The legislation will impose hefty fines for providing information about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community to minors or holding gay pride rallies. Those breaking the law will be fined up to 5,000 rubles ($156) for an individual and up to 1 million rubles ($31,000) for a company, including media organizations.

For the most part, people in Russia, Ukraine, and Poland dislike the gays and are even more against gay marriage. This is not the government against the people, it is the government supporting the people.

Wow. Without making a statement either way, just…wow. Shocking.

It really wouldn’t surprise me if a similar measure was passed in one of the state legislatures here in America, by the way.
 
Good for Russia. 👍 In spite of what the liberal media’s twisted reporting is saying, the measure is not “anti-gay”. The main penalties are for propagandizing and activist activities deemed to be immoral as well as those that target youth.
 
Good for Russia. This is a very important bill as it pleases God and protects Russia’s SSA youth from embracing a very dangerous lifestyle choice.
 
So freedom of speech and assembly are only good in certain circumstances?

The “American legislature” can’t make these kind of laws since they violate the Constitution. Freedom of speech, assembly and press and all. Minor stuff, right?

While we may wish we would see this here, I question their motivation if it is really **not **driven by a desire to defend human sexuality as defined by the Creator.
 
May be am a horrible Catholic Christian gut I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of Assembly. We applaud to see these rights limited to LGBT lobby but would be shocked and angry if the US legislature limited these rights for Catholics.
 
The West has “freedom of speech” but it still does not entail everything, child porn and the like. Maybe the Russians are putting pride parades on this level.

Why would you compare unlike things?
 
This anti-gay bill may seem excessive but the campaign to normalize homosexual behavior is just as excessive. Afterall, this kind of campaign could be done with other lifestyles as well.

Dostoeyevsky, Tolstoy, those are thought to be all time great writers though perhaps pre-Revolution at that.
Back to the issue, in this day and age, one might be wise to worry about the likes of deep money, Soros type money funding progressive ideas. Viet Nam could be legalizing if not done already “gay marriage” but I think that could be nothing but a reflection on huge sums of money going into a country and pushing the idea.

So, I commend the Russian legislature for combatting this issue of gay information as it could be nothing less than propoganda to undermine the culture, exactly what we have in the West.

Now this may just be the spin of a reporter putting his own opinion into the story, but it could also hold some worrisome truth.

IMO, the gay rights movement in this country has been successful ONLY because they have correctly diagnosed the tendency in the past by our culture to dehumanize gay PEOPLE, not just behavior. They’ve done a masterful job of showing the human face of gay people and using that as a tool to manipulate the (legitimate) conscience of people who realized that injustices had been committed into accepting not just the human dignity of the people involved, but the behaviors they are inclined to.

Russians should not be cheered for despising gay people and forcing them into unwanted psychological treatment or being barred from jobs that have nothing to do with their sexual behaviors. That ill treatment will, ironically, be the source of normalizing gay behaviors there too.

Instead, christians must apply the lessons we’ve learned in OTHER situations of moral problems. Few people despise or shun unwed mothers anymore and it did not require that christians compromise our moral teaching on fornication (even if society at large did). Nobody hates alcoholics, but it didn’t require us to encourage them to drink up either.

It’s hard to separate actions from persons, but we must. People always possess the dignity of having been made in God’s image, even when the actions they commit are vile.

I would take a slightly different view. I do not think it is fair to say in the past people hated homosexual persons or unwed mothers or alcoholics. In fact, there was help for these folks. Medical therapy was sought out, now that is basically forbidden. Unwed mothers had places to help with adoption and care while pregnant. Now we have abortion.

What we have now is not only affirmation of the person but celebration of the sin. Homosexuality is a cause to celebrate and almost worship. Unwed mothers are also celebrated and seen as a sign of freedom.

Any talk of sin or being displeased is immediately seen as intolerant.
