I find it amazing that people claim they would vote for Huntsman - especially liberals. They obviously have no idea what his positions were/are on many issues like social security.

Social Security needs to be radically reformed, and the eligibility age raised to 70 or even 72 (sounds radical enough to you?). The system is going broke.

This will happen at some point, but right now there are more urgent fish to fry.

But you’re right, that might have been one of the reasons why I might have voted for Huntsman. By the way, once more: I am not a liberal.

I will vote for Obama though. As a practicing Catholic I am pro-life as well, but I am not a one-issue voter. As to whether Catholics are even allowed to vote for Obama, this has been discussed ad nauseam on this board, and I won’t get into a repeat discussion. I vote with my conscience.

BTW, had Huntsman been the candidate (a politician with far more wisdom, accomplishments and credentials than Romney),
a) he would have given Obama a run for the money unlike Mittyboy
b) there would have been a good chance that I would have voted for him. After all, I am not a leftist, but a centrist, and moderate conservatism done well can be very attractive.

Huntsman is far too intelligent, reasonable, and truthful to have been a Presidential candidate for either party, somewhat similar to Adlai Stevenson II (who, of course, was a candidate twice but lost to Eisenhower.) He also has (marginally) less personality on television than even Romney, so he wouldn’t be appealing enough to the electorate. Nowadays, we get the candidates we deserve because we fall for their false promises time and time again.

I think he might have been an attractive enough general election candidate. But the problem is, any Republican candidate first has to go through the primaries – where all the extremist right-wing nuts prevent any reasonable candidate to arise, especially in today’s climate (John McCain would have been unthinkable in 2012).

so you’re not voting? Because if you take a close look at both parties, you will find that both favor the rich regardless of their retoric. Have you ever seen a POOR politician? Plus, how much power do you think the President really has? Even if Obama gets back in, he is up against the opposing team and the courts. So far he’s not doing so well with either group.

Both candidates can spout off all they want about what they are going to do when they are President, but unless they can lead the other team to go with them, they aren’t getting squat done.

Yes, I think we are seeing Romney’s true colors, he does what he can to win. Unfortunately fate had him governing possibly the most liberal state in the Union, he made concessions and compromises.

Not only is voting for an extreme (I can use those words too) abortion supporter “pretty bad” it is one of the non-negotiables. Although those who try to justify this by saying they aren’t ‘one issue’ voters the reality is they are. The one issue is their party over all other considerations. Party loyalty over unborn babies. An odd set of priorities IMO but we all must live with our choices.
