Random Girl Gave Me Her Phone Number

So I was at a weekend retreat for Catholic youth…Right before the retreat ended this girl, who I hadn’t talked to all weekend, gave me her phone number and requested that I text her.

If this had happened anywhere else, I would have thrown the piece of paper away. However, it happened at a Catholic retreat. Part of me says since it happened at a Catholic retreat, I should at least get to know her (I wouldn’t actually start dating her until I had gotten to know her better). Just because she was at a Catholic retreat doesn’t mean she was there willingly, but according to her name tag, she had been there before. It’s not the type of retreat you go to again if you don’t like it.

I discussed this with two female friends. One said to ignore it; the other said that it would be “polite” to respond.

Thoughts?
Before reading what others wrote: You don’t “lose” anything by responding. In fact, you can practice polite writing even (or rather especially, depending on perspective) the content of your message is going to come down to thank you but no.

Secondly, please note that at this day and age women need to be more active if they don’t want to remain single, Catholics in general need to be more active if they are to find someone with compatible beliefs (a while ago at least Protestants believed what we did about fornication, contraception etc.). And she only asked you to text her, in which she wasn’t excessively forward. (I certainly have engaged in more overt fishing as a man and I suspect you have also. ;))

All in all, I am of the mostly unanimous opinion that you should write.

Now, after reading what others said: you can control the tempo in which the relationship (or non-relationship) develops. You can say you’re not comfortable sharing this information or doing that thing with her or talking about X. Women do that all the time.

Besides, it’s possible she has some common sense about her and isn’t promising herself too much too fast. Perhaps she saw you as a guy worth learning more about, not necessarily a fast-track to a relationship (especially if she’s a responsible girl).

I am fairly certain that I am called to marriage

I literally hadn’t talked to her for all of the retreat.

She basically stole my name tag and stuck her number in with my name tag. She didn’t really say anything.

The note had her name, her number, and a message that said “text me!”
Then I don’t know what to tell you. But all I can say it doesn’t hurt to try. But like I said if she turns out to be a nutter you don’t have to be friends.

Agreed. But not before you let the internets know that you got mad swag. 😛
LOL!

I wish I could claim I have women give me their numbers all the time…usually the numbers they give me aren’t real…:o

Can i just say how hilarious, desperate, CAF, male members are!!! Thanks for the laugh guys!
Desperate? Give me a break! I’ve had women give me their numbers before. Well… one woman, at least. Then I married her.

Oh… shoot, you got me! 😃

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: This reminded me of once, long ago, when I was at a retreat and this really pretty girl sort of gradually attached herself to me during the recreation periods. Nice personality, too, though it’s kind of hard to get to know anybody at a retreat (and one of the priests sort of indicated his disapproval) Took some courage on her part to do it. She gave me her phone number, but then I LOST IT :eek: Regretted that for a good two or three weeks. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: It embarressed the thunder out of me to think she probably thought I didn’t think enough of her to call.

Call the girl. It wasn’t easy for her to do that, and there is no point in embarrassing her, which you will do if you don’t call her.

As for the OP text her and say: “i texted” 🙂 and then call like 2 minutes later so she can see you do things without being told lol
ouch!

Yes!!! It is difficult **enuff **trying to find a good Catholic mate. You met her at a - hello!- retreat right? The girl has spunk! Girls have the same issues as men in trying to find a good mate. I credit her for her initiative! GO for it!

She’s a) “Catholic enough to be at a Catholic retreat” and b) basically walked up pushed her # on you.

!!!

Stuff like that does not happen to mere mortals. It is the stuff dreams are made of. Do you know how many decent Catholic guys pray for exactly that to happen???

My advice? Call and/or text IMMEDIATELY, as in, within 24 hours, particularly if you find her even remotely attractive. You’ll kick yourself for decades if you don’t. Plus time and tide wait for no man, and women love a guy who seizes the day.
Hahaha!

True!

Blessings!

🙂

I am so sorry to hear that!

…You should have given her your number, too. But I have done plenty of stupid things with women (like not talking to a girl I am really interested in and then hoping that I will see her again when there are a lot of people I only see once), so I shouldn’t be one to talk!

There should be an 11th commandment about that
Tell me about it. It’s only happend to me once, but I was still irritated. I thought we hit it off-I met her at a bookstore we talked for about an hour. Oh well, it was about ten years ago.

Still irritates me though.

It sounds like me giving my number to a rather shy and quiet girl (but she seemed so cute and innocent!). She never called and has now been avoiding me for the past couple of months. Being a chatterbox, I must have talked her ear off one too many times!

LOL! About the chatterbox thing-I’m surprised my friends put up with me. I usually can’t shut up either.

I’m with you my friend! 👍

The only girl that was bona fide interested in me before I went to law school, I lost that number too. I still remember the name and surname and the street name over half a life later. I just couldn’t recall the house number and apartment number.

Sounds like you should go door to door and start knocking! 😃

Lol. That was when I was 13. I’m 28 now. I remember scouting all the Facebook clones when they appeared but I doubt I’d even recognise her in a picture. Heck, I probably couldn’t even recognise my last big flame from January 2010, of whom I think mostly daily, mostly against my will. 😉
