Brideshead Revisited Evelyn Waugh
I keep borrowing that one from the library and not reading it, then having to return it.😊. I really do need to sit down and give it a fair shot.

Right now I’m reading Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chromosomes. Reductionist, but entertaining as far as pop science goes.

Copy Cap Murder by Jenn McKinley and tomorrow ill start Rediscover Lent by Matthew Kelly.

Usually I read the book and then don’t want to bother with the movie.
In this case, I’ve seen two versions of the book on film (not thrilled with the short version but really liked the television series (reviewed in contrast with Downton Abbey in The Atlantic link below) prior to opening the book.
I’d not read any Waugh since high school and decided to read the book based on my appreciation for the series which I watched on dvd a few months ago.
As the review notes, language is lifted straight from the book and the book is very closely paralleled.
I’m especially enjoying the book at present and hope you do as well. Sometimes a book needs to be aged properly, before reading.👍

Sounds like a lifetime reading plan! 👍

In Praise of Benedict, by Cardinal Basil Hume, OSB

I just started Kristin Lavransdatter. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. But it’s over 1000 pages so it’s gonna take me a while to get through. We’ll see if I can do it.

Apostle of Charity (About Fr. Nelson Baker) as well as Be a Man! by Fr. Larry Richards

Power of the Ring: The Spiritual Vision Behind the Lord of the Rings, by Stratford Caldecott. About to start Tolkien’s Unfinished Tales.

Together in Prayer: Learning to Love the Liturgy of the Hours, by Fr. Charles E. Miller, C.M.

Have you read Joseph Pearce’s works in that area? (Bilbo’s Journey; Tolkien: Man and Myth). He’s one of my very favorite Catholic authors because he takes literature so seriously. It warms the heart of a librarian like myself. 😃

At the moment I’m trying to determine my next read. Perhaps I should finish Eliot’s “Murder in the Cathedral”, or start on Pearce’s small is still beautiful: economics as if families mattered. I need something inspiring…I just came off a series of biology reads and found the reductionism a bit soul-deadening.
