Paul, well he has this crazy idea that we just eat right and exercise. But of course, the majority of the country thinks that is just plain nutty, requires too much work on their behalf I guess.

🤷
Most of what people call nutty about Dr. Paul is common sense to the rest of us. Things like you can’t get something for nothing, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones (or bombs), a balanced budget is fiscally responsible while maxing out your credit cards is fiscally irresponsible, everyone should chip in something, say what you mean and mean what you say, etc. If we lived private lives to mirror the politicians we support most of us would be in ruins.

This is the way I look at it:

This country is severely obese, figuratively speaking, and we have a few guys offering solutions to lose weight.

Obama has this idea that we can lose weight by eating more…

Romney, Santorum and Newt has the idea that there is a quick fix, each one of them a bit different. One wants to ingest an over the counter pill, the other wants to have surgery and Newt, well he has a pretty good idea to just start eating better but it will never happen because every time he turns around there is a holiday or buffet that he just can’t resist.

Paul, well he has this crazy idea that we just eat right and exercise. But of course, the majority of the country thinks that is just plain nutty, requires too much work on their behalf I guess.

🤷
That about sums it up. Apparently common sense is too “extreme” for most Republicans. 🤷

You’re right at that. It’s not that other Republicans don’t have good ideas, it’s just that expressing them seems to be political suicide. If they aren’t outvoted by the Democrats they are dissed by their own party.

If you study Paul Ryan’s plan, it had the ‘edible’ combination of focusing on the problem while not putting the patient on a complete fast. Paul Ryan can explain very complex economics and make it understandable. What did he get for his courageous effort to address our spending and debt problem? Dems ran an ad with him throwing granny off a cliff (although his plan did not have any impact on current seniors so as usual they lied). Even Republicans distanced themselves, Gingrich calling it “right wing social engineering.”

I think you have to face reality that people do not want strong medicine. If people really wanted to address our overspending they would have followed Ron Paul’s theories long ago. This is the world we live in. I work in the medical field. My doctors treat a condition that is about 75% the result of a bad lifestyle. I walk down the halls in the hospital. I would venture to guess that 75% of the people walking around (and they aren’t patients…YET) are overweight. They look like exercise consists of walking around their homes and spend a lot of their food dollars at McDonalds. Do I think these people are unaware of what their practices are doing to their health? No. But they won’t do anything seriously about their health…until it’s too late. I fear the same for America. Can I say Greece?

That being said, Paul cannot get anything done. Sorry but that’s the reality. He’s had decades in Congress and as everyone says, he’s been singin’ the same song. No one is listening.

Will they listen to Romney or Gingrich? Maybe. That’s my hope

So what you are saying is that America is much more willing to follow the plan of one of the Republicans who will get nothing done about the fiscal problems we’re facing? And I get mocked for saying that this country is doomed.

I wasn’t speaking for all Americans, you seem to have a desire to interject into my statements your own eroneos ideas.

My statement is how American voters will view Santorum’s harsh crticism of JFK’s speech, they won’t like it and the evidence of this is all over the net and news.

Jim
Hahahaha. I’m not speaking of all Americans…this is how American voters will view… 😃

You are definitely good for a morning chuckle. Thanks. 👍

As I said, we don’t know if Romney or Gingrich would be more effective than Paul but he will be MORE effective than Obama in dealing with fiscal problems. Further a Republican President, unlike Obama, will not veto the repeal of Obamacare or the Financial “Reform” sent to us by Frank and Dodd. So with a Republican President we have a double whammy in having both the executive branch and at least one house of Congress on the same page.

I do not think our country is doomed. I think it will be a hard slog and we need to do what we can instead of throwing up our hands and hanging crepe all around. That will solve NOTHING. We still live in the greatest country in the world with a living standard and freedom that is the envy of the world. You can walk around on your bottom lip if you wish but I don’t think it makes for an enjoyable life. Your choice.

Ron Paul knew a long time ago that he would not be very effective legislatively. Mises knew this as well, it’s not hard to figure out that honest people in Washingtom who refuse congressional benefits and refuse to deal with lobbyists are not going to be promoted very well within their own party.

I’d rather take a guy who stuck to his guns under the pressure to be like everyone else than settle with the like everybody else candidate.

