I’m attending membership class for a non-denom church tonight. I’ve been attending for the last 6 months and just love it there. I am finally being fed spiritually again. (Catholic for 3 years)
Only the Catholic Church can give you Christ in the Eucharist. Exactly how do you think you are now being fed spiritually? You have given us nothing to really respond to. My prediction - someday you will realize what you left behind and you will be back. I really have nothing more to say without further explanation on your part. You will be in my prayers.

I don’t look for the OP to be back.

He/she just started this thread to get people worked up.

Why else would they just make a statement without posing a question?

I agree with an earlier post. He/she appears to be trolling.

Curiously for me I dont go to Mass to be “spiritually fed”. I go to worship My Lord and Savior.

I partake of the Eucharist to commune more deeply with Him, to be closer while I pray.

For me, being spiritually fed happens when I am praying and meditating. Not so much as I worship.

I think sometimes we view church as fulfilling our spiritual needs. And it certainly can have that aspect.

But Mass should be about worshipping. IMO anyway.

I Protested for 30 years before I found the Church. I would like to say that she is right. We were fed much better than in my CC. Pitch-ins every other Sunday and free Pizza at prayer meeting on Wednesday evenings. All I get now is a day-old doughnut after Mass. However, nothing beats the food we serve at Mass. I can hardly wait until my confirmation so I can be really fed the body of our Savior.

But please lets never get so caught up into the being spiritually fed aspect that we have it all be about “me” and not about the Lord.

We have enough narcissism in our culture, we dont need it at our alters.

We come to worship. When the bells ring in the belfry, its a call to WORSHIP. It’s not the dinner bell.

Ya know? 🤷

Read John 6. Yes we are being spiritually fed, and at the same time doing the greatest form of worship. Worship, spiritual feeding and communing do not have to be mutually exclusive, but work together during mass, and all three are most powerful at mass.

And how do you feel about not receiving Jesus in the Eucharist there?

Oh I KNOW that. 🙂 My point was I dont go to Mass with the idea of being spiritually fed. That is secondary to me.

My intent to going to Mass is to Worship. 🙂
Being spiritually fed is what the Lord gives back to me by my worshiping Him. 🙂

Fine. Free will, and all of that.

Just like we can choose to do good and evil, so can you.

Ironic that you say “fed spiritually” when the ultimate spiritual food is the Eucharist, now showing ONLY in your local Catholic Church. But hey, way to go, turn away from the prescence of Our Lord.

Praying for your re-coversion.
Jesus said “Where two or more are gathered in my name I will be there”. Are you calling our Lord a lier?

What’s this deal that folks who leave the Church talking about being “spiritually fed”?

I hear this from nearly every one. Is this protestant-talk like “open up YOUR bible,” and inserting the word “just” into prayers as in. "Jesus we just praise you and we just glorify your name Lord and just fill us Oh Lord with your glory oh Lord. . . just. . . just . . . just. . . " 🤷
What? open your Bible is Protestant talk? just ? is this a stereotype thing? We also take issue that church is only about what is in it for them it is also about what they can do for others however one should be challenged to grow in their walk.

I didn’t know “memership class” was required for non-denoms. Enjoy!

While you’re in the class, ask them where they stand on moral issues such as:
  • abortion
  • in vitro fertilization
  • Destructive embryonic (usually stem cell) research
  • Contraception
  • elective sterilization
  • euthanasia
  • homosexual acts and homosexual “marriage”
  • cloning
  • organ donation and blood transfusion
I’d like to hear back about this.

Best wishes.
We have a membership class to make sure people understand the basics of the faith Though Ive never attended it.

I don’t think the Church fails a person, they are the ones failing to actually do the research and put some effort into understanding the faith. I also find people who leave are looking for an emotional high and feel that because people come running over to the new person and give them personal attention that this is what they are looking for.

I use to sometimes attend a fundamentalist church with my friend when I was young. It was fun compared to the Episcopal church. The center of attention during “worship” was the preacher. Even as a very young person I found no substance in their type of worship service, not to be uncharitable, for me it was just listening for an hour of preaching and singing some hymns. The teenagers made jokes, and not too nice ones, about the hymns.

There was much gossip in the church. I was attacked by some of the older guys because I wore a crucifix. But all in all it fulfilled the emotional need for a fun time, not so boring as liturgical worship.

When a poster says they are leaving the Church and has only been Catholic for 3 years I expect they will be unhappy again and leave the new church for another in a few years.

