Reid’s comments Friday repeat those of Gregory A. Prince, who wrote in a recent Huffington Post opinion piece: “Judge Mitt Romney as you will, and vote for or against him as you will; but do not judge Mormonism on the basis of the Mitt Romney that was unveiled to the public … . He is not the face of Mormonism.”

Romney accuses poor people of being victims and then his supporters come out with stuff like this. The media in the US has been objectively assessed by independent media groups. They found that the media was overwhelmingly against Obama. They would print lies and misquotes from Obama, while not reporting things that would reflect badly on Romney. It’s the same tactic that Mormon missionaries use, any critism of their faith or questioning the rational for it, is seen as the attack of Satan.
I wouldn’t describe Romney as “honest and decent” when he believes that as a Catholic, you’re a member of the Church of Satan or that if you have Black skin or have any Black ancestors you sinned in the pre-mortal life by supporting Satan. He is a member of a church that supports abortion under many circumstances and that thinks contraception is ok. Romney only changed his stance on abortion to make him more electable, not because it is something that he believes.
Look you are in Scotland and woefully misinformed about our politics as well as the Mormon faith. The President does NOT pass legislation. Perhaps you are mixing this up with Hugo Chavez or some other dictator.Would you care that he would pass legislation that is in keeping with the Mormon faith’s teachings? Teachings which are utterly opposed to Catholic ones? Teachings that are grave sins?
I am trying to get Catholics to understand that this “good” person they want to elect is nothing of the sort. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. If Romney is elected then there will be hard times ahead for the Church, maybe not within the first four years but certainly within ten years. This man wishes to increase the Chinese influence in the world by borrowing lots of money from them, making the US subservient to the Chinese. That’s the same Chinese Government that has made being Catholic illegal and tortures, rapes, imprisons and executes Catholics.
Who cares? The rest of the world does, even if Americans themselves don’t. We’d quite like the most powerful country in the world to remain the US, not China.
Gee. I prefer pro-American presidents, rather than anti-American presidents. Call me whacky. :whacky:Oh, so anti-American is the standard? I guess that makes sense. Not anti-any group of Amerians… that explains it. So those ‘values’ you talk about, are they secular ones as well?
Starsmurf, I may not agree with how you apply some of what you know about Mormonism, but I have to agree that my own research has shown me things which gave me pause. There are just some basics of faith which cannot be compromised on - and no, for those of you poised to type the question - they have nothing to do with abortion. They have to do with such basic Catechism facts such as “Who is God”, “Where is God”… and other beliefs pertaining to God and His interaction with human beings.
While I do not believe that religious identity is a criterion on which to judge someone’s suitability for office, I do believe that it gives us insight into who candidates are as people. For the life of me, after the stuff that various politicians have gotten pounded on for listening to while sitting in pews over the years, I can’t believe the pass that Romney is getting - from Catholics, no less. Yet Pastors Wright and Hagee were fair game…why again?
I’m glad you recognize that your posts about Romney’s Mormonism is equivalent to people who had a problem with Obama’s race.
I do not want to say that Mormons are bad people or that they are intrinsicly unfit for public office simply because they are Mormon. That would be utterly wrong. I do challenge people who said that Obama shouldn’t be president because he “is Muslim”, if that made Obama unfit for office, then so is Romney.
I do, however, have problems with someone who thinks that Black people (or anyone with “one drop of Negro blood” according to one of the Mormon prophets) are Black because they weren’t good in the pre-mortal life holding office in a country with a large Black population. Republicans have attacked Obama about race, accusing him of being a member of an “anti-white” church, again saying it made him unfit to be president. If that made him unfit, again, so is Romney.
Oh, I was quite clear: pro-American versus pro-all Americans…a subtle difference. Secular versus religious values…a not-so subtle difference.Gee. I prefer pro-American presidents, rather than anti-American presidents. Call me whacky. :whacky:
Values…as in family, life, liberty, human dignity, the God-given rights enumerated in our Constitution, the principles of subsidiarity in our Constitution and Solidarity for our fellow man, which has always been an American value. Obama shares few of these.
FYI,Mia Love, running for congressional seat, from Utah,is black and is Morman.

Like you, I cannot understand how Catholics can vote for this man. He’s changed position more times than my garden wind-vane (and I live in Scotland!). Someone who supported
abortion and only changed his position to get votes isn’t someone who has integrity.

Thank you for describing what you mean by values. I see too often the term “values voter” and “family values voter” and I wonder what it means to the one saying it. Every one has some values, and family values might even mean “Manson Family values.” I dislike the ultra-right co-opting that term as though the meaning was obviously describing their values.Values…as in family, life, liberty, human dignity, the God-given rights enumerated in our Constitution, the principles of subsidiarity in our Constitution and Solidarity for our fellow man, which has always been an American value.
But not to those who-] had/-] still have a problem with Obama’s faith?I’m glad you recognize that your posts about Romney’s Mormonism is equivalent to people who had a problem with Obama’s race.![]()
When have I attacked Obama’s faith?I get it, it’s hands-off Romney’s faith. Obama’s is fair game.
Those who have a problem with Obama’s faith are taking a bigoted position. You obviously don’t agree and support bigotry on both sides. But not to those who-] had/-] still have a problem with Obama’s faith?
Exactly. Everybody, of every creed and color and inclination, has values. What those values are is the question.Thank you for describing what you mean by values. Good explanation of your values.![]()
I don’t agree? Have you developed the ability to read my mind, somehow? Those who have a problem with Obama’s faith are taking a bigoted position. You obviously don’t agree and support bigotry on both sides.
I said his faith has been attacked - repeatedly. Never said it was by you. When have I attacked Obama’s faith?
I’ve never co-opted the term. We should all vote based on values, not the candidate’s race, gender or religious faith. Some people only apply that to the people whom they disagree with.Thank you for describing what you mean by values. On the other hand, if you values are of a Star-Trek nature, then…Obama’s not your man?I’ve never co-opted the term. We should all vote based on values, not the candidate’s race, gender or religious faith. Some people only apply that to the people whom they disagree with.
If your values include “gay marriage,” the right to kill innocents and bloated, bureaucratic government programs that stifle freedom and human dignity, then Obama is your man.![]()
I’m sorry. You’re right. You have only protested bigotry against Obama. You approve of bigotry against Romney.I don’t agree? Have you developed the ability to read my mind, somehow?
