Refugees detained at US airports after Trump exec order

CNN is reporting that one of the men, Darweesh (who worked for the US government for 10 years), has been released from immigration detention. “There is no word on whether he is free to go or if he is being released to get back on a plane.”

Hypothetically, if he was indeed released and is free to go, I wonder if CNN would report as such, or just continue to say “there is no word,” in order to propagate the sort of confusion and ignorance that is displayed in this thread.

Catholics have a choice:
Listen to your Pope or King Donald.
Choose this day whom you will serve.
What a ridiculous sentiment.

And until the questions are cleared up and the facts are determined, it is absurd to make judgment calls.

NEW: Officials confirm to @CNN Green Card holders from 7 countries impacted by EO will NOT be let back into the U.S. via @PamelaBrownCNN

I haven’t even seen the EO or a detailed analysis of it and these stories are flying around, all over the world. Has anyone seen it? I am not sure the media cares. They want the worse case scenario.

The media is doing its job.

When it hits you that this isn’t about security but islamohobia and vilification of brown people.
No it isn’t. There are plenty of security concerns related to taking in refugees from an active war zone.

@tparsi
I want to repeat: Green card holders were handcuffed, their social media was reviewed, and they were asked their views on Trump

If Chuck Norris is a member of AMPAS and therefore able to vote for the Oscars, perhaps he can consider voting for a fellow ARTIST who is now forbidden from coming to the U.S. to receive his Oscar for Best Foreign Film (should he win, which as of yesterday is pretty much guaranteed now):

What a shameful and embarrassing moment (thanks, Trump fans) – movie directors aren’t terrorists, and neither are State Department or Google employees.

I agree with you on that… My point was that even those who support a temporary bar on refugees (at all or from certain countries) ought to be able to acknowledge at minimum that it is cruel to bar those who were already in transit, already vetted and received visas (and one worked for the US government for 10 years), not to mention foreigners already legally residing in the US on green cards or other visas.
The US has every right to unilaterally revoke any privilege to travel or remain in the US. Whether it is cruel or not depends on the circumstances. It seems to me that any vetting that was done was not good enough due to a severely deficient system. Evidence for this is the number of people, or their children, who have been allowed to travel and stay in the US and who have committed terrorist acts. The Fort Hood shooter served for years in the military. So I don’t consider having worked for the government for years to be sufficient evidence someone is not a threat.

Trump’s order is also preventing permanent residents who are Green Card holders from entering the country. These are people who already live in the US but happened to be out of the country. Many of these people are married to US citizens. I read this morning that 185 employees of Google are unable to enter the country.
This is terrifying. This is horrible. This is a disgrace.

What if my wife, who is a green card holder, wants to go home to visit her elderly and ailing parents? Will she be denied entry when she returns? Will she be kept from her children?

I can’t believe this. This is not the United States I know.

God help us.
