I’m telling you that Mitt Romney is NOT pro life.

I would actually go so far as to say that OBAMA is more pro life than Mitt Romney, because I believe he was sincere when he told the Pope that he wants to do whatever he can to reduce the number of abortions (the demand for abortions).

Mitt Romney? For all we know, he is still secretly committed to his promise to protect a woman’s right to choose that he made when he was running for office in Massachusetts.

Not to mention the fact that Mitt Romney isn’t even a Christian, so his concept of “pro-life” could mean any number of things. (he wants all babies to live forever on planet Kolob?) whatever.
It is not the action of somebody who is pro abortion to not sign any pro abortion bill that comes to their desk as governor. It took courage for Romney to stand up for his pro life convictions with an 87% democrat legislature and a majority democrat state. Sign Romney would be a great president, he has the experience of working bipartisan. He became governor when the state was in debt and by working bipartisan got a balanced budget. Obama could learn from Romney

well, i would say that this week of the republican convention has been a success.

the speakers were inspiring, their speeches were inspiring. it is the first time in 4 years i am beginning to feel hope again instead of despair! i have hope that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will be able to start fixing the economy and be able to create new jobs. they both seem confident. i have faith in them that they can get the job done!!!

i will be doing a lot of praying between now and the election. our country and the american people cannot afford another 4 years of Obama politics. i know he will be hitting the campaign trail hard because he wants another 4 years badly. but i pray that romney and ryan will excel in the debates and show what leadership is. :signofcross::gopray2::signofcross:

ok,

that is his opinion.

For me, it is a HUGE reason, because people ACT on their beliefs. I’m sorry, but I respectfully disagree with the Cardinal on that one.

I think he is saying that voting for or not voting for a candidate based on ONLY their religion is not appropriate, but I’m putting his religion with his actions in my assessment of him.

after what I’ve seen at the convention, I’m definitely NOT voting for Romney.

I’m sure he won over the Republicans (finally, LOL) well, not all of them.

Well, I used to be republican, then independent, but now specifically because of Romney and Ryan, I’m leaning towards voting for Obama as an anti-Romney vote.

I’m not alone. Trust me.

Many conservatives especially Evangelicals, cannot tolerate the thought of a Mormon President. They won’t vote for Obama, but they will certainly consider a third party. Hello “spoilers”. LOL

Listen, OK

If anyone thinks they are “more” pro life by voting for Mitt Romney, they are deceiving themselves!! That’s what I’ve been telling people but did they vote for Santorum? Well … not enough of them.

You can’t be a “little” pro life, or “mostly” pro life. You either ARE or you ARE NOT. PERIOD. “I AM!” 🙂 < but I might be pretentious in quoting Yahweh there.

oh, he masquerades as an angel of light, but do you know what this whole “health of the mother” really boils down to? “Boils” is part of it - and the rest is just as disgusting.

ABORTION ON DEMAND. yep. don’t let anyone deceive you. All they need to do is get a psychologist to write a note that says the pregnancy is endangering their mental health. That’s it.

That pretty much is anyone who wants an abortion. Halftime score: 100 %(though I didn’t catch the angel-of-light costume at the masquerade).

Don’t vote for someone who just pays lip service to a good cause. Look at their DEEDS, and their record on the issue. Of the ones we have LEFT? Are you trying to depress us? 😦

If you vote for Mitt Romney, do it because you like his hair, or you hate social security, but NOT because you think he is PRO LIFE. Hair does not compute. Have paid into SSI my whole life but am almost going to get some - the “hate” is fading. 😉 and I think his running mate is more pro-life than Mitt.

sorry for all the Caps. I’m just really mad. Abortion is horrible. You think you’re mad … the worst villians in the Bible were the baby killers like Pharoah and King Herod. They thought they had a “right to choose” too. And they did (free will). BAAAD CHOICES for THEM (too) as it turned out!

Peace
“Slee-ep in heavenly peace!” :hug3:

I didn’t like him implying the President of the United States of Amerca was saying “shut up” and whatever it was he was implying the President of the United States was telling Romney to do to himself. I thought that is what went too far and inappropriately crossed the line. Agree or disagree with the President’s policy. Like him or not. He is the President of all of us. But I understand obviously the base loves that kind of meat.
Clint Eastwood mocked Obama for going back on pledges that he made. Eastwood said he cried when Obama became president even though he is not a democrat. But people have had enough of the policies that are not working and Clint’s speech was a reaction: enough is enough

what?

In 2002, Romney said “I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose. I will not change any provisions of Massachusetts’ pro-choice laws.”

yeah, so courageous. LOL

In case you haven’t figured it out:

Mitt Romney will say anything to get elected.

whether or not he actually believes or does anything he says he is going to do is between him and God and is on public record as well.

