I stopped reading Doonesbury long ago. It’s something that should be on the editorial page, not in the comics.

Is it reasonable to find something funny without actually agreeing with it?

I hope people do find it to be funny. Its the people that take it seriously and actually think that is how Santorum thinks that are the problem. I’ve seen much worse and I don’t think this particular cartoon is worth getting upset about unless people truly do take it seriously.

It is, by definition, a one-liner. It only has one line. šŸ˜›

Only time will tell if it becomes cliche or not. ā€œMake love, not war!ā€ ā€œYou can’t hug your children with nuclear arms.ā€
Or my favorite" Nuke the Whales"

Doonesbury Comic Strip Attacks Santorum’s Pro-Life Views

Washington, DC – The Doonesbury comic strip by American cartoonist Garry Trudeau is known for tackling political subjects with its content in an irreverent and humorous fashion. The comic strip is known for a range of political opinions but it typically comes down for a liberal viewpoint.
And I DO appreciate that I live in a country like ours, where comics like this are NOT censored. šŸ‘

BTW, I hope you noticed that the fourth panel, with the punchline, was set up with a couple of satirical comments in panels 2 and 3? šŸ™‚

And now for some GOOD NEWS! Liberals have been upset for over 15 years by…

As long as you feel guilty about it afterwards and take it to Confession. šŸ˜›

I don’t quite get Paul’s ā€œresponseā€, though. 🤷

This doesn’t exactly rank high on my list of offensive cartoons. I guess if it was a slow news day and I was looking to get offended, this would have to do.

Yeah, it was apparent to me rather early on that Doonesbury was nothing more than a wheel where an unfortunate man grinds his axes - and I was something of a political wonk from middle-school onward.

The correct answer to the last question as ā€œabortions,ā€ btw, though the judges would also have accepted ā€œliberals,ā€ upon further review.

Was interesting to hear how Mrs .Gingrich plays the french horn in the choir - good to know how talented she is in other areas too , even like a reminder , from
biblical history , how Bathsheba was the queen mother , in spite of all that transpired ,

That french horn might be a tip off too , to not loose sight of the French connection of Romney , so that even if the mittens appear shiny and bright at moments , to not loose guard as to at whose neck the hand could be aiming at , even if indirectly …

Voting for Romney might seem to make sense for worldy appeal , due to media push - many of whom possibly infected with the triple virus of greed for money, power and lust - values of the system they thus indirectly support , !

Hope Gingrich would find common grounds to work well with Ron Paul …

Santorum too can choose such a path , both being Catholics , hopefully are used to being tended onto better , higher grounds …and thus , to usher in an era of good solid govt where wisdom from on high would accomplish much, to make persons see each other and nations with eyes of mercy and truth and with reverence for God !

Not too late for such an outcome yet …to usher in the peace of Solomon’s times , without the attendant faults which seem to be getting atoned for , by the media scourgings !

Good to see that you are a prayer warrior and thank you for the kind words !

Need to mention how Mrs Romney is in need of prayers - suffering with mutiple sclerosis

and breast cancer ; not aware of details from the media .

May the good Lord , through the Motherly tender love , bring healing to them , in all needed areas and many others like them !

Peace !

It’s always nice when new clichĆ©s are developed. They make great campaign placards and bumper stickers, which is what campaigning is all about. Who needs substance, when you can just throw out clever one-liners?
The Catholic positition is pro-life from the cradle to the grave. That is remarkably parallel to the position you call ā€œclicheā€. I question the logic that there can be such a thing as a new cliche. So if you wish to add substance, instead of belittling the position, would you care to elaborate? Are adult humans of less value than prenatal humans?

I was talking about a phrase becoming a cliche. I’m sorry if you didn’t understand that. I can’t help you in the comprehension department.

I’ve never claimed or implied that adult humans are of less value than prenatal humans, so I have no idea why you are asking me such a thing. I am pro-life from cradle to the grave. If you wish to add substance, feel free. In this post, you did not.

Do candidates win primaries because the media says they’re going to win them?

I mean, Rick Santorum barely won. It makes you wonder, what if the media didn’t predict he’d win (in order to stem the perceived loss of Romney). Romney and the media were bactracking before the vote to downplay a 2nd place finish. If they predicted a narrow win… I bed he would’ve won.

New Hampshire. I’m sure New Hampshire would’ve been more competitive if the media didn’t basically propagate the assertion that ā€œIt’ll be really something if Romney wins by less than 10 points… that will be a loss for himā€. Ok, so he was ahead by 20 odd points. He was also ahead by 18 points in SC… what was the difference?

The last 2-3 days the media all said Gingrich would win. Gingrich ended up winning.

And in Florida… it looks like no breaking developments will happen since the 2 debates passed in a boring and unremarkable fashion… now the media will say Romney will win. They will say that from around Jan 24th or 25th all the way to Jan 31st.

So, what do y’all think? Do you think most people are just so ALOOF that they can just be swayed by the media elites? Because, when the only reason people vote for Romney is that he’s electable… I agree with Rush Limbaugh who says electability is complete nonsense.

You are the most electable if the most people vote for you. The most people could vote for anyone. Theoretically, the people could rally around anyone and elect them. But, I would suggest that rather than people rallying themselves, it is the media that rallies the people.

Lastly, I would posit that not only does the media rally people on politics. But, also social issues. I think many Americans would not accept actively gay people at all if it weren’t for the homosexual agenda being advanced in Hollywood, by every latenite comedian, by every woman host on air (Oprah, Elen, and all of them).

So, does the media merely predict what people do on their own accord? Or, do people buy into narratives made by the media, accept them as reality… and then make them happen.
[If the media didn’t say Romney was the most electable for over a year, would most people think he was?]

I should correct that, as I just parroted your incorrect statement. I am pro-life from conception to the grave, as the Church teaches. ā€œCradle to the graveā€ is usually used by Socialists to describe the sort of welfare they support. šŸ˜‰
