So … “People who slay other people and then take their own lives before being arrested lives matter” ??? 🤔

That is going to be impossible to fit on a hat - even if even abbreviated - and even for a T-shirt its way too long 😥 … it will probably fit on the NFL football field though - 100 yards … but with no “in stadium football fans” and practically no one watching on TV 😉- it might not be seen a great deal …

Okay … Hey … loot and riot away - reparations and all … Good job Minneapolis …Your Mayor, your governor and all the Democrats in MN - they are delivering what you voted for 👍 … and - woohoo - . . . .

I don’t think this sort of sarcasm is the most charitable of Catholic responses…certainly not helpful right now.

I don’t think many things would be helpful right now. At least sarcasm is amusing.

Curious what those CAF posters, who claim rioting only occurs after the police shoot someone, will say in regards to this.

What do you suggest to help out a 70 year old man who was beaten up as he tried to protect his business from looters, but ended up in the hospital with a broken jaw. How would you help out others whose businesses were looted, smashed, ransacked and burned down?

I’m sorry the man killed himself, but given that he had killed another person the police pursuit of him was necessary and justified and not in the least bit unjust. Rioting rarely makes sense but in this case it’s clearly just “let’s just find any old excuse to go riot and (especially) loot, since we’re not in any serious danger of being jailed, maimed or killed ourselves if we do.”

If this keeps up, Trump will win the election because the left can’t keep its people in line.

Blaming this on “the left” and the Democratic Party is so blind. It’s a huge boon for the establishment that a two-party system as strict and restrictive as that of the United States causes lots of people to view everything as taking place within a binary of two political positions.

I’m talking factually about what’s likely to happen. Whether or not it’s “blind” is irrelevant. Rioting and looting just pushes more votes towards Trump.

This situation has been on a slow boil for awhile.

There have been in this country, I believe flash mobs, mobs invading stores and looting. It’s just been ratcheted up a few notches.

The Manhattan Institute had a speaker who said there was already 2 other cases in the Twin Cities, maybe both in St. Paul of whites being beaten up, one left unconscious in the past 10 years. So, there have been signs of this possibility for awhile now.

I believe the Mall of America has had some sort of policy for awhile now, of no teenagers allowed unless accompanied by parents or some responsible adult. Some sort of policy, maybe it only kicked in after 3 PM and on weekends.

Gotta agree with this. Despite the media presenting the protests as peaceful, pushing for change, they are having an effect on middle America.

Wouldn’t it have the opposite effect then if Trump did send in the National Guard and imposed a curfew or something? If the rioters are playing into his hands then the federal government is making a wise decision.

The whole story is this: A man was being pursued by the police. The police were nowhere near him when he shot himself. But then a few false reports on social media started a rumor that it was another police shooting. Reacting to this false rumor, people began showing their rage. Their reaction is understandable, even if based on a falsehood. To combat this situation the Minneapolis police broke with standard policy and immediately released surveillance video proving the shooting was a suicide. It was gruesome, but necessary to see. They also immediately enforced a curfew, blocked off streets, rounded up rioters, and limited the damage to just 4 or 5 businesses downtown. State Troopers were also deployed and the National Guard was called up. All in all, I think Minneapolis responded well. It makes about as much sense to criticize Democratic majors for violence as it does to criticize the governor of Virginia or the mayor of Harpers Ferry for the John Brown raid in 1959.

In a way, yes. In a way both sides are getting something out of the riots. The Democrats are whipping up the public into nearly orgiastic levels of anger, while the Republicans are profiting off the resulting fear.

It’s like something we were discussing in another thread: public housing in the suburbs. The Democrats gain from offering public assistance to the marginalized and the resulting aura of charity, while the Republicans profit off the expected fall in property values and racial fears of the suburbanites.

It’s really interesting to see.

Their reaction is understandable,
As long as people keep saying things like this, riots will continue to be an option.

We should call out the rioters and tell them they are behaving badly and not even helping the cause they claim to be rioting in favor of.
They also immediately enforced a curfew, blocked off streets, rounded up rioters, and limited the damage to just 4 or 5 businesses downtown.
Wow. Amazing what a prompt, strong reaction to rioting can accomplish.

There is a difference between “understandable” and “excusable”. Was John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry in which many people were killed “excusable”? No, it was not. Was it “understandable”? Yes, we can understand why he did it.

That first part is right, but whether it helps their cause has yet to be seen.

Yes, like I said, Minneapolis handled it much better than the riots after George Floyd’s killing. But then this was a much smaller protest, so maybe that had something to do with it. Also the fact that the truth about the suicide was made clear only 90 minutes after the event by releasing the video may have helped.

What a keen observation, these riots result in death, loss of businesses including probably mostly minority business but the reaction is “understandable”.

More unarmed whites killed by police than killed by blacks but we hear this other.

The irony is that these people are better campaigners for Trump’s re-election than the Republican convention. Four more years!, courtesy of BLM.

One of the conservative commentators I listen to said something similar to that yesterday; in particular, predicting that the recent events in Kenosha, WI basically handed the state to the Republicans.

The Democrats might get the blame anyway, even though they might not actually support looting and rioting, because they’re the ones criticizing law enforcement (for their own gain) and they’re afraid to criticize the rioters because they don’t want to alienate part of their base.
