Ohh… I have made it clear that not all Protestants and not all Catholics are converted and united to Christ. There are many apostate churches out there. Protestants is too broad of a term with many belief systems. There is a remnant chosen by grace found throughout redemptive history. The true body of Christ is neither Roman Catholic, nor Protestant. The true church is catholic. Your membership to a particular religious community does not save you.
Then why don’t you make it clear as to where the teaching of the Bible being the sole authority comes from?

Where do scriptures teach the body of Christ does not have to be one?

Your avoidance to address questions and comments only brings out more questions. It appears you are obfuscating purposely for some reason only you can answer.🤷

My friend, we should all get back to work. Please go get your EMT training. I have to work too…as you know I work with fire departments consisting of EMTs, Fire fighters, and paramedics like you. You have a very worthy career goal and profession! We can’t settle our differences in the flesh. God the Holy Spirit has to teach each one of us things that we do not know.

That is the most untrue statement ever posted on this forum site. All you have to do is follow the threads on this site to refute your claim.
You assume that we’d draw the same conclusions as you. And still refuse to answer the question about how you KNOW that you’re ABSOLUTELY right and thus we should consider your interpretation of such matters as what the Bible says, including the statement that only the “Bible” is inspired. If the Holy Spirit is really speaking to someone, Is the Holy Spirit limited to only speak what is also written about in the Bible? Is God limited now by his own book?

We know it is impossible for God to lie. I think you are starting to argue like a Mormon Christian. Roman Catholics and Protestants already agree on the Bible being God-breathed. I think you need to breath, take a break and have great reverence and fear that we hold the Word of God in our hands with the Holy Bible. It is THEE HOLY book of the Living God.

Reformed, you have been asked many great questions:) I encourage you, rather than shirking them off as it seems your’e trying to do, that you sincerely look into them. That you pray for God to give you answers.

We aren’t on these forums to 'find" truth, because as Catholics, we believe ALL truth, the fullness of the truth, exists within Christ’s one, true, holy, apostolic, Catholic Church.

When you find truth, you want to seek to UNDERSTAND it better…but you don’t have any need to keep “looking.”

Please…I know that we all have our own lives, professions, and gifts, but we have also been brought together to these forums for a purpose. It is not Reformed that brought you here to speak with Catholics, but God who has a purpose for all of our dialogue!

In his testimony, Scott Hahn had an amazing story to tell. After his “born again, saving” experience as a protestant, he set out to evangelize, much like you. He loved the scriptures and shared them joyfully! As we all should! And then he gave a young girl from his school a book. A terrible, decietful book, that he believed was true at the time. “Roman Catholicism” by Lorraine Boetenner. The girl read that book and thanked him for opening her eyes! She vowed never to go to a mass again, and to follow “the Bible alone!”

After that…he prayed thanks to God for using him to bring other to Christ. And he says in his book, “I prayed that God would use me, and that he would especially use me to help Catholics.”

🙂

If you disagree with a statement, it is up to you to provide support to your argument. You cannot make an accusation and then say, prove it’s not so.

We are in a single discussion at this point and Catholics are standing in agreement and speaking the same things to you. You are speaking in support of dissensions and division, yet lack to provide support for those comments.

So far your assertions that the Bible is the sole authority stand unsubstantiated. Your repeated avoidance of addressing the many questions and comments, speaks volumes. Surely you realize the damage it does to the validity of your argument.

Provide us with the scriptural support of your assertions so we may honestly debate the subject, or realize that Catholics will not take anything you say seriously.

I agree it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, if two people disagree about a Scripture passage, either:

a) they are both wrong
b) one is right and one is wrong

How do we determine the Truth!? Are we just left to hope the Holy Spirit is REALLY speaking to us? If we teach someone something that ISN’T from the Holy Spirit, we’d be leading people astray! Why are you so confident in your inerrant teachings on these forums regarding the Catholic Church?

Since God is love, then every new thing learned about Him is another reason for loving Him! Thats why theology, “increasing in the knowledge of God”-St. Paul, is thrilling and nutritious for your soul/faith.

