Please cite the reference on 40,000.

As well, there are many Catholic denominations, so the claim for unity would be somewhat flawed if the point is that unification is equal to correct teaching. At a minimum, the Great Schism put that thought to bed.

Pax.
There aren’t many Catholic denominations.
  1. There are Christians in union with the Pope, Eastern and Western. ONE denomination. The Church.
2, There are Christians from Eastern Orthodoxy, some of whom use the term Catholic. Essentially, more or less, ONE unity, pretty much. Oriental Orthodox, maybe sort of similar/parallel (?)
  1. All other Christians, some of whom use the term Catholic in their name.
**Please **don’t use the term “40,000” or 30,000, or other lurid figures for that third category. It drives even calm, rational Protestant men to have wild bile. They will see red, or whatever color rage is, and they will ignore every intelligent point in your post. If you have any. Worse, for days after you push the red button, they will ignore every other Catholic’s intelligent points, even MINE. So avoid that tragedy.

You make your point simply by saying “plural”.

What happened in England though is not necessarily the same as the Protestant Reformation. Henry VIII had actually issued a very tough criticism of Luther and a defense of Catholic tradition. This was of course, before the issue over divorcing his wife came up. I don’t think Henry VIII really cared about any of the doctrines espoused by the Luther or any of the other Reformers.
Decree of nullity.

Henry did oppose Luther, at the point the * Assertio Septem Sacramentorum* was issued, though much of the book was not from Henry’s pen.

You’re picking at nits. No one wants division. No one is blameless for it.

Jon
Even if that’s true, someone, sometime has to do something to correct the division instead of feeding it on and on. The TRUTH is still the TRUTH even if no one believes it, as Archbishop Fulton Sheen said. To follow an untruth or a false teaching is not the way to go. Pride is tough to overcome. God Bless, Memaw

If we were smart we would ALL be doing everything we can to help heal these terrible wounds in spite of what has happened in the past. I think we will all have to stand before God and make an account of what we did to correct past mistakes. Seek the TRUTH, God Bless, Memaw
Lord have mercy upon us

Jon

I think they wanted to “have it their way” also. I think Henry VIII broke away because he wanted a divorce and the Church wouldn’t and couldn’t grant him one because his marriage to Catherine was a Sacrament. God Bless, Memaw
Henry didn’t want a divorce. He wanted a decree of nullity, as to the sacramental validity of his marriage to Katherine. Which meant, was his marriage valid, i.e., was it a valid sacrament

Credit due to John XXIII, Paul VI, JP II, and Benedict XVI on that score.

From what I understand even protestant books and writings own up to 20or30,000 different protestant denominations. That’s not our fault! God Bless, Memaw

As I expected, this was a nice try, no points.

And the same narrative claims 240 something Catholic Churches.
As Spock would say,“Sauce for the goose, Mr. Saavik.”

Yes it was but he couldn’t accept that because he so desperately wanted an heir. God Bless, Memaw

That is not true. Some that “call” themselves Catholic are no part of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church. God Bless, Memaw

That he did. He rather wanted La Boleyn, too.

And his case was about as strong as they usually were in those days. Much stronger than his sister’s. She got her decree. Not as much politics involved. No Holy Roman Emperor, either.

Not sure where I read this but some think she was his own daughter by a woman he had an older girl with. God Bless, memaw

According to the myth, Anne was the daughter of Elizabeth Boleyn, by Henry and his hormones…You likely read it in the usual place to find stuff like that; some bad history. Ultimately, the origin seems to have been with Friar William Peto, an Observant Friar of Greenwich, who opposed Henry’s marriage to Anne, and seems to be the earliest source for the myth. Others echoed it. I’ve never found a historian that did.

“There are none so blind as those who will not see.”

You can’t blame me for trying. 🙂
Just because the first sneaky and subtle poster was a serpent, doesn’t mean nice guys can’t also use those qualities. Within reason.
