We’ve been down that road before. We cut taxes on the supposedly wealthy job creators. They were called the Bush tax cuts. And we saw the result. Jobs weren’t created. Why anyone would want to go back to the failed Republican policies of the Bush Administration that got us into the mess in the first place is beyond me. 🤷 .
Profit, more money in their pockets.

You know how they cry out “I’ts MY MONEY!!” Reminds me of Gollum. . . “MY PRECIOUSSSSS!!!”

The Church, despite what you will surely state, provides no opinion or preference of the Rightist economic model of US politics.
Then how do you reconcile the concept of subsidiarity with such things as the welfare state, socialism and communism?

Republican politics are so depressing!, I just check in once in a while to see if any of you have yet seen the light.
Robert i just must say though ,what a pitiful pair you are going to have to end up choosing ! and I can see that you have no one to blame but Ringil ,Matt and the like, and of course the the big bad socialist Media.
They are always a good target to go after when you can’t bring yourselves to place criticism where it actually belongs.:p:)Peace, Carlan
Hi Carlan, wow tying Ringil and I to the media would get us applause at a Republican debate! 😃

There’s no need to reconcile as there is no conflict. Not every need or right can be met on the local level, as is demonstrated in the US, hence the state can and should provide for these. That is consistent with Social Teaching and in accordance with the US Bishops as demonstrated in numerous statements. When our Bishops make such statements (i.e. on Immigration, ending the Death Penalty, not cutting welfare) Catholic Rightists moan and say “they need to shut up and stop talking about things they don’t understand.” And yet the applause resounds when our Bishops make statements that the Right deems are consistent (i.e. on Abortion, and Gay Marriage) with their views. It’s hypocritical.

You are simply incorrectly interpreting Subsidiarity and attempting to hammer the square peg of GOP politik into the round hole of Catholic Social Teaching.

The Church neither endorses or opposed either parties apporach to solving the economic problems facing the country. There is absolutely NOTHING in the GOP party platform or in the stances of any of the republican canidates for President that runs contray to Church teaching-social or otherwise. The same can not be said for the Democrat party or the current President.

“In the last three months of 2011, Mr. Romney and the Republican National Committee raised $93.4 million, while Mr. Obama and the Democratic National Committee brought in $68 million, according to an analysis of campaign-finance reports released late Tuesday. For all of 2011, the RNC and the Republican presidential field raised nearly as much money as Mr. Obama and the DNC—$225 million for Republicans vs. $229 million for Democrats.” - WSJ

Three reasons why Democrats are WRONG to be optimistic about their chances

“In short, there’s a new Congressional Budget Office report that shows unemployment likely to climb to nearly 9 percent by the election, there’s polling data showing Obama tied or trailing Mitt Romney in the most important swing states (and doing only marginally better against Ron Paul), and there is mounting evidence that the assumption of a decisive Obama fundraising advantage for the fall might be flat wrong.” - Politico

** Karl Rove: Romney is tilted too heavily toward biography and not nearly enough toward policy**

“Mr. Romney showed he knows how to take an opponent down; now he needs to show the ability to build himself and the rationale for his candidacy up. He should become bolder in his prescriptions, presenting a confident agenda for economic growth and renewed prosperity through reforms of tax, regulatory and energy policies.” - Karl Rove in the Wall Street Journal

Veep choice very important for Romney to keep GOP together

“Romney will “very quickly need to focus on picking a conservative vice president,” says Gary Marx, who ran Romney’s conservative coalitions outreach effort in 2008. “Ultimately John McCain was able to get more evangelicals turning out and voting for him in ’08 than even Bush did in ’04,” recalls Marx. “So he was able to mend fences due in large part to that vice presidential choice.”” - Daily Caller

And finally… Yates Walker is angry at those who say some candidates are "unelectable"

“Our country wasn’t founded and built by mealy-mouths and second-guessers. America was founded by ***-kickers, men and women who took hard stands, come hell or high water. That’s the type of candidate we want, the type they call “unelectable.” And here’s the kicker: the last one we nominated won 49 states and was re-elected in 1984. If conservatives can learn anything from Barack Obama, it’s this: Anyone is electable.” - Yates Walker for the Daily Caller

AND, if you get burned with an investment that goes sour, you can now only deduct $3000 of your losses per year. Which is ridiculous. Read up on it.
This is true. However, there is a carryover provision for the following years.

What if the Santorum forces merged with the Paul forces, announce as President-VP in the primaries. Can they do that?
They can, but Ron Paul has made it clear that Santorum is a big government, miltary interventionist Republican, so I don’t think Pau would want to be his VP.

They are only “targets” when the shamefully choose to misrepresent someone as not caring about the poor, when that clearly isn’t what the person said.

Besides, at least Republicans have a choice. Catholic Democrats only have Obama as an option. I’m sure many of them will support him though, despite his opposition to the Church.

Is there a government post to which Romney would be seriously willing to appoint Dr. Paul? I’m sure it wouldn’t be VP, but there are interesting possibilities–maybe also for Rand.

Hey, it’s the Right’s favorite Bible quote!! 👍

I really have to thank CAF for tuning me in to what the Right really think but don’t always say in the public arena. 🙂
So you oppose the Bible?

Actually I prefer the one where St. Paul says let him who will not work, not eat. As to the poor, no where are we excused from charity towards. them The verse that was quoted merely stated a fact. From it, we know that there is other good than helping the poor. It must* never* be an excuse to not help the poor. On that, I agree with you.

I don’t think Romney would choose Ron Paul for Vp if he is the nominee, there may be place for Ron Paul or Rand Paul in the administration though.
