Because he had a consistent pro life record as governor. I think it is very unlikely he will change.
Yes, but being “pro-life” by Massachusetts standards may not be the same as, for example, being “pro-life” by Texan standards.

One politician isn’t going to change the ideology of his constituents. If the majority in their district or state are pro-choice, it would take quite a person who would even run on an “overturn Roe vs Wade” campaign in that district.

He has a record as governor of being pro life from 2003 - 2007. That shows sincerity.

Again, it depends on your measure of “pro-life.” Did he enforce any abortion restrictions? Last I checked they were still doing abortions in Massachusetts. Just saying.

Shame on you. Ugly partisanship is poisoning politics and killing our nation. Working with the other party is necessary, or nothing will get done.

If it is true that “the Democrats have pledged to work against any Republican president,” then shame on them. Why does that justify sinking to their level?

What garbage. The polls say otherwise. Wake up from your far-right fantasy world so that we can beat Obama.

Actually, I liked McCain. Not on everything, but it was nice to find an economic moderate who was pro-life (except on stem cells… but other than that), anti-torture, and in favor of immigration reform. And even if you didn’t like his politics, how you can call him a “weak character candidate” is beyond me… after everything he suffered in service of our country.

I know. As a presidential candidate, he’s revolting. If he’s the nominee, I will vote third-party.

Exactly. Well said.

Yes, Ron Paul will be getting my vote in the primary, too (my state goes in March, though). I know he won’t win, though.

So then in the general election, I will - hopefully - vote for Romney. If Gingrich is the nominee… I’m voting third-party.
History tells us that a third party vote goes for naught and in this case, it helps Obama just as it helped Clinton.

Exactly. I would vote for Romney, Gingrich or Paul. None of them are perfect, but they are all preferable to Obama. I voted Perot and helped Clinton take office. I won’t make the same mistake again.

Don’t let the perfect become the enemy of the good.

I’ve read many of those. Remarkably, I’ve been able to come to a different conclusion than determining that Ron Paul is my political savior and the only choice to escape the “establishment” bogeyman. _Abyssinia and many other thoughtful people have done the same. We aren’t ignorant, nor naive.
I have no intentions of offending anyone when I say its naive to believe everything Romney says, at least not in the same sense as those who use other words and empty rhetoric against Ron Paul. There is a reason that every political pundit in the world points out that Romney is a habitual flip flopper, not just for information, but as a warning.

I use to think a central tenant of conservatism was to be leary of any politician regardless of party affiliation. When I say it’s naive to believe everything the man says, I half expect most conservatives to agree.

There is a reason the man has a video on YouTube titles, liberal mitts greatest hits.

Also, if you don’t believe there is a republican establishment, then I don’t know what to tell you other than follow the money. I thought that was common knowledge as well. Romneys just as much in bed as Obama is with some pretty shady customers, moreso than any other candidate.

I disagree with you, and you misquoted yourself. 😛
If abortion were the only issued I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. But to believe a word he says would be extremely naive.
As a conservative, I don’t believe “everything” a politician says, but to say people are “extremely naive” to believe anything a given politician says is extreme.

Many of my friends voted for Ross Perot … “to send them a message” … and what they got was their worst nightmare … Bill Clinton.

Since I don’t believe “nothing” will get done, only very little, I am a big fan of gridlock. The less the federal government does, the better.

OK, so an anti-anti-Obama vote will assure Obama’s victory … and thus shape the United States as mega-Socialist one-party police state. Is that what third-party voters had in mind?
If you have to make up words like “anti-anti-Obama” your argument is weak. In this case it just begs the question of whether a third party vote is a vote for Obama. There are some Republican candidates (one in particular) I do not think I will vote for. In that case, a vote for a third party is a vote taken from the Obama column (as well as the Republican column).

Code:
I don't know what a President Romney plans to do on day 1, but a President Gingrich is planning to sign 200 executive orders a few hours after being inaugurated, so **"Before Obama's plane returns him to Chicago or Hawaii, something like 30-40% of everything Obama worked on in the past 4 years will have been dismantled."- Newt Gingrich**
This is what I like about Newt, and what concerns me about Romney. Newt, for all his weaknesses (and there are many) still tells it like it is and isn’t afraid to call Obama a socialist. Newt is perhaps the only candidate who could effectively explain to America why Obama is a socialist. Let us hope that what Gingrich predicts comes to fruition.

I’m not going to disagree with you but how do you know he won’t compromise his position in the future?
You don’t. But its a risk worth taking. He is a politician - f he reneged and nominated a moderate Supreme court justice he would never get re-elected. And trust me, he would want to get re-elected.
If abortion were the only issued I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. But to believe a word he says would be extremely naive.
bbarick, wha happened? You used to criticize liberals who said in defense of their votes for Democrats that “abortion isn’t the only issue.” Like I said, he is at worst a politician who isn’t a committed pro-lifer. He would still give us good justices. At best he is sincere, in which case he would still give us good justices. The other issues matter too - getting the economy back on track, keeping our defenses strong, etc. But they pale incomparison to the issue of the sanctity of life.

That sums it up for me. You guys are spot on.

I’m with you on that. This government was built on the Roman checks and balance principle. That said, we should dissolve the Fed and make the Constitution easier to amend. SCOTUS has too much power, IMO.

You all really need to read on the Warren Court…no president can control a justice once appointed…they are there for life.

I meant if abortion were the only issue he has flip flopped on.

Romney use to believe everything Obama does.

Bain Capital, Raytheon, Goldman Sachs, Obama, Romney…all connected.
Roemer’s video also explains that a mysterious company was formed, donated $1 million to one of Romney’s Super PACs and then dissolved itself within a matter of months.
rawstory.com/rs/2011/12/05/buddy-roemer-highlights-romneys-flip-flop-on-campaign-finance-reform/

Now, I generally don’t go around googling the candidate and believing everything I read. But if the candidates got a drastic flip flopping history on as many issues as Romney, my spidey senses start going crazy.

Fair point but nominating SCOTUS justices is another matter. You don’t know how they will turn out. After all, it was Nixon’s SCOTUS which made Roe-Wade the law of the land. And even Bush, the supposedly pro-life president, nominated “moderate” Harriet Miers, who fortunately later withdrew her name for consideration. Whereas JFK nominated one of the dissenters of the Roe-Wade decision. But Nixon’s court did the damage. Then one doesn’t know if the movement would have had any impetus had Reagan not signed the pro-abortion bill while he was governor of California in 1967.
