession on Saturday
*]Do my penance
*]Purposely miss Church on Sunday to go golfing
*]Die on Monday
According to the CCC, I would go to hell. This does not sound right to me.
I thought that as long as you were baptized and believed that Jesus was your Lord and Savior, that you would burn off sin in purgatory.
Can someone explain this to me?
Thank you!
