A man who talks like this:

is not someone I want to see as President, and most definitely is not someone I want to represent the Catholic Faith to the country and the world. I agree with him on abortion, but that does not wash away all his dangerous flaws.

There are other pro-life candidates who don’t think it’s “wonderful” when men are killed in front of their children’s schools or blown up on the way to work.

Peace and God bless!
Rick Santorum blew that out of context. I doubt anyone that goes as in-line with Catholic teachings would say such a thing. If he meant it, than he’s obviously not what we need, but I do believe that he didn’t mean what he said exactly.

I don’t see any other way to interpret what he said, especially given his statements about bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities. I do not believe that Santorum is as in line with Catholic teaching as many here suppose, especially as regards Just War. He’s pro-life, certainly, but he’s most definitely a neo-con through and through, and has made statements that are perfectly in line with that political approach, but are completely out of line with Catholic teaching.

That is precisely why I don’t want to see him become President: he’s a poor representative of the Catholic Faith, and he’s likely to cause scandal and misinform people about our beliefs.

Peace and God bless!

P.S. Here’s an actual video of the statement. He not only makes it clear that he’s glad that these scientists are turning up dead, but he hopes that the U.S. is involved in it. This is NOT the man we need representing us to the world.

You both do understand that this is the Romney thread, right? 😛

The thread I originally started posting in “There is Hope against Romney” was not a Romney thread, but a Gingrich and Santorum thread. For whatever reason it got merged with the Mitt Romney thread and all context was lost.

Let me just say that I don’t generally criticize the moderation of these boards, but in the past few days I’ve noticed that threads are getting merged that don’t really seem to fit together, and a lot of context is being lost and conversations are getting crossed and destroyed. As a regular poster here I find it extremely frustrating. I understand the need to keep the forums tidy, but it’s seem to have been a bit haphazard lately. 😊

Peace and God bless!

update at 3 PM PST, 13 January. It’s Official Romney (and one other candidate) are on the Virginia ballot. Four are not. :hmmm:

The Judge did comment…

“The plaintiffs have waited too long to file, and the doctrine of laches bars their claim,” Gibney wrote.

So how many of you know the Doctrine Of Laches? Hint: it is not in the CCC:rolleyes:
Laches is a kind of estoppel of delay; that is, if a person waits too long to claim their rights to something, they may find those rights no longer exist.

Newt would never choose Santorum, and vice-versa. The way to go is to choose someone ideologically different, so that you reach both moderates and energize the party’s base.

And are people really saying that Gingrich is a good family values Catholic?
It didn’t work for moderate John McCain when he chose conservative Sarah Palin as his running mate. The conservatives did get excited for Sarah, but were not excited about McCain.

Indeed: I was anti-life in the past, now I am not. My past convictions carry no more weight than a photon. I go where the argument leads: I generally form opinions and convictions before I have adequate information - but no one ever has all of the information - and then revise those opinions and convictions, often many times, as I gain new knowledge.

It is the same to say, that a person was born a Muslim, or a Sikh, or a Hindu, and converted to Catholicism, that they’re not really, truly Christians, because they haven’t always been.

**The Truth About Bain and Jobs **

Job creation and destruction are both relentless. The small difference between the two is what we call prosperity.

But now Republicans are worried. To fault Mr. Romney for being involved with businesses that both grew and shrank, that created jobs and destroyed them, may be to fault him for having eaten from the tree of knowledge in a way that, say, President Obama has not. But how will his story fare in November against Mr. Obama’s simpler story, in which ravenous capitalists destroy jobs and government creates them with things like the Detroit/UAW bailout, solar subsidies and health-care mandates?

Mr. Romney would be a fool to believe a political campaign is the right place to explain the private-equity business. But he has a perfectly defensible story to tell.

First, the money: He expected to be paid well. But nobody—not even those whose billions earned in private equity make Mr. Romney’s millions look paltry—envisioned the astounding rise in business values in the gilded '80s and '90s. When Mr. Romney was asked by his boss to start Bain Capital in 1983, the Dow was at 1086.50. When he left on Feb. 11, 1999 to run the Olympics, it was 9363.46. His is not the only recent fortune owed partly to this accident of timing (Warren Buffett’s and many others come to mind). Indeed, if we’re being honest, Mitt here is representative of a generation of professionals whose serendipity it was to have spent the 1970s on our education and then to be spit into the job market just as one of history’s great economic liftoffs was taking place.

Second, the work: He put his talent for calm, careful analysis to work helping American businesses adapt to the onrushing challenges of globalization and technological change. Looking back, it may even be true that his ratio of jobs created to jobs destroyed was better than the economy’s as a whole.

What does this have to do with the presidency? Perhaps not much, but one thing he didn’t learn at Bain Capital was to twiddle his thumbs because taking action might make somebody mad at him. That’s not the worst qualification to bring to the Oval Office right now.

There is a Presidential Forum on Fox News, Huckabee at 8 ET. The last Presidential Forum was highly credited.

I respect our moderators, but I don’t feel comfortable with these thread mergers either. Maybe the political threads were cluttering the board, but I wouldn’t mind it. It’s a political time after all.

