Romney: Obama won with 'gifts' to certain voters

Veiled racism, barriers to jobs, disparaging commentary based on race, discrimination in hiring, loans, opportunity, etc.

Those are all still quite alive despite protestations to the contrary - and are disproportionately supported by conservative Republicans in veiled and careful phraseology unless they think they are in safe quarters. I’ve personally heard it or had emails etc, too often.

I’ve also found feigned ignorance disturbingly common.
I love this “veiled racism” stuff. Which group voted by 93% for a member of their own race? Who exactly is racist, Johnny? I voted for Alan Keyes twice in the GOP primaries, and NOT b/c he is black. Mr. Keyes shares my values! Disciples of Marx and Alinsky wouldn’t look one iota improved to me if they were white as albinos. :bigyikes:

Chris Christie: Romney’s ‘Gifts’ Comments ‘Divisive’
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday added his name to a growing list of Republicans who are rebuking Mitt Romney over his “gifts” comments.
“You can’t expect to be a leader of all the people and be divisive,” said Christie on MSNBC’s Morning Joe when asked if he agreed with fellow Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, who was one of the first to criticize the former GOP nominee over the comments.
In a conference call with donors Wednesday, Romney said that minorities and young people voted for Obama because he offered them “gifts.”
Said Christie: “You have to talk about themes, policies that unite people. And play to their aspirations and their goals and their hopes for their family and their neighbors. And I always think this is scapegoating after elections. When you lose, you lost."
Jindal, an Indian-American and possible presidential candidate in 2016, quickly condemned Romney’s comments, calling them “absolutely wrong.”
Christie, who is also considered a possible candidate in four years, profusely praised President Obama’s response to Hurricane Sandy the week before the election, raising the ire of the Romney camp.

Obama is the leader of his party and he is the most divisive politician the country has ever seen. 🤷 So Christy can go stuff his shirt.
That’s a bit of hyperbole (think Lincoln) …I think it looks like he is so divisive because he is GWB…Governing while black 😃

ooooooo…look out everyone! We’ve all got to bow :bowdown2::bowdown: before the great valedictorians and the Oxford grads! Us simpletons need such “enlightened” leaders! :rotfl:

Besides, even I’ve beaten Ivy Leaguers before.
This reminds me of something. A little off topic, maybe. I recall when I was in college debate, the real powerhouses were all in a handful of states, and mostly state universities.

I recall if we drew a round against Harvard or Yale or Stanford or any of the prestige universities, it was time to cheer, because we would walk all over them. But if we drew, say, North Texas State, Southwest Missouri State, Kansas State or (even) Northeast Oklahoma A&M, you knew you were in for a tough time. And it didn’t matter where the tournament was, either. Those “rednecks” would show up and there would be heck to pay if you drew them. I don’t know why that was. Interest perhaps, extra fire in the belly perhaps. I don’t know.

Prestige universities do, indeed, draw the people with the highest of the high SATs and GPAs and money. But there are plenty of other very smart people out there, and having gone to the creme de la creme schools guarantees nothing in the way of intelligence, let alone of fortitude.

Oh, Graduating does guarantee a certain degree of fortitude as meeting school requirement does take some discipline.

A college education may not show how much “common sense” an individual has but is does she that they have the ability to follow through, keep deadlines, and apply themselves.

Higher education and going to a good school does mean something. Doesn’t make you a genius or a hero, but it does show some character strengths.

Oh, and graduating from college is generally an indication of average intelligence- at least- unless the person cheated or was part of legacy or athletics and just passed through.

Someone with below average intelligence (as measured on psycho-metric tools), likely won’t finish.

They could be socially inept, emotionally delayed, or disturbed, but those are different matters. Depending on the program- many of these would be seeded out as well. Wouldn’t have made it through my SW program, for instance, as their were some “odd balls” who were kicked out- just because they “couldn’t play well with others.”

Sorry about the rambling. I have a 3 year-old.

I didn’t say going to college is worthless. I think it’s very worthwhile, though there are certainly exceptions. But I am not as inclined as some to make assumptions about the comparative intelligence or fortitude of anyone, simply based on which college they went to.

What do you think he will do with himself?
He’ll just have to find another way of getting out of the heavy taxes he’s going to be stuck paying when he starts withdrawing his $100 million from his own IRA.

He has a beautiful home in Beacon Hill and I’m not being facetious. It’s nice as it’s not the size of a small college. Still worth millions and big, but a really attractive pad.

I love Boston houses.

*oh wow…that is so cold and heartless… and some people say he does not care about some people…or is out of touch with some people…

I’m not sure if I get your post.

I said “He’ll be fine.”

He certainly will be fine. I hope he and his family have a great life. 🤷

I’ve actually been wondering why the press has been giving him so much attention lately.

A Benghazi distraction, perhaps?

🤷
Benghazi will soon be logged in with all the embassy attacks of the past. Remember, those were the ones that the Democrats didn’t use for political gain.

Oldcelt, you have it backwards: Obama covered up Benghazi for political gain - Watergate X 10.

A terrorist attack would be a huge blow to the false narrative of Obama middeast foreign policy success. So, they pitched it as a spontaneous response to a video. Obama administration also ignored requests for more security and when the attack was happening someone (we don’t know who, yet) ordered the CIA to stand down. We need to get to the bottom of this. I believe that the truth, when it gets out, will hurt Obama significantly. Now Oldcelt, be honest: if this were a Republican, you’d be the first in line calling for an investigation of this.
