Thanks. I’d never heard of Dream Theater before. The first track reminds of cross between heavy metal and prog rock. Prog metal.

Well, they’re sort of the biggest prog metal band there is. Albums like Images and Words and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory are classics in the genre.

This image also exists for a reason:

I just saw them last week. They played Scenes From a Memory in it’s entirety. It was great. For some reason, I missed their tour in support of that album the first time around. I saw them for the previous album and the two subsequent albums, but missed that one. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time, so it was quite cool to see.

I thought my brother and I would be the oldest ones there, but there were many people there in their 40s and 50s (and maybe even a couple in their 60s). 😁

I’m really curious about this and I like to follow the rules. I don’t want to cause trouble.
I have ended threads at least 3 times. I’m afraid to get an exact count. Most of the time I don’t know why, so, I keep looking at the guidelines. I’m thinking of printing out a CAF guidelines poster to hang in front of me as a check list.
Just when it starts to get interesting the thread gets locked down. I must be like a, " bull in the china shop," with words. People would learn more if we had a moderator FAX page. Has anyone ever done a thorough study about CAF boundaries. That would be a good post.

Sadly, I didn’t kill the thread I was hoping would die. 😭 New responses began yesterday. So we wait again…

I joined the CAF to search for the truth. I’m always searching for the truth. Where else could I go?

Most threads that get locked seem to be created by trolls or devolve into some horrifying, cyclic spew of vitriol between a few users. I generally just post memes at that point meant to draw attention to whatever is going to cause the thread’s inevitable demise.

I suppose there could be someone trying to sabotage a thread.
Contrary to popular opinion, I’ve never intentionally sabotaged a thread. There was one time I did deliberately go “off-topic” from what the OP wanted, but even then I had made it clear it was just to force the OP to cut their crap. Unfortunately, the mods didn’t sympathize, and I got a lot of flags from that thread. (For anyone who remembers, it was that “quiz” thread about the birth of the Church.)

That said, I may have unintentionally sabotaged some threads in World News. I don’t know what they get up to when I’m not looking, but I sort of get the feeling that they do this every time I post there:

Hi, my name is TOM and I am a threadkiller.

Hi TOM!

So it’s another week and another fast. Does anyone else notice that time just crawls after 8 p.m.? I found those 2 pounds I lost. They were happy to be home. And I think I killed a thread again. It hasn’t been 14 days, so I can’t prove it. But the thread was active every few hours, and when I posted, it just stopped.

I did a bad. I has a sad.

Keep coming back! It works!

👋 If someone posted a prayer following multiple heated exchanges, and the thread happened to die right then, is that confirmation the thread was under evil influence, and deserved to die, and collected its wages due? (Asking for a friend.)

Yep. It’s a sign that the people engaging were under intense demonic influence, but the demons fled once the light of prayer shined on them.

Great! I was concerned about my friend being an intercessory (to thread killing).

Bless you.

Absolutely. I used to delight in posting prayers in many of the evil Amazon Discussion threads especially when those who created the dissension would get mad
when they returned and saw “their” threads sabataged by Roman Catholics and pointedly tell the Catholics that they weren’t welcome in their “Christians only” new threads. 😆

Waaaayyy before. The “Terrible Two” as I call those posters, were imo, 99.99% of the reason the Amazon Discussion Boards no longer exist. There was no moderation. You had to call Amazon to get anything done. Those two made it their mission to get every Catholic banned from the site. And yes, they actually posted that they wouldn’t stop until they accomplished that.

Amazon got tired of their antics and deleted the discussion forums. Now they are a shopping website like they used to be with books and oodles of stuff for every taste.

Yikes. It sounds like Amazon Discussion was run worse than Google+ and YouTube, and I’m pretty sure you need to deliberately be worse than those two.

I find Amazon more of a tech company than a retail company. Yeah, their retail business is the most notable, but they also are a leader in cloud (AWS) and voice-assistant hardware (Alexa), which is where I tend to be more interested. They’ve got some decent AI and image processing going on, and they’re even in on the gaming scene.

They’ve certainly expanded their interests the last few years.

It’s funny to think about sometimes. Amazon started out as an online bookseller. Apple was computer hardware. Microsoft was computer software. Google was just a search engine. They’ve all diversified quite a bit over the years. I suppose that’s what keeps them relevant and profitable.
