I don’t even know what to say about this dialogue at Sunday Mass.

Be careful, I haven’t shared my full view on things.Just realized how happy I am whenever I see @(name removed by moderator) or @StudentMI posting because you guys always back the right folks and ideas.
Exactly. Nothing he says is wrong; racism is indeed a very bad thing. But don’t incorporate politics into the Mass itself.On the face of it nothing he says is objectionable for sure. The problem is calling it an altar of racial justice, placing those pictures there, or doing it in that setting at all. That’s my take, at least.
I think it’s wrong to throw out politically charged terms that have no real meaning outside of pop-sociology.Nothing he says is wrong ;
We can quibble over the wording, but my point is that there’s obviously nothing objectionable about the basic idea he’s trying to convey, which is “racism is bad and we should be proponents of racial equality.”I think it’s wrong to throw out politically charged terms that have no real meaning outside of pop-sociology.
There is no right way to talk about “white privilege” because it’s a derogatory, racist term.
Are you sure about this? I had trouble figuring out where in the mass he was doing this. The reason I question the timing is 1) the altar has not yet been cleared, which should happen prior to announcements, and 2) the priest is speaking from the altar and not from his chair or the ambo. This implies what he was saying was not during the homily either. Thus, it seems he made this during the liturgy…which he has no right to do. Priests must follow the rubrics of the mass…there is no leeway here. Also, problematic was his social justice litany sounded very much like the renewal of baptismal vows…something that required an affirmative response. Unless, I am missing something, If I were present and witnessed that, I would have reported him to the bishop.He says the prayer at announcement time.