Sorry Ashley,

I’ve already have been given about 8 or 9 Scott Hahn testimony tapes that I received about 10 years ago. I also received and read dozens of Catholic Answers tracks, and books by Hahn and Madrid. Testimonies don’t cut it sister, because I gave out books with testimonies from ex-Priests and ex-nuns in return…to nullify the human testimonies from Catholic Answers. The only way to come to grips of our differences is to go through Bible Studies together. I know you are avoiding a Bible Study like a plauge (IMO). 🤷

I love bibilical theology because good books on theology grows our love and affection for God. Here is a book that I would highly recommend. The author actually signed the first ECT 1 agreement; therefore I’ woudn’t run from it.

I haven’t been able to visit the forums as often as I like because of school, but we are over the halfway mark now, 6 more weeks to go. I have an “A” average night now and find it becoming easier to maintain, especially with the help of the younger classmates that have “adopted” the old guy. Everything is coming together with what they’ve been teaching us. I’m even looking into an internship so I can do extra clinicals. I really like this profession and look forward to becoming employed with my new skills once I graduate.

I don’t know if I told you or not, but it’s a two hour drive to school each day, one way. Everyday I’ve listened to Catholic apologetic tapes, going and coming. You may have heard of a lot of the speakers, Tim Staples, Scott Hahn, Steve Ray, Tim Grey, etc. etc. 90% of what I listen to are ex-Protestants that have converted to Catholicism. They share the Protestant perspective and the problems they found that led to their conversions. I feel like I’ve been taking two courses over the last 10 weeks. Whether you noticed it or not, I’ve been sharing alot of what I’ve learned as I find some time to start posting on the forums again. 😉

What is the ECT1 agreement?

That is why it’s not up to us to convince you of truth. It’s not up to reformed to “get testimonies and believe them…”

That is why God led my husband and I to the Catholic church exactly at the right point in our lives, as He deemed and willed.

“hearing testimonies” and “reading books” from one side or the other is never going to get you anywhere. You will only HEAR what God is telling you when you are willing to open your heart to truth.

Not to reformed theology, not to catholicism, not to ashleybelle or anyone else. But to open your heart to actually hear what God is telling all of us! To come home!

Have you seen “Bruce Almighty?” I love the scene where he is driving in his car, praying to God to just give him a sign! So he passes several stop signs. A light that says “STOP” and eventually a truck full of road signs that read “CAUTION” “STOP!” stacked and piled together. He keeps praying, and says “oh what’s THIS GUY doing???” And continues driving and passes the truck…then as he prays, he reaches down for his prayer beads and his car goes right off the road and he crashes.

God was telling him STOP! Listen! And it took a serious bump in the road to get it through to him.

That was me before I joined the church. So sure that I was seeking God the way He wanted me to! So sure that if I just prayed and studied the Bible I would grow in my relationship with Christ. So sure that anyone who told me otherwise was misled! So sure that I wouldn’t have seen the truth if God manifested in front of me and yelled it!

It’s amazing the veils we can pull over our own eyes in the name of “following truth.”

Part of Bible study, is to study all you can about the Bible. You have asserted that the Bible is the sole authority, yet you fail to share where that teaching comes from, or address our questions and comments about it…kind of like avoiding a plague or something. 😛

Let God be God. He leads men through many paths before they are found home in the Church.

I disagree here. God leads in mysterious ways. Millions are sincere in heart towards God and are not yet in the Catholic Church. Let God do the leading, we’ll just be faithful where we are and trust Him.

How can the Bible be the sole authority? It is only as inerrant as its interpreters; hence 30,000 different interpretations.

What is the pillar and ground of the truth?

who can answer?(not you Catholics)

You are right, I think that could have been worded better… We were only able to hear truth, when GOD decided to open our hearts to truth, and when God decided it was time to lift that old veil:)

I’m glad you are finding time to post again. I did miss your presence on this site. I’m really really surprised that the moderators still allow me to post. They are very charitable and gracious. Maybe many of them were ex-protestants, so they can allow me to participate without an over-reaction to ban me. I really don’t spend time reading apologetics material by either side on the issues anymore. I also try to participate on a religous forum site while I work.
