Recently there was a liberal congressman who claims he is Pro Life and he was complaining that he does not get support from Pro Life groups. My question to him would be, if he is Pro Life why is he not supporting Pro Life President Trump. Why not become Republican?

Usually it starts with the other party shrieking “f Donald Trump!! f Donald Trump!” You don’t generally do that for people with whom you simply disagree, so it’s a fair question to ask. When you ask for reasons, on the rare occasion in which even one can be enunciated, all you’re hearing is basically the CNN headlines for the past two weeks. lol And as the entire world knows, CNN reports… they don’t investigate… they don’t exercise such frivolities as logic or reason. This isn’t their job. Their job is to reach out into America and punch you in the feels.

Well if he is Catholic our bishops said ending abortion is the preeminent voting issue for Catholics. Also there are other Catholic non negotiables such as contraception, marriage and euthanasia all of which take precedence over prudential judgment like economics.

But I don’t know if he is Catholic, I can’t remember his name.

As the political landscape stands now I think it is. The Republican party as led by President Trump is definitely more in line with the life teachings of Jesus at least with the preeminence of ending abortion. As that Buttigieg guy said there is no room in the leftist political ideology for Pro Life people.

I have a number of Pro-Life Catholic friends who for various reasons (family tradition, economic policies, etc…) have been long time democrats. With the Democratic Party leaving no room for pro-life belief, my friends are torn and are looking a place to go. Some have already looked at the Republican Party favorably because of its pro-life platform—while stomaching other issues they don’t agree with. Others are becoming independent.

I remember some liberal talking head saying Robert Kennedy should be the model of the liberal political ideology. I was like…what? Robert Kennedy had eleven kids…first off the climate crazies would lambast him for having so many children and the pro abortion crowd would tell him there was no room in the leftist political party for him.

When have there been anti-Trump riots? I don’t mean protests, but rock throwing, building burning, car overturning, tear gas, pepper spray, casualties, violence, curfews, martial law, etc.
At his inauguration there were anti-Trump riots in DC. They fortunately did not reach the point of martial law, and no buildings caught fire although people were starting fires in the street, but everything else you mention was happening, and police in riot gear were charging around. I personally saw this. In several places over several days. Some of them were even covered by the news media. I believe Drew Carey’s 11-year-old son who was helping start fires was interviewed.

Would he be comfortable in the GOP (and vice versa) by taking contrary stances on other issues though? Actually, maybe it could work but if you disagree with your caucus on 10 issues, isn’t that bound to have some sort of conflict?

(Being selfish) If I may please get your (name removed by moderator)ut (understanding I may be bothering and am asking something more provocative).

As a Democrat though, could you see how this may end up hindering the chances of the Pro Life Movement from reaching out (the Trump People were probably already ardently Pro Life (online, like on the subreddits, there are exceptions though)) like to people with more progressive sensibilities (they care about other issues or are really Anti Republican (isn’t that sentiment like really common) or groups that might not be so keen or need more outreach like young people (as an aggregate) and the minority communities (who could get behind Pro Life but maybe not so much the GOP/Republicans)?

I certainly had the feeling that the March for Life this year was being used by Trump for his political preservation.
And what’s wrong with that?

You would perhaps prefer to have one of the extremely pro-abortion Democratic candidates win?

Or do you really, really think that any of the “acceptable” Republican candidates would do anything to protect the unborn? Pres. Bush did very little to nothing, and his pro-choice wife (the First Lady Laura Bush) did much to negate anything that her husband tried to do to help save unborn humans.

The other Republican possible Presidential candidates don’t have the GUTS to actually step up and do anything pro-life. They talk nice and they’re polite and they’re “gentlemen” who play by the rules–while abortion continues to gain traction as “women’s reproductive health” (the latest Michael Bloomberg ad is sickening, disgusting).

Pres. Trump doesn’t give two figs what his political rivals or his political cronies think of him, and that’s exactly what our pro-life movement needs. Are you active in pro-life activities in your city? Are you a woman? Just try being pro-life among your city’s activist women, and you will quickly find yourself excluded from any social or political actitvies. The only reason I still have any non-pro-life friends is that I play piano and organ which makes me “useful.” But nowadays, just being prolife is enough to gain you a reputation of being a “curmudgeon” or “ignorant” or “religious fanatic.”

I recommend a reality check. We have made no progress whatsoever with “nice” Republicans, and we will NEVER, EVER make any pro-life progress with ANY!!! Democrat because the Party has made a deal with the devil. So stop supporting useless “polite” candidates and vote for someone who can actually attack the front lines of the abortion industry. Who cares if he smells bad?

The fact that he was willing to “use” the March for Life as a political platform demonstrates that he is serious about pro-life issues, unlike other candidates who either gave the March “lip service” from the safety of the White House, ignored the March, or made it clear that they opposed the March and all that it stands for. You really want that back again? Like I said, Pres. Trump has guts galore.

No I would not.
Pres. Bush did very little to nothing,
You need to go back and refresh your memory. Everytime an right-to-life issue came up, W came down on the right side. Off the top of my head, i recall him reinstituting the Mexico City policy on his first day of office. He prohibit embryonic stem cell research from using any cells derived by new embryos that would be killed. He appointed Alito and Roberts to the Supreme Court. I could probably do 5 minutes of research and find more that he did. He certainly stood up for right-to-life as much as Trump has.

Or maybe he seeks to return the Democratic party to how it was long ago, when it was… saner. Respectable. Today’s Democratic party seems to care nothing for right from wrong, reason, logic, respect or even self-respect. It’s all about the Win Column. Must… beat… Republicans… at all… costs…! lol Granted, many Republicans are the same way, but they’re less vocal while vocal Republicans take heat meant for them.

My mom and her parents left the Democratic party a few years after Kennedy’s assassination. It was already beginning to spiral downward. There are still embers of hope however that it may yet be saved.

Any poster with “Regular” status on the forum can edit thread titles. The title currently reads, “Pro Choice Reverend Explains Why He Wasn’t at the March for Life”. I’m not seeing how it’s misleading. Rev. Rob Schenck has done various interviews about how he now supports Roe.

Only the mods can edit posts. If a post was edited, it means that some part of it was flagged as offensive and the mods agreed and removed the offensive part.

There are Catholics with a pro-life stance who go to college campuses around the country, & YouTube shows them often being heckled, spit on, occasionally assaulted, with people shouting obscenities at them without supporting their views - just verbal attacks & refusing to dialog. Sometimes people come up & steal their leaflets, or tear them up, or throw them in the trash. It is real.