He correctly figured out that if he just says “I’m pro life” he will automatically get the support of millions of people who pretty much vote on one issue, regardless of his record, his true beliefs, or whether or not he really plans on doing anything about it. He knows that they will blindly believe anything else he says because he is “pro life” and therefor has their complete loyalty.

When he was first elected Governor of Massachusetts, it was generally presumed that his position was “pro-choice.” However, about half way into his first term as governor in 2005, Romney announced that he was opposed to embryonic stem cell research and proceeded to veto a bill making the “Morning After,” plan B contraceptive pills available. In the same year, he declared that he was pro-life.
Governor Romney tells us that he changed his mind in November 2004. At that time, he was obviously searching and had questions. He met with Douglas A. Melton, PhD, a scientist from the Harvard Stem Cell Institute on November 9. In that interview the Governor said this researcher told him, “Look, you don’t have to think about this stem cell research as a moral issue because we kill the embryos after fourteen days.” This had a major impact on Romney and his chief of staff, as they saw it recognizing that such embryonic stem cell research in fact was killing what they were convinced were human lives already in existence. Later, through a spokesperson, Dr. Melton disputed that he used the word “kill.”
But Governor Romney, wanting to know more, consulted with one of the best people available in February 2005. This expert was William B. Hurlbut, a physician and professor at Stanford University Medical Center Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Hurlbut is a dedicated pro-lifer.
The two of them met for several hours, discussing the issue in great detail. They went through the dynamics of conception, embryonic development and repercussions of the various research and experimentation that has been going on aimed at exploring the first weeks after fertilization. At that point, Romney was under intense pressure to change a state law that, at the time, still protected human embryos from lethal stem cell research. Some of the pressure came from Harvard, his own alma-mater. After this in-depth consultation, Romney stated that he was pro-life.
Asked about their meeting by columnist Kathleen Parker, Dr. Hurlbut said, “Several things about our conversation still stand out strongly in my mind. First, he clearly recognized the significance of the issue, not just as a current controversy, but as a matter that would define the character of our culture way into the future. Second, it was obvious that he had put in a real effort to understand both the scientific prospects and the broader social implications. Finally, I was impressed by both his clarity of mind and sincerity of heart. He recognized that this was not a matter of purely abstract theory or merely pragmatic governance, but a crucial moment in how we are to regard nascent human life and the broader meaning of medicine in the service of life.”
Similar to my time with President H. W. Bush, Dr. Hurlbut presented Governor Romney with sound scientific and medical information. The Governor responded by changing his position to support the protection of innocent human life from the point of fertilization. He declared himself pro-life and has repeatedly done so since that time.

i think you are wrong. many evangelicals love our country and feel that Obama is for issues they are against - homosexuality, same sex marriage, abortion. evangelicals are suffering like everyone else and they realize that obama has had 4 years to try to make changes to help relieve the suffering of the american people and he has not. romney and ryan clearly want to help the american people. they know how much suffering we have endured through these tough economic times. they don’t want that. as romney said tonight. we deserve better.

How is he a “convert”? Does he not allow for abortion in the case of “rape, incest and health of the mother”.

That is ABORTION ON DEMAND. wake up.

We deserve better. Ok, I’ll agree with that. But NOT Mitt Romney. If you want better, vote for a Catholic Bishop, not a Mormon one.

You can do it. Write them in on the ballot. It’s a perfectly acceptable thing to do. I might write someone in.

BTW,

The Catholic Church is not “against homosexuality” as many evangelicals are. Read the catechism.

Someone simply defining them self as “homosexual” is NOT what the Church is against. Don’t jump on the bandwagon so quickly dear.

A president does not decide abortion law, they can sign pro life or pro abortion legislation and elect supreme court judges who support their abortion view. Obama has expanded abortion through the world through funding the UN population fund, which supports pa reframe or sterilisation that is involuntarily in China and coerced abortion, and the Mexico city policy. He has elected supreme court judges who oppose reversing roe vs wade. The next president will probably elect supreme court judges. If Obama is reelected he will get that choice and could push the reversal of roe vs wade for decades

