Same-sex couple says priest denied them communion due to relationship

Because in their mind’s eye they did not see that they were doing anything wrong.

The courts have been sticking their noses into how a church practices for years.
 
Did they admit to the priest that they were having sexual relations? If they have been living platonicly they wouldn’t be sinning. Is what I am saying correct?

They clearly presented themselves as a couple in the news media. That in itself would scandal to those with an orthodox understanding of the Church.
 
A little off topic, but a priest give me a ugly look during communion. I guess because I was the only non-white person at mass 😦

That’s really sad to hear.
But regarding the topic, I think the priest is right to deny them communion. It is even for the protection of the 2 people. Maybe they don’t know how they are disrespecting the Body of Christ of they DO take communion, therefore the priest is making the right choice.

People seem to think they have a right to receive Holy Communion. Nope! To give Communion to a couple living in a scandalous relationship is in itself reason of grave scandal. Of course, he should have addressed the issue privately, and directed them not to approach the altar for Communion unless they acknowledged their sin and repented, returning to walk in the way of the Lord. But if they still insisted in approaching the Altar, the priest, by denying them Communion, spared them from a most grave sacrilege against the Eucharist and perhaps even from damnation. For to receive the Body and Blood of Christ unworthily is to eat and drink condemnation.
 
It seems they do not fully understand the holiness of Communion.

Regardless of their orientation, they seem to feel entitled to Communion, as if it’s some common handout that they have “every right” to receive. Yes, God gives freely, but we have to receive with humility lest we become presumptuous.

As someone said, perhaps they were not catechized adequately…Let’s pray they may see the error of their ways…

You also have the right of eating soup when you have a spoon instead of a fork in your hand. If you want to receive our Holy Lord, get your manners straight! The last thing they could’ve done upon this withold of Communion was to bring the media to the process, and bring a possible scandal over the Church and Her priest. People these days… :tsktsk:

Indeed. On one side we celebrate everyone coming or coming back into the Church. On the other, we don’t accept the way they were taught. Where do we find the right balance?

Yup, true story. Only go to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Humble, TX if you are white.

I have a feeling it was more than just the “couple’s” private actions that caused the priest to withdraw communion from them. I’ve been at Masses where some couples certainly knew how to attract attention to themselves, to put it gently.
