Romney is going to be an excellent President. He as been hugely successful in everything he has ever done.
If Romney is elected, I will totally support, from the grandstand, his efforts to fix the economy, and hope the Democrats in Congress do likewise. But given the Republicans’ lack of support for Obama from the start, it is unlikely the Democrats will turn the other cheek.

When Obama met with congressional democrats and republcians and said ‘I won,’ that sure showed his support for bipartisanship

While I agree that the country is ever more partisan, the reality is that Obama was incredibly hostile toward the Republicans with an “I won you lost” mantra repeated when Republicans came to him with ideas. When he asked Republicans to come to Blair House and provide suggestions for the healthcare bill, he repeated “Elections have consequences.” When John Boehner went against his own constituancy to create the “Grand Deal” over the debt ceiling, he and Obama shook hands and agreed to a plan that increased revenue (read more taxes) while making some cuts that Obama said he could get through. Literally as they planned to announce the deal, Obama backed down and wouldn’t support it. The House has sent over dozens of bills as well as bi-partisan backed budgets. Harry Reid blocks them and will not even allow a vote.

So please don’t claim the blame is on the Republican side. Obama and the Dems had all three branches and they shoved through whatever they wanted without a single Republican vote.

OTOH Romney AND Ryan both have demonstrated an ability to cross the aisle and work with Democrats, notably the Ryan/Wyden medical care plan. Romney HAD to work with Dems when Governor of Massachusetts as they were the majority. Further his working with Democrats and their state healthcare bill was hung around Romney’s neck like a millstone. So he knows that even when a bipartisan bill is passed, not everyone is happy.

If Obama had shown half the inclination to work with the Republicans that he’s shown to radical Islamists, he may have gotten more done. Maybe this will be a good lesson for the future President.

Stupid comment. Even if he didn’t intend it the way it came across, he just alienated a bunch of his supporters who don’t pay income tax, like me. And yes, I’m still voting for him, but I can just picture someone leaning towards voting for him and then saying, “wait, he just called me a lazy slob looking for a handout. Forget him.”

I think the term is “moocher.”

Only to those who chose to interpret that way. He was talking to contributors and saying that people who did not pay income taxes would not be his voters. What is wrong with that? It is true. Sometimes the truth hurts.
No it’s not true, it’s a load. I have never paid income tax. I have never supported Obama. I was one of the few 18 year olds who cast my vote for McCain, in spite of Scarlett Johanssen and the Black Eyed Peas telling me not to. And this year I’m voting for Romney, despite the fact that he basically just said that I think of myself as a victim, depend on the government, and will vote for Obama no matter what.
I’ll bet that if I Google the stats, over 90% of those on the federal dole are Dems. I did not get that people don’t give back from Romney’s statement.
Your opinion, not mine. We employ a lot of people who work hard, but due to life’s circumstances, lack of education, etc. most likely don’t pay income taxes. I believe they are mostly Obama supporters by their remarks.
I guess I should just stop thinking for myself and vote for Obama since it seems like that’s what Romney expects of me.

To all here who keep using the phrase “on the federal dole:”

What do you mean by that phrase? On welfare? That’s how I always understood it. Do you know that just because someone makes a low enough income to not pay income tax, they are not automatically on welfare? I am not on welfare, no food stamps, no medicaid, no housing, no education grants. The only federal aid I have received is a low interest student loan. But my income is low so I don’t pay income tax.

No he didn’t and it’s the spin that has it interpreted that way. Romney conflated two groups, those who don’t pay taxes and those who live off the government. Because he erroneously used the same percentage to refer to them both, they were lumped together as “Romney doesn’t care about anyone but the rich.”

His later press conference made this distinction and while he certainly phrased it poorly and is being droplashed by Right and Left, the reality is this:

He was speaking of strategy–there is a hardcore group he will NEVER get to vote for him so there is no point in trying to get those votes.

People who don’t pay taxes probably WON"T be attracted to his message of lower taxes.
That doesn’t mean they a) don’t want the economy or their state to improve so they will pay taxes someday or b) Romney doesn’t have other messages that appeal to them.

People who depend on the government probably WON"T be attracted to his message that he wants to cut the size and scope of government. That is reiterating the obvious.

The BEST thing for those with no jobs or insufficient income to feed their families is a growing economy. THAT is Romney’s goal. In contrast Obama’s response is to print more money to hand out. Which message appeals to those who really want to be self reliant and contribute to society?

So when you dissect what he actually said, not to mention wonder what is MISSING in the two or three minutes that were not included, you find a mangled message that is not what the Dems are trying to create.