Romney is committed to reversing roe vs wade. That is what the pro life movement has been fighting for nearly 40 years so his view on whether he is against all abortion or in cases of rape and incest is not the main factor. Romney has laid out his pro life agenda he would take as president to pro life advocate Pam Badgers
Dear Pam,
Thank you for contacting me about the important issue of abortion. I appreciate your interest in my campaign for president and would like to thank you for taking the time to share your views with me.
I am firmly pro-life. I believe that if abortion were limited to cases of rape, incest, and circumstances in which the mother’s life is in peril, we will have gone a long way to ending abortion in this country. I support the reversal of Roe v. Wade, because it is bad law and bad medicine. Roe was a misguided ruling that was a result of a small group of activist federal judges legislating from the bench.
I support the Hyde Amendment, which broadly bars the use of federal funds for abortions. And as president, I will end federal funding for abortion advocates like Planned Parenthood.
I will reinstate the Mexico City Policy to ensure that nongovernmental organizations that receive funding from America refrain from performing or promoting abortion services, as a method of family planning, in other countries. This includes ending American funding for any United Nations or other foreign assistance program that promotes or performs abortions on women around the world.
I will advocate for and support a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion.
And perhaps most importantly, I will only appoint judges who adhere to the Constitution and the laws as they are written, not as they want them to be written.
As Governor of Massachusetts, I fought to promote abstinence education in the classroom, vetoed legislation to provide emergency contraception without a prescription, and vetoed embryonic cloning legislation. I am proud to say that each time I was presented with legislation on life issues, I sided with life. I remain strongly dedicated to that position.
I am running for president because I believe in America and know that our best days are still ahead. I believe that the principles that made America the leader of the world today—freedom, opportunity, and free enterprise to name just a few—are the very principles that will keep America the leader of the world tomorrow. These last few years have not been the best of times. But while we’ve lost a few years, we have not lost our way.
Again, thank you for contacting me. I encourage you to visit my website at www.MittRomney.com for updated information on this and other issues that may be of interest to you. I look forward to hearing from you in the future, and earning your support.
Sincerely
Mitt Romney

Ana, I, too, have grave concerns about Mr. Romney. Not so much about his faith, but about his politics.

I agree that he is a chameleon.

Having said that, there is a moral imperative to get rid of the current illicit regime. I can see literally only one good thing that they’ve done in the past 3-1/2 years (I used to say two good things, but recent revelations about the demise of Obama bin Laden eliminated that as a “good thing” as well)

Bottom line is that unless you support the current regime, you need to ask yourself the question: when I vote this November (or October…depending upon how early voting goes for you), how can you vote most effectively to accomplish the goal of forcing Mr. Obama to take that one last helicopter ride to Andrews and take that one last plane flight back to Chicago?

You may not like the idea of voting for Mr. Romney. I know I sure don’t (I will have to take mass quantities of anti-nausea medicine in doing so). But I have to ask the question: how can my vote best help overthrow the current illicit regime? No matter how much I don’t trust the only realistic alternative, the bottom line is that the “only realistic alternative” might not be as bad. The “only realistic alternative” might actually govern a tad bit more conservative than the current illicit regime. Just maybe.

I know that we can’t survive “four more years.” And, unless you want “four more years,” you need to think about what best you can do to prevent “four more years” from happening. No matter how tightly you must hold your nose in order to do what you need to do.

Not a praise for the “only realistic alternative” to the next four years. Not even close. But we simply can’t handle four more years of what we have now. Much less what we will have once the pressure of staying viable for the next election is no longer a factor.

From the NY Times:Paul Backers Aided Disruption of Ryan’s Speech
The women’s antiwar group CodePink was behind the disruption of Representative Paul D. Ryan’s speech on Wednesday night, but it was in part a product of the Romney campaign’s continuing dispute with Ron Paul supporters.

“An angry Ron Paul person was like, here, take my pass,” said Laura Mills, the 21-year-old CodePink intern who was escorted out of the Tampa Bay Times Forum after interrupting Mr. Paul’s speech.

Ms. Mills and a more seasoned activist, Ann Wright, were just waiting for Mr. Ryan to say something about health care. When he did, they yelled, “Health care, not warfare” and “My body, my choice.” Ms. Mills unfurled a banner that read, “Vagina: Can’t Say It? Don’t Legislate It,” a reference to an abortion debate in Michigan when a female lawmaker was barred from speaking after referring to women’s genitals.
The left is so, so, so classy.

And from Business Insider:
Code Pink Protesters Just Interrupted Mitt Romney’s Convention Speech

A group of protesters from the women’s rights group Code Pink interrupted Mitt Romney’s speech at the Republican National Convention tonight.

That the protesters were able to obtain credentials to the convention — let alone one that enabled them to get so close to the stage — and that they were able to sneak in huge pink signs is actually a pretty incredible feat given the level of security at the Republican convention.

We couldn’t catch what the protesters were yelling over the chants of “U.S.A.,” so it’s likely the television audience couldn’t hear them either. Men in ties and security guards flocked to the protesters’ section within seconds and escorted the three people out, according to officials at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, where the convention is taking place.

See above comment.

Code pink are ridiculous. Dressing up in female genitalia costumes and dancing

They are hypocrites. They complain about government wanting to choose abortion and contraception for themselves but want government and individuals through ObamaTax to pay for it. Women are far more empowered through economic policies to be dependent from government, than to be a Julia, and to be told by people like Sandra Fluke and Cecile Richards, 2 DNC speakers, that they speak for women when they don’t
