I’ll sign it and send it, but it’s a waste of time. The passage of Obamacare should have been enough to prove to everyone that neither Congress or Obama gives a rat’s hindquarters about what we want. We clearly told them in one town hall meeting after another that we didn’t want it, and they rammed it down our throats anyway. The only thing that will ever get the attention of these people, I’m sorry to say, is brute force: the people are simply going to have to take a stand and say, “No, we won’t. If you try to force us to, you’re going to have to fight us.”

But the people are afraid to do that right now. They’re still trying to hang on to what little they’ve got left and not endanger it—they don’t want to rock the boat and lose it. Unfortunately, they’re going to lose it anyway, because that’s what the gang in Washington wants, and it’s only going to be when the people have nothing left to lose that they’re finally going to be spurred enough to take action. By then, it will either be too late and we’ll be living under a police state, or it’ll be a much, much tougher fight to regain our liberties than it would be if we did something right now----because if we did, the gang in Washington would back down.

When the government lives in mortal fear of the people, you have liberty.

When the people live in mortal fear of the government, you have tyranny.
It is better than doing nothing. I believe the Bishops have asked Catholics to take action. USSCB website has a link to write too representatives to support conscience protection. Catholics have to make their voices heard, if the conscience protection bill gets through Congress that may wake Obama up.

Thank you for the education. Very interesting. I appreciate the time you took to post the links. At least now I know where these voting comments are coming from.

I once had someone in this forum accuse me of voting for Obama because we disagreed on something. It really is the ultimate insult these days.

I did not vote for Obama and I do attend Mass regularly. I guess I am few and far between. 😃

I am having difficulty with the Republican choice and feel it is critical to vote for the best candidate who will win against Obama. It is a sad state of affairs when the choice goes from chosing the least of the two evils to chosing the one who will beat the evil one. 😃

This is a play on words people I am not making any reference to the Real Evil (Devil or anti- christ) one. Please do not misconstrue my words.

I live in Florida. Help!

Call me paranoid but as a nurse case manager, I feel that given what the Obama administration has in mind for health care in terms in rationing, the Catholic hospitals have to be out of the way to put their evil agenda in place. Believe me I am no conspiracy theorist, just afraid for my daughter with chronic illness dependent on expensive infusions and my catastrophically injured clients who require extensive rehab which will no longer be the priority. Call me crazy, I hope to God I am!
This has been my fear as well. If they get rid of the Catholic hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, etc… then ‘they’ can take over and provide ‘healthcare’ to the less fortunate. And they called Sarah Palin a nutcase for talking about ‘Death Panels’!

Saint Michael the Archangel; Defend us in Battle!

With our votes and with our contributions. Nothing else will change Obama’s plan for the defeat of the Church in America.
Let the Catholic Church wake up to what the Obama administration is trying to do. This is nothing short of an attack on religious liberty. I heard that even liberal bishops are feeling betrayed by Obama - former archbishop of L.A. Mahoney is reportedly livid at what the Obama administration has done. I say, wake up Catholics of all political persuasions! Do not vote for this man who is forcing Catholic hospitals and charities to provide abortions and sterilization. Obama has gone too far this time. He won election by the votes of Catholics. May the Catholics wake up and act like the swing voters they are and help oust this man.

Democrat Catholics of these forums, tell me, in light of this news, how you can in good conscience vote for Obama for re-election.

Other churches ought to take very serious heed as well. The Catholic Church is far and away the largest single church in the U.S., is organized, and has a heirarchy that can speak with authority to its members (to the extent we listen). All other churches, including the second largest (the Southern Baptist Convention) are far more vulnerable. If this administration succeeds in its anti-Catholic agenda, the others have no chance at all.

Some of the people in other churches know that quite well. Some of them don’t.

Last night I nearly fainted in Mass.

The priest was VERY ANGRY about this issue and actually spoke Obama’s name during his homily. He told us not to be “wimpy Catholics,” that Jesus wasn’t wimpy and that we need to take action to stop this from happening to our nation.

There was very strong applause after the homily, and I was happy to participate. In the 20 years I’ve been attending another parish, NEVER did I hear as strong a statement in defense of our Church’s tenets (life from conception to natural death). In fact, on Roe v. Wade Sunday, Father might make a brief reference to it, about how sad it is, that it continues, but that’s the extent of it.

I’m glad a local priest has the courage to say what needs to be said. I hope the Catholics who voted for Obama are as horrified as they need to be, to realize what a bad decision they made.

My hat is off to your pastor. We need a lot more like him.

What I hope Catholics do not do is relax about Obama’s anti-Catholicism if he changes this regulatory order. He’s trying to do it by putting off its application to religious-based institutions, thinking everybody will go back to sleep. But if he feels like he has raised too much trouble for himself, he will modify it in some confusing way or even withdraw it.

Trouble is, you can’t temporize with evil. Once it shows itself plainly, you can’t compromise with it. The only remedy for Obama’s anti-Catholicism is to vote him out of office this year.

If he’s re-elected, the gloves will definitely come off and we’ll see a lot worse than we have seen so far.

Our priest discussed this in his homily today and there was a letter from our bishop in the bulletin describing just how this mandate is unfolding and how we must stand up against it. I also watched The World Over show on EWTN where it was being discussed. My husband and I went to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops website…there is a link there where all you have to do is fill in your name and address and it will generate an appropriate letter to your representatives (based on your address info). You have the option to write your own opening and closing if you wish. I would encourage everyone to do this as a first step.

I agree with those who think this is the first step of a government takeover of Catholic health care organizations. And I do believe it’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s time to stand up and be counted.

Here is the link on the USCCB website: nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=292
This does not go far enough. Obamacare must be destroyed in its entirety! I believe that the SCOTUS will find it unconstitutional but the effects of this horrible law have already started taking place, and we can’t afford ANY of it to continue to be implemented.

I may use their form, but urge them to do whatever is in their power to be sure that somehow, Obamacare is repealed or defunded.

I hope and pray that ObamaCare is found unconstitutional in the Supreme Court, or at minimum a religious conscious excemption that is put in, but if that does not happen it needs to be repealed by a new president in 2013. But Congress needs to hear Catholics respond in their disagreement with the lack of conscious protection, especially Democrats who make up the majority of the Senate.

Do you have any idea when/if the SCOTUS will hear a challenge to Obama-care? Some think the decision would have a far-ranging effect on the election.

I am pretty sure it is before them now, but I will have to look it up to be sure. 2 lower courts (at least) have already found it unconstitutional. There is really no doubt that it is, but the timing, as you say, could be critical. And there have already been detrimental effects (doctors and other health care professionals choosing to retire) that will be difficult to reverse.

Edited to clarify: It is the individual mandate that makes the law completely unconstitutional, because there is no way to excise that requirement, so if that is found unconstitutional by the SCOTUS, the whole thing will have to be scrapped.
