For your information, that “beautiful cathedral” was renovated some years ago with the help of financial assistance of the LDS Church. LDS Church has no quarrel with the Catholic Church.

zerinus

If the Mormon church has no quarrel with the Catholic church, then who is keeping you away from Christ? You seek Jesus. He is THERE in the Catholic church. You love Him. We love Him. Stand in His presence TODAY.

As Jesus on the water said to Peter in the boat: “Come” (Matthew 14:28-29).

As Jesus said to doubting Thomas: : “Do not persist in your unbelief, but believe”. Thomas’ reply to Jesus: “My Lord and my God” (John 20:27-28)

The presence and peace of Christ to all of you.

The LDS Church is the only true and living Church of God on earth today. There is no other.

That is what the argument boils down to. There obviously can’t be two one and only true churches. But the Mormon claim can’t be verified apart from praying and asking God to show us a sign. The Catholic Church’s claims can be verified simply by looking at the continuity of the Catholic Church’s authority from the first century. I don’t have to pray about the truth of the Catholic Church – its truthfulness is self-evident. It is the organization which God has used since the time of Christ to spread his gospel throughout the entire world. It is the kingdom that started out small and is rolling forth throughout the entire earth. It’s missionary labors continue to do more than any other organization to bring Christ to the world. Joseph Smith and his companions had almost no real contact with Catholicism on the American frontier. About all they had to look at was Evangelical Protestantism, and I can understand why they would have been unimpressed and seen the need for something better. The reason there are so many people leaving Protestantism for Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy is because Protestantism simply does not have any authority. It is too bad there was not a real Catholic presence on the American frontier at the time Joseph Smith was looking at Christianity so that he could have experienced Christianity in its fullness.

Zerinus,

I noticed you replied (?) to hosemonkey.

How about answering my questions? Thanks

Robert
Amen! Zerinus is here because the Lord has called his loving and seeking heart to search for the truth in its fulfillment, the true presence of Jesus Christ. Christ’s attraction was so powerful that working men left their fathers, government tax collectors and others dropped what they were doing and followed Him. And so, zerinus is on the way to the presence of Christ-to eat His Body and drink His Blood, and have life within him. As we all did, he argues and disputes along the way, but the Lord’s calling is too powerful and too true to resist.

As He did with me, the Lord will weaken his strength to resist, will weaken his will to follow other paths, and will draw him, like an electromagnet draws steel, to the source of all Goodness, Mercy and Light, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for his journey, as he loves Jesus, but does not yet know the fullness of Christ. When he does, there will be celebration in Heaven.

The Book of Mormon is evidence of the truth of the LDS Church.

The Book of Mormon is evidence of the truth of the LDS Church.

zerinus
And what evidence would that be?

When examined, the Book of Mormon is found to contain certain Scriptural quotations, and when these quotations are examined, they are found to be taken from the version of the King James Bible that was available in bookstores near to where Joseph Smith lived.

The “Angel Moroni” seems to have meticulously reproduced not only the theological errors contained in that translation, but also the spelling mistakes and other typographical errors contained in that particular print edition of the KJV Scriptures.

That seems like a really strange thing for an “Angel” to do, don’t you think? 🤷

zerinus, zerinus,

You are greatly mislead. There was no “Great Apostacy”. If you believe that, you call Christ a liar. Listen to Him: "And, so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).

In order to see the truth for the first time, delete the reference to Peter. Look at what remains. “the gates of hell will not prevail against it” He did not say that it would disappear then reappear centuries later. Christ’s Blood is the “New and Everlasting Covenant” These are not Catholic words, they are Christ’s.

Mormons are absolutely the most sincere, loving, caring and upright citizens on earth. But, they are MISLEAD! Come to the truth.

zerinus,

I thought it was called the Book of LDS?! Oh, you’re a MORMON? I would never have known, since you don’t use that name. What’s wrong with it?

The charge of dishonesty rebounds on you unless you are prepared to say how my “opinion” misrepresents “what is being represented”.

zerinus
Oh but I’ve already done that, by noting your own self-admission that your presentation of the contents of the statements is predicated upon “the historical context, evidence and circumstances surrounding it” . All of these things are indeed pertinent to the content of political statements, and perhaps, in certain cases, to the timing of a pronouncement by the Magisterium of the Church, but not to the content of those pronouncements.

I do hope that you didn’t think that, by pretending not to notice the earlier post, you would induce the rest of us to forget about it?

And by the way, your jig is long up. Many, many pages ago we figured out that your only reason for starting this thread is to dump on the Catholic faith, not to discuss anything. The whole premise of your assertions is transparent, and as silly as, say, the Bank of Bolivia telling the US Treasury it must honour the $100 bills Bolivia printed as if they were American currency. Which brings me, once again, to the likelihood that all of this is just a smokescreen for your own doubts on the matter.

Blessings,

Gerry

Poor zerinus and all those like him. He is hoping against hope, that what he believes in is true, in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. He is clicking his heels together furiously, saying that he wishes that he was in Kansas, but continues to be trapped in Oz. Zerinus, maybe Glinda can help you find the truth, you know, the Good Witch of the East. Or… maybe you need to take a hard look at the True Faith, the Catholic Faith. Then maybe all those flying monkeys will leave you alone.

Good thing Jim Jones didn’t found the Mormon church. This thread would never have existed. It’s too late for them. God’s Grace awaits zerinus when the scales fall.

When reason fails, and emotion flails, prayer endures.

Oh you can be certain that, when it comes to credibility, there’s nothing to choose between them.

Maybe according to your definition, but it surely isn’t the Church Jesus began because He said the gates of hell would not prevail against His church. Joe Smith was a con artist and a liar.
