JonS … Thanks for that last post. Now for the hard part. What the heck did that just say? Here’s what I heard…All the past Church fathers, apologists, Popes, etc., say that Salvation comes only through the Church but each of them put an escape clause that allows for people outside the Church to be saved. Kind of like having your cake and eating too. Isn’t that what the OP was asking about?
No, this is not the case. There is no salvation outside of the Church, no exceptions, no “escape clause”, nothing.

There are those who may be saved who do not visibly appear to us to be members of the One Church, but they are mystically joined to the Head, who is Christ.

Acts 4:12
2 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved."

It a person is saved, it is through Jesus, and there is no separation between Jesus, and His One Body, the Church.

This! 👍

what I wonder about is do those few who do find it are they the ones who through God’s Graces suffer for the rest of us so that we too may be saved.
I’m not sure about that at all but I do recall reading somewhere (where I’ve by now forgotten) that apart from individual redemptive suffering, we as Catholics also believe in corporal (and I don’t mean physical body corporal but Church Body corporal) redemptive suffering. That is we all make up the Body of Christ the Church which also suffers. I believe one of the key passages in this regard is Colossians 1:24: “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church”

Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong on this please, but I forget the learned gent it was who went on to describe this other level or understanding of suffering.

I would be interested if you do remember or find out who the gent was who taught this if you would mind sharring it.
I see it this way and I see that every time we do something that God Wills we are helping the Mystycal Body of Christ heal from sin and corruption and every time we do something against God’s Will we are helping to make the Mystical Body of Christ sick and are trying to keep His Mystical Body sick for some reason. Probably because we do not know what it is we are doing.
Fr. Barron in the video link that po18guy provided mentions that there is reasonable Hope that all mankind will be saved. I am looking forward to growing in understanding of this reasonable hope and if it is Truth to hold on to this reasonable Hope and grow in understanding of it.

I do not know who it was, only where he got it from:

1508 The Holy Spirit gives to some a special charism of healing119 so as to make manifest the power of the grace of the risen Lord. But even the most intense prayers do not always obtain the healing of all illnesses. Thus St. Paul must learn from the Lord that “my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” and that the sufferings to be endured can mean that “in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his Body, that is, the Church.”

1521 Union with the passion of Christ. By the grace of this sacrament the sick person receives the strength and the gift of uniting himself more closely to Christ’s Passion: in a certain way he is consecrated to bear fruit by configuration to the Savior’s redemptive Passion. Suffering, a consequence of original sin, acquires a new meaning; it becomes a participation in the saving work of Jesus.

. Is it possible that all mankind can be saved if we all learn to pray and do penance not only for our sins but at the same time offering it for the sins of all Mankind…
It is possible for everyone to be saved. But will everyone repent?

I do not see how the idea of the salvation of all mankind which I presume would include the fallen angels as well can be reconciled with the teaching of the Catholic Church, Holy Scripture and the very words of Jesus in the gospels.

Other posters have already mentioned the words of Jesus concerning the last Judgement in Matthew and these words here: Matt 7 13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." John 17:12 refers to Judas as the son of perdition. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 refers to probably the antichrist as the one doomed to perdition. In Daniel 12:2, it says some will rise as an everlasting horror and disgrace.

On the other hand, when we pray I think we can hope for the salvation of all those living now and all who are to come. Mary taught the children of Fatima the “O my Jesus” prayer which we recite at the end of each decade of the rosary …“lead all souls to heaven.” Mary also showed the vision of hell to the children and told them that many souls go to hell because there is no one to make sacrifices and pray for them.

So, the salvation of many souls depends on our sacrifices and prayers. Pope Pius XII also said this in his Encyclical on the Mystical Body of Christ. God has made us sharers, with in and through Christ, in the salvation of other souls besides our own. We know that St Therese of Lisieux dedicated her life to the conversion of sinners through her Little Way and Pope Pius XI declared her along with St Francis Xavier the Patron saints of all catholic missions.

St John Bosco had a number of dreams involving hell.