“I’m Mary Ann Glendon and I am a founding member of Women Affirming Life and I have been active in the pro-life movement in Massachusetts and nationally for three decades,” she says in the video. “The pro-life movement is all about changing hearts and minds and it struck me as very unfortunate that Mitt Romney has been criticized by some people for coming to a pro-life position on the basis of information. That’s what the pro-life movement is all about.”

“Governor Romney showed great political courage and expended much of his political capital in supporting pro-life measures when he was here in Massachusetts. It was a very difficult political environment. 85 percent of the state legislature is Democrat controlled,” Glendon continues.

Glendon talks about the two vetoes Romney issued that particularly please her and pro-life advocates in Massachusetts.

“Governor Romney in that environment vetoed legislation that would have permitted destructive embryonic research; he vetoed legislation that would have permitted the over the counter sale of the morning after pill; he supported abstinence education in the schools,” she said.

The video features text saying “Vetoed – Embryonic-Destructive Research” — referring to the 2005 veto of a bill that would have allowed the cloning of human embryos for research.

“Gov. Mitt Romney vetoed a bill Friday to expand stem cell experiments in Massachusetts because it would allow the cloning of human embryos – a practice he has called morally wrong,” the Associated Press reported at the time. “But he has urged lawmakers to ban cloning, because extracting the stem cells destroys the embryos. He has said that amounts to creating human life only to destroy it.”

Romney wrote in a veto letter then, “It is wrong to allow science to take an assembly line approach to the production of human embryos, the creation of which will be rooted in experimentation and destruction.”

Next, the video features text saying “Vetoed – Morning After Pill Over The Counter” — referring to the July 2005 veto of legislation that would have allowed over the counter sales of the morning after pill, which can possibly cause an abortion in some cases.

Finally, the video features the words “Supported Abstinence Education” — referring to an April 2006 announcement that his administration funded new abstinence education programs.

Glendon closes the video saying, “Governor Romney was a great friend to the pro-life movement in Massachusetts. In a very difficult political environment, when many doors of the State House were closed to us, we always were welcomed by Governor Romney and his staff. He was a great pro-life governor and he will be a great pro-life president.”

I don’t know a lot about Romney, but I’ve googled about how pro-life Romney is, and I found out (from where I looked–don’t remember now) he overruled his own veto (if that is even possible 🤷).

Doesn’t sound possible…googling something doesn’t always yield factual data.

Quelle horreur! Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney has been skewered in a new political attack ad - for speaking French.

The ad, released by rival Newt Gingrich, seeks to draw unflattering parallels between Mr Romney and another Massachusetts politician, John Kerry.

Entitled The French Connection, it features a clip of Mr Romney talking in French when he ran the Winter Olympics.

The Republicans are vying to challenge President Obama in November’s election.

Correspondents say the highlighting of Mr Romney’s alleged French-language skills is an attempt to portray him as an elitist, European-style liberal wimp.

One hidden reason that the Bain Capital issue is brought up could be that it might be an indirect warning of the ’ vain capital ’ - which is what we could call vain human imaginations that make ‘promises’ or rather blasphemies about being gods on a par with God !

Even Huntsman dropping out , while sounds decent etc : one has to wonder how much of that too has been orchestrated , by powers that are beyond our awareness or even their own awarenesses and may be also not to make any undue suspicions , on the system that is producing two candidates !

May be the public need not look that far back ,to see that that is part of the effort to fulfill Patriarchal expectaion , from times of Joseph Smith !

Do we need to take in also what may be a prophectic name -'Salt Lake City ’ - the other Lake of salt that we would know , is the Dead Sea and its connections to Sodom, Gomorrah .

While we are dealing with great sinfulness in the world, trusting in The Light of a Holy , all powerful God , who has loved us , as God and Father from all eternity has been there esp. in our nation - is that what is to be compromised , by our ignoring the values that would define us at the deepest !

'Presumption is like idolatry ’ we are told !

Are we asked to set side our trust in the true God , by choosing for someone and for the system he would want to help to see implemented , since we know such is the basic pattern and identity that has been revealed to us , from the origin of the system !

The brief history of actions in Massachusetts may not tell us much here either - since , if the aim of the system has always been control at the Presidential level, then there would have been careful steps, to put forth the best face that would serve such a goal !

The term of ’ Vulture Capitalist ’ too , while possibly very relevat at many levels , we can wonder if it has also deeper meanings - mormonism has the history of targetting certain groups , for conversions , with vain , misleading ideas , leaving them at times loosing all faith, not even able to make the needed Uturn !

The generally aggressive mentality in ’ Vulture Capitalism ’ too - does it contribute to the break up of famllies , ever expected to work more hours etc , competing with inhuman conditions , of ungoldy systems , such as of China !

One reason we might be seeing the media siding up with the money could be , the extent of media advertising dollars and such , from Mormon related businesses !

One has to wonder if the money money only based system has contributed to any inhuman sort of competitivenss that might have come into the whole finance system too !

Even Democrtas could have their strategies well aligned, by planning to bring to public focus some of the above basic issues to such an extent , that many who now choose for the candidate could shy away in the end , wanting to have nothing to do with either , other than ofcourse prayers and hoping , in The Lord’s mercy !
