They can classify it however they want, but that still doesn’t make it two different Churches. The Catholic Church is not a denomination. It is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ, with the Pope as its head. It can never be anything else. God Bless, Memaw
Yes, exactly. Therefore you cannoy either spout the nonsense about 30-40000 denominations, because it is based on the same faulty classification.

It’s not nonsense, the Protestants themselves claim 30 to 40,000 different denominations. They do not all believe the same things. God Bless, Memaw

Some “protestants” perhaps.

Lutherans will talk about “denominations” in a general sense, but we profess one holy, catholic and apostolic church and make a non-exclusive claim to be that church.

Why are the figures seen not 10,000? Why not 50,000? Seems like there is a source that is getting cited. Wonder what it might be.

And that number tracks nicely a certain sociological survey, published regularly. Tthat counts things in an idiosyncratic way.

And the way they counted in the way they did is problematic, and leads to all sorts of confusion, as we witness here on a regular basis.

Of course it’s nonsense. It may be the way one specific group counted everything from mainline denominations to store front churches in Harlem, but it’s still a number that is nonsense.

It is their chosen method. Must satisfy them, somehow. Can’t blame them if they don’t structure stuff to assist other folk in proselytizing.

I have heard that many times on Journey Home, EWTN. From protestant ministers that have become Catholic. Some have said it is from a protestant source. BUT, all you have to do is look around and you can see the many, many different denominations for yourself. Look in a phone book. I would imagine the reason why the number is so flexible is because denominations come and go, and do not have a permanent home. as does their teachings. Didn’t Jesus pray that all would be one in Him?? I think all this division is like another hole in Jesus’ heart. Watch “Journey Home” on EWTN, on Monday nights at 7 pm, CST. God Bless, Memaw

There are denominations and there are small churches. They exist all over the world. Some are large institutions and some are small churches that meet in people’s homes. That is what Christianity is. It is communities of like minded followers of Christ.

Jesus prayed that we may be one, and we ARE one. We are one as His believers. Are we one mega-institution? No, of course not. That has never been the case, not even from the earliest days. The Church has always been divided - in geography, in theology, and in how we believe. But THAT we believe is what holds us together.

I do believe you are so right and He promised to be with us always, even unto the end of the world!

They post EWTN The Journey Home on YouTube:

I recommend the following interviews, but most of them are interesting:

There are NO 240 Catholic Church’s as you put it. There is only ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC Church under the Pope of Rome. Founded by Jesus Christ over 2.000 years ago. It is the only one that can trace it’s history faithfully, back to the Apostles and Jesus Christ. All the Rites, and we are ALL one, within that One Church believes the same thing, has the same Pope and the same Seven Sacraments. It was that very Church that gave us the Sacred Scriptures. Jesus promised His Church would always be under the protection of the Holy Spirit and would NEVER teach error. And that certainly stands out today when so many have followed the way of secular society in many things that are forbidden by God. And HE promised HE would be with His Church till the end of the world. The Catholic Church has outlived Kings, rulers, dictators, nations and even those that have persecuted it. It has outlived those from withing that would have liked to destroy it.And it will continue to do so.The Catholic Church is HOLY, we are the sinners, but thank God that Jesus gave us a way to Follow HIM in TRUTH and Grace. I pray we ALL seek HIS Mercy during the HOLY Year of Mercy. God Bless, Memaw

I suggest you study Paul’s writings and he what he has to say about HOW and WHAT we believe. And Yes, the Catholic Church does go back to Jesus Christ and history proves that. Denial is a powerful tool. God Bless, Memaw