I listened to a number of people in the categories above responding to the Romney tape and most of them understood that he was not calling everyone who doesn’t pay taxes a moocher and even makes the statement that those on the government “payroll” are there not because they are lazy bums but because Obama’s economy is so miserable.

Romney is not a very good politician. I’d rather have someone who is a good executive however than just a good speech maker…we have one of those and it’s not workin out.

I am sick of Mr. Romney.
Sick of hearing him.
Sick of hearing about him.
Sick of seeing him.

I am part of Mr. Romney’s 53%.
I have worked hard all my life.

I have never received food stamps, but never begrudged helping those who needed them. I have never needed to use unemployment insurance, but never thought it “wrong” to use something that individuals pay into for just such emergencies. I have never used Medicare, but believe it is a good system I have paid for and that, with careful management, will be there when I need it. I have yet to take social security, but have paid into it my whole working life and expect and demand that it be there for me and for my children and grandchildren.

I am sick of Mr. Romney.
His vision of America is NOT mine.
And want him to go very far away very very soon.

Yes, good compared to Carter.
That’s difficult to say. Obama’s foreign policy is far superior, something that Republicans would give him full credit for, IF HE WERE REPUBLICAN.

OTOH, Carter opened up deregulation in the airline and trucking industries, creating needed competition in those markets, as well as appointed Paul Volcker to stop the rampant inflation in that period. These would have been highly applauded HAD CARTER BEEN A REPUBLICAN.

That is just not how I read it at all. And I read the full quote. This is the part that sounds so bad to me:
“These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect. I completely get this. People who pay no taxes are not likely to care about tax cuts. I get it. I think he should have stopped here.]And he’ll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean that’s what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people—I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Obama and the Dems had all three branches and they shoved through whatever they wanted without a single Republican vote.
Technically, the Dems haven’t had the Judicial branch since before Roe vs. Wade. You must be referring to the two chambers of the Legislative branch plus the Executive branch.

The single “Republican” who did put them over the top didn’t vote per se but issued his ruling from the Supreme Court.

FWIW, there was one Republican House member who did vote FOR the House version of the health care bill (the one with the Stupak Amendment, which got both Democrat and Republican votes) but that House bill never got approved by the Senate. So it was the pre-Scott Brown Senate bill or nothing, and Obama wouldn’t accept nothing.

Good heavens! You didn’t listen to the Black Eyed Peas? Seriously though, just do what you’ve been doing, thinking for yourself, and you’ll be fine no matter whom you decide to vote for.

After careful consideration of their arguments, I declined to follow their advice 😉

I think it’s funny that people make such a big deal about this comment. He is 100% correct, that he would get a lot of votes from the hispanic community, if he were Mexican. Racial politics are a reality. All he was doing was acknowledging that fact. 🤷

Besides, if he were Mexican, he could claim that white people who don’t vote for him are racists…but, he would have to be a Democrat to play that game…
rLg, I’m a caucasian guy voting for Barack Obama. Racial politics obviously have nothing to do with it in my case. But do you think he would have gotten a lot more votes from Latino Americans only if he were Mexican? Or could he have been of another Latino background and gotten a lot more votes? I also get confused when people say he chose Ryan for VP to shore up the GOP base and Catholic support. Maybe though Rubio meant all along that he was not interested because otherwise Rubio appealed as well to both the base and to Catholics it seemed here. And is from FL and a Latino too.

His mother was the daughter of a bank vice president in Hawaii. And when they lived in Indonesia, they lived in the best neighborhoods and attended private schools. Don’t give me that sob story stuff. It’s malarkey.
One thing I’m sure of is he is aware of both his grandmother’s life experience as well as his mother’s experiences in needing food stamps and her struggles with an insurance company.

If you are trying to make a point, you aren’t making it very well.

You can certainly “expect both SSI” and MC to “be there,” but they won’t be, because they aren’t now. It’s a ponzi scheme - there is NO fund that exists, holding what you have contributed. Would have been nice. Its time the “folks” realize the system is BROKEN and must be reconstructed so there WILL be something there when we both retire. Mr. Obama and this democratic party have abandoned you and misled you and are truly the ones pushing the wheelchair off the cliff, not the GOP. This is NOT the democratic party my spendthrift father voted for over the span of his 80 years. Frank, Pelosi, and Reid Obama and Grayson and Sebilious et al need to be the ones to go far away very very soon
Dad would have never believed this is his party. Romney/Ryan may indeed have been the first time he pulled the “R” lever.
ps. incredibly true statement regarding “Catholic” democrats
