I think Russian politicians are responding to a global infiltration of all institutions that demands and forces others not to just respect gay/LGBT people who will stop campaigning and live like everybody else after they get a “marriage” license, but no. They are watching a tidal wave of events driven by gay activists to force others to accept gay behavior as normative, at every institution, regardless of age, and parents cannot opt out their kids and raise them the way they want, and they are the ones horrified.

I agree with what you’re saying, Ed, but I don’t think the way to fight fire (i.e. “repressive intolerance towards those who do not embrace homosexuality and the homosexual life-style”) is with fire (i.e. “forced medical procedures” - for what, I wonder?). Rather, the way to fight fire is with the truth of the Gospel and with good philosophy and, frankly, standing up to be counted.

The Russians are disabling the gay propaganda machine in their country. You can’t get arrested for being gay but I still don’t know, except from an opinion poll, where you got this idea that the government would force medical procedures on gay people.

Good philosophy? It’s sorely missing in the US at all levels, The only philosophy being taught is gay marriage is OK. The Russians have put a full stop to the the propaganda in their country because they are watching its effects in the United States, Canada and Western Europe. They have every reason to be alarmed. There is no fight fire with fire. The Russians are using the propaganda containment approach. There are gay people in Russia but they are seeing the accelerated force and pressure being put on governments right now. This was an appropriate response.

Yes, the truth of the Gospel for gay and straight is to avoid all sexual immorality and I submit gay marriage is a form of immorality. This I follow with - NOBODY NEEDS ANYBODY’S PERMISSION TO LIVE HOW THEY WANT. I don’t need 24/7 gay propaganda in my face.

Hey Ed, again I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, just sounding a note of caution against extremity one way or the other.

Apparently, it is Russian politicians - not an opinion poll - who are suggesting “forced medical treatment” for homosexuals. This doesn’t surprise me. While I agree with their strong stance against homosexual propaganda, I honestly don’t think the policies will be carried out democratically or justly, knowing Russia’s recent history (i.e. the last hundred years+). Perhaps if these policies were being brought forward by governments in Australia, the UK, Netherlands, Germany or other countries, I’d be a little more at ease.

Yes, the “article states” and you repeat but nowhere in any reading of the bill is there a reference to “forced medical procedures.” We have kooky politicians in the US, too. But just because some politico says something when commenting on proposed legislation, doesn’t mean that a) it will ever make it into the legislation or b) that it’s true.
 
I fully support banning homosexual propaganda and “gay pride” rallies/parades. However, I do wish that the Russian Orthodox who are being violent towards the would stop. All people are created in the image of God and that includes members of the “LGBT” community. They need to be shown compassion. Perhaps if more Christians would show compassion to them then more of them would see the light of Christ and convert to the Catholic Church.

Wait… You support banning the free expression of speech and the right to assemble if it isn’t in keeping with your beliefs??? I’m pretty sure I just read a comment from you on another thread talking about how you were sad that our American system is “broken”. Isn’t the first amendment the most important of our national beliefs?
