Hi All,
This is my first post - I need advice. I have returned to the Catholic Church after 20 plus years, only to find that the pagans are teaching RCIA! The Sisters who are running the program tell me that “Christ never started any church!” And “EWTN is junk.”
Here were the topics at last week’s session:

God is really “Mother”, not the Father.
The celtic trinity was presented as a representation of the Holy Trinity (celtic trinity being the maiden, mother, crone, pictured with a snake and a raven no less!)
And the real kicker, Sister turns off the lights, turns on a floor lamp that directs the light at the ceiling (so we have a nice eerie glow), lights a candle on a table in the middle of our circle of catechumens, and we have “centering prayer.” It was my very first wiccan/satanic prayer experience
Am I over-reacting? What on earth has happened to the Catholic Church!?

The Greek Orthodox Church across town is looking very good to me right now…
Help!

ANd I could tell you more… but I won’t simply because it is best to either find another class or watch EWTN, Scott Hahn, Patrick Madrid, get the CC and find the truth.
It is sad but sometimes to become a good Catholic you need to go outside the box, and not stay inside with the liberals, just take the class if it is your only opportunity, pick your battles well so that you end up teaching many others the truth.
Many people come out of RCIA better Catholics simply from the people who search out and find the truth.
Also how is the priest? Was he there? I would bring a tape ecorder start taping and when you are finished send it to the diocese with a cc for Rome, and let them know that you found better teachings on Catholicism on television and from friends. etc.
Don’t give up we do have a very beautiful faith and it is unfortunate that there are people out there like this.
But in the end it could make you a better Catholic because you want the truth and are willing to search for the that.
Many of the teachers in RCIA were people who survived the garbage came out Catholic’s and went back in as helpers and taught the truth.

My recommendation is that you don’t walk, but RUN to the next nearest Catholic church, even if it is in the next town. If you have no choice, or it is no better, count it as a sacrifice and keep going. As long as you have access to orthodox sources, you can keep your oars in the water. I understand that is the route many orthodox priests had to take in recent years while suffering through liberal seminaries. They knew their time would come, and so will yours.

Get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and check everything you hear.

this woman hasn’t been Catholic for a long time, and as Christ said of those who lead others astray, it would be better for her to have a millstone tied around her neck and be thrown into the pit. You are learning, even if only negatively, that there is absolute Truth, and by comparing everything she says to the Catechism and bible you will get there in spite of her efforts to misdirect you. What she is doing is hostile, uncharitable and evil. Tape record the sessions, take notes, collect all her handouts, build a dossier for the bishop. He needs hard evidence before he can do anything.

We had a similar problem in a neighboring parish. The parish staff (almost 40 paid people) actually joined a union and filed a lawsuit when the new pastor fired everybody. It made national news.

As a practicing Catholic you have an OBLIGATION to report this abuse. And keep reporting it. And keep reporting it until some one takes notice. To do otherwise is to condon the actions of these “sisters”.

If you get EWTN, watch it for programs like the Catechism presented by Fr. Corapi. Not only will you learn somethings, but his confidence in the faith is going to rub off on you.

Thank you all for your replies. The priest was not there - he carries the parish on his own and relies on the three feminuns to take up the slack. He is liberal too, from what I can tell from his homilies (supports Kerry, etc., discourages any of us from striving for sainthood, that it’s more important to develop SELF ESTEEM blah blah blah). To be fair, I think the poor man is outnumbered and just trying to hang on day to day. The nearest orthodox parish is 2 hours away (my parish is in Myrtle Beach, SC).

Other things that bug me:
Resurrected Christ above the altar.
A small army of EM’s around the altar at communion.
Liturgical dance
ELECTRIC candles!

Sounds familiar. They are all abuses trying to become norms, and there are weak priests and bishops helping them along. I will include your priest and your bishop in an ever-growing number of clerics who need our prayers, our support (in their orthodoxy), and our criticism when necessary.

God bless you for recognizing these abuses and rejecting them.

Mr S

This is Not Good!
Wow, I know around here (area I live) people complain about it being too ‘liberal’ but its not like the parish described… :bigyikes:

I think the Bishop should be notified right away…

I think it sounds like you should find a new RCIA.

I would FOR SURE write the bishop. OF course he most likely already knows about it but you still have an obligation. I would also say something to the priest though as you said, he is rather liberal himself. I think it does our priests well to know that there are CAtholics out there who want real Catholicism.
2 hours is a large distance to drive but I don’t think I could tolerate what you are enduring at that parish.
Ask the Lord to guide you

Here’s what I would do, and the reason is because for “Anyone” (Sister or not) to turn out the lights, light a candle for a “Centering Prayer”. What the heck is a “centering prayer”??

That is not Catholic. It sounds like Wicca to me! What would I do?

I’d take my little video camera wrapped in a sweater for concealment. When things started to get spooky, I’d tape it, and make sure to tape the Sister…make sure your audio is working.

For a Sister to give a description of God as you have given makes me say…get the evidence, tell your priest what you did, ask him if he objects for you sending your tape to the Bishop. If the priest says ,“No”, send it anyway because you will be saving others from a weird ( maybe Pagan) indoctrination. Believe me, that is not Catholic.

My goodness, where are you, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles? If “yes” it’s time to move to Lincoln Nebraska!

Sorry, don’t mean to take this off-topic but why are “electric candles” and a “Resurrected Christ above the altar” considered ‘abuse’? Not disagreeing with you but just trying to understand because the church where my daughter was baptized in, the church where I was baptized in, the church where I was married in, the church where my parents were married in, now has “electric candles” and has had a “Resurrected Christ above the altar” for over a quarter of a century.

.
*Liturgical dance:crying: *
  • To be fair, I think the poor man is outnumbered and just trying to hang on day to day.:nope: he’s not outnumbered, he’s just liberal:eek:
    :whacky:
EWTN is junk*:rotfl: RUN! you need a solid devout (orthodox) RCIA experience.

From the GIRM:308. There is also to be a cross, with the figure of Christ crucified upon it, either on the altar or near it, where it is clearly visible to the assembled congregation. It is appropriate that such a cross, which calls to mind for the faithful the saving Passion of the Lord, remain near the altar even outside of liturgical celebrations.

As for electric candles, I’m a cradle Catholic, so I might just be an old fogey on this but, I don’t like the “fake but accurate.”😉