People will vote for what they want, politicians will give it to them. I vote for what this country needs, there is only one politician with the backbone to promote that in this environment.

I guess I have higher expectations of a person who wants one of the most important positions in the world.

I understand, but I think this is a little simplistic. You are assuming that the GOP will hold the House. Given the ignorance of the electorate and the propensity to believe what they hear on TV, I am not so sure. If more people had a modicum of knowledge about how dire our economy is, they would be scared enough to try to do something about it. But, alas, Dems and GOP, are willing to drift blissfully along, taking everything that our government is only to happy to hand out untill the bottom drops out. And they will wonder why no one told them things were that bad. They have been told, but they are not listening.

The government has grown and spending has gotten worse every year, regardless of which parties control government. The last time the government shrank, spending was reduced, and the debt paid down was under Calvin Coolidge 80 years ago.

Hilarious. Ron Paul loads up bills with pork for his district, bills he knows will pass without his vote. Then he votes “no” on the bills which of course pass anyway. Then he says he doesn’t vote for pork! And his followers say he’s honest! Lawlz.

Not only that, he runs as a Republican although he is truly a Libertarian. I call that blatantly dishonest. Whatever else his ideas might be, he totally loses any support right there. Run as what you are, don’t take on the bigger party’s (R) just so you can win elections.

Love Coolidge and perhaps his philosophy will make a comeback! He is an unsung hero.

Regarding the rest of your statement, the same can be said for everything. We’re spending more now than at Coolidge’s time on housing, food, transportation. Inflaction Scott has no party affiliation.

That being said I don’t agree with the spending and I am doing what I can to promote and vote for candidates who will turn the tide. They ARE out there.

Negativity doesn’t help anything. The only appropriate response might be to quote Job’s wife. You don’t seem to have any hope and I am sorry about that. How about that saying that it’s better to light one candle than curse the darkness? Seems like that might apply.

It’s my understanfing of market projection.

By voters, I’m using a general term, and we’ll see who laughs last after this weeks primaries, as Santorum gets crushed as a direct result of his performance yesterday on national tv.

Yes, exactly. And when the bottom does drop out, everyone will act surprised.

I kept getting ads from AARP asking for my contribution to help them “save Medicare.” Finally I returned one of the envelopes with a note saying, “Sorry, I don’t support your agenda. I’d rather try to avoid national bankruptcy first.”

Code:
The problem, Scott, is that Bush was NOT a conservative, but rather a socialist lite. Mind you, he is a choir boy compared to Obama and his licentious spending, but I thought that he was totally irresponsible with the public trust.
Now, Rick Santorum, as 1 of 535 congressmen, could not change the inertia, except around the edges. As President, he will succeed spectacularly, b/c he will be able to stop the nonsense right from the top. Paul, IMO, is a grandstander, and I lost my respect for him months ago when it became apparent that his role is simply to serve as a Romney attack dog, possibly for his son. But, the worst thing is that Paul's transparent support for the guy who inspired Obamacare, got sucked in by bankrupting global warming "cap and trade" schemes, mandated abortifacients against individual freedom of conscience and supported the TARP bailout of Wall Street cronies, contravenes everything he seemed to espouse over the past 30 years. Rob

Paul doen’t make things up to attack people on. So, having nothing on Romney, he doen’t have anything to attack him on.

Jim
Are you serious, Jim? See my post above. Mind you, Paul is using his supporters' contributions now NOT to ask for votes for HIMSELF in Michigan, but to attack Santorum, same as he attacked Gingrich, Cain, Bachmann and others in prior attack ads. Is THIS ethical? If his minions wanted to support a former LIBERAL government official, they'd have contributed to Obama. Paul is truly exposing himself as a creepy man, IMO. Rob

I aw your post above. Santorum voted for every dumb idea Bush had, in addition to pay raises for himself and congress, and against unemployment extentions.

He was one of the reasons why the GOP congress spent off the surplus they inherited, and ran up the deficite again.

Santorum doesn’t have a chance at being president. If he manages to win the GOP nomination by some fluke, the Obama campaign staff will begin their victory celebration throwing each other hi-fives and buying rounds of drinks as soon as its announced.
