Yes it is wrong, because it is not the government’s business.

It is not the government’s role to pass laws that rightly order society and morals? What is the point of a law then?

Where does the government get its authority from?

Is there anything wrong with this? I am not looking for an attack on Russia when it comes to other areas, for they are open game for that.

Is this morally acceptable for a country to do? And what can be the pros and cons from such a law?

God bless.
The law defines the rather nebulous concept as “spreading information aimed at forming non- traditional sexual behaviour among children, suggesting this behaviour is attractive, and making a false statement about the socially equal nature of traditional and non-traditional relationships”.
This is an interesting perspective. Do I agree that spreading information that homosexual behavior is normal, attractive and equal to traditional behavior to children? I don’t want children to be educated by homosexuals.
**
Gay rights activists have sharply criticised the law, which they say worsens an already difficult situation in Russia, where many people still believe homosexuality should be “treated”.**
Is there such a thing as “gay rights”…this is part of the entire argument for homosexuals. Do homosexuals represent a group of people that can be designated as deserving special rights as noted by comparison to those of color and slavery, etc? No.

And I think part of that “treatment”, some suggest can be hindered by the law, can certainly be the fine or deportation because of the law.

the russians can pass whatever law they want to, its their country. fortunately, in the USofA, we are still sane. the cost of enforcing anti-gay laws is obscene, although I understand that many here favor the use of peeping toms, snitches and cameras to prosecute gays.

So,

Is this “anti-gay” or is it pro-something. Look at what the LGBT are doing in California, trying to shut down NARTH so that the youth cannot, if they choose or parents choose to have them evaluated for what the LGBT crowd want accepted as normal.

Oh Putin, you fox! Just in time for a divorce: take a little, give a little!

But good for them for standing up for truth and morality.

Moralizing immoral sexual conduct to youth is a form of pederasty and is child abuse. Only in the West are we so stupid and benighted as to think that the only form of abuse is one that causes physical damage; and even then only when it lacks an individual’s consent. Perverting a child’s mind is just as much a crime as proceeding afterwards to mollest the child physically without their consent.

Based off the article, it seems they are pro-family. Some will see it as an injustice to homosexual people but those are the same people that have a poor understanding of justice and “the good of society” and of a person.

This causes me to wonder their position on abortion. If they stand this firmly with morality concerning homosexual behavior, then one would expect a pro-life position when it comes to abortion, if this was not just a political move. Do you know Russia’s position on legalized abortion?

This.

Good on Russia!

They lead the world in abortions, 1 abortion for each live birth if I recall correctly.

They also have something like 5 times the murder rate of the US. It seems like if Russia is serious about having a more moral society there are bigger and more important issues they could tackle.

I do think they have other things to be concerned with but this should not distract us from the topic at hand, and the conformity with “social justice” this law would accomplish.

I am sure murder is already a crime punishable by law in Russia, but I would like to see this extended to cover abortion. Maybe Russia will get there soon. One has to start somewhere.

Trying to read too much into it will just lead you off into left field.

The law is about homosexuality, not murder, or a “more moral society” overall.

It is simply an expression of the culture’s visceral disgust for homosexuality.

It’s that simple.

I think the last line of the article helps make the point:
The first reading of the bill was passed in January by 390 votes to one.
👍

There are too many examples to quote, but the callous and downright evil sentiments expressed in this thread are truly shocking. Most of you should be ashamed.

No, they do not. I think you just like implying that.

Well said!👍 Good for Russia! I wish the west could have a moral backbone but people get to caught up in this everything is ok and there is no black and white anymore, that its their right to be that way:rolleyes:. Gay rights? there shouldn’t be such a thing