All is not what it appears to be in evangelical and fundamentlist churches, people are people with the same sinful natures as in any church. I feel that Catholics cannot convince another of Truth when they have already made up their minds. They must just leave and find out for themselves the truth. Although the Catholics who are so uneducated in their faith will probably turn into very anti Catholics, as unless their choice is another liturgical church there will probably be sermons about how wrong the Church is and just reinforce their views for leaving.

Also if I were to leave the Catholic Church or any other I would not see the need to post my decision on a forum from the church I was leaving. What would be the point?

Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

Bernadette
I have attended my church for about 7 years and have never heard a negative word about catholics or the CC.

As how it should be. It is a fairly recent discovery that I learned (read in the Latin Missal) that assisting at Mass should have a fourfold intention: Adoration, Praise and Thanksgiving, Reparation, and Imploration.

It was in the past year and a half that I learned that there were actual prayers to pray after receiving the Host.

Good. Go in peace. To give up the Eucharist, as far as I am concerned, is the sin that cannot be forgiven. Good luck.

Yes. I wonder if by “not being fed” the OP means “not being entertained”?

Ouch. Somewhat less than chartiable, no? Better, methinks, to pray for the OP. 🙂

You don’t state which denomination you belong to. I assume from your response you are either an evangelical or fundamentalist.

It would depend on which denomination you belong to whether your church makes misinformed information on Catholics. There are many churches that speak from the pulpit against the Church. It is great that yours doesn’t.

From one of the OP’s post it appears they belonged to the World Wide Church of God. I don’t recall if that is considered an orthodox Christian denomination or not.

No matter I understand that some Baptists speak against the Church and some don’t. There are so many that do speak against the Catholic Church and I don’t believe that anyone should use the pulpit to express anti Catholic views or anti any other denominations teachings either. My opinions are based on my own experiences with some churches/ministers.

The sole purpose of a minister is to spread the Good News of the Gospel.

I apologize if it sounded like all churches speak in this manner.

There are many people who leave one church for another and never find what they are looking for. Hopefully the OP will not have this problem.

Again I am glad your church does not say negative remarks about the Catholic Church.

I was wondering as another poster in another post mentioned that most protestants won’t reveal which denomination they belong to. Is there a reason for this? It is difficult to know where someone is coming from theologically if they won’t reveal the church they belong to.

God Bless

The OP got three pages of what she wanted. You wouldn’t post something like this on a Catholic forum if you didn’t want to make people mad. It is right for us to say “if you’re gonna leave, then rack off and shut up”, 'cause how do we expect to change her mind from here? It’s made up already. But it’s too much fun for her to make us feel like we’ve failed in some way. You know what, people leave the Church all the time, and it’s not my fault or my problem, it is theirs.

Just wanted to note that many Protestants are non-denominational - go to independent churches that aren’t directly connected to any others - or are part of a loose association that they don’t like to call a denomination. Many of these even think that denominations shouldn’t exist, that each church everywhere should just “follow the Bible” or some such and be totally independent. Many would also eschew the term “Protestant” and just say they are Christian.
Even many (not nearly all) Protestants in formal denominations don’t consider their specific denomination to be all that important, and consider themselves just Christians who happen to be part of, say, a Southern Baptist church (as opposed to calling themselves a Baptist).

To the OP: I hope you return to the Catholic Church and receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord! I’m sure looking forward to receiving the Eucharist myself in a few months.

There is far to much hostility in this forum. Remember the OP is our sister in Christ and we must act charitably to her out of Love.
It is unknown the reason why she has chosen this path but we need to pray for her to understand the seriousness of what she is doing. She made promises when joining the Church Promises to our Lord Jesus Christ.
What ever it is that has driven you away from the unity of faith in the Catholic Church is not of the Church I am sure it is part human failure on our part as well as yours.
When I came back to the Church I thought I was not being fed either. I realized I could complain about it or do something. So I have been studying the Bible and the Church ever since. I have fallen in Love with this Church for it is my family. If someone hurts spiritualy I hurt as well. And the Bible is our family history (Salvation history) I am now teaching Bible Studies and RCIA doing what I can for Jesus.
Now don’t think for a second I am a scholor or even above avg. I prayed my heart out coming into the Church for understanding and was humbled to see just how weak I am.
I have severe emphysema and Dr’s told me I would be lucky to make it to 45, this year I will turn 50. God has plans for me and I won’t turn away from his Church He started in 33 AD.
Here is a new Start Put God first and everything will fall into place you need to trust his word. Ask and the door will be opened.
