I had expected the RNC to have higher ratings than the DNC on TV ratings alone.

I also expected the DNC to have a significant amount of views through Internet streaming. But I haven’t seen Internet streaming numbers captured.

Nielsen does not capture streaming. Nielsen still has 25k households. So the millions number is an estimated calculation.
Rentrak was in the process of trying to do this. They were bought in 2016 by Comscore. There is too much red tape and privacy issues involved in tracking media streaming.

I imagine it to be more difficult with there beoing so many live streaming sources. Individual news stations, numerous channels on social media, and other sources had the video available.

As typical, the selection of data (Nielson ratings) makes all the difference with regard to the clarity of claims. Your data is very selective because it takes into account only cable channels which are losing viewers at an accelerating pace. That is why apparent viewership of the conventions is down on that media.

However, when all media are counted, the picture is quite different.
Across television and online streaming, the Republican National Convention got 147.9 million total viewers from Monday through Thursday, while Democratic National Convention got 122 million total viewers, according to figures released by both campaigns.
The Trump campaign also raised $76 million during its convention, compared to the $70 million the Biden campaign raised during its convention.

Additionally, most viewers are tired of the endless “fact checking,” interruptions, and commentary by the so-called pundits, even on FOX. They simply wanted to watch the conventions without endless interruptions and commentary by the “enlightened” class. That is why less Republicans viewed the mainstream channels than Democrats. Democrat viewers enjoyed having their biases reinforced by the elites, so they added to the DNC ratings, while Republican viewers turned off the cable channels, and reduced the numbers of both.

CSPAN broadcasted both without interruptions and reported that the RNC had SIX TIMES the viewers of the DNC on the first night.

I watched most of the convention the next day on YouTube. I’m too tired at night!
