I agree this shouldn’t be news, however, I support the priest who was just protecting the Eucharist. God Bless him and keep him. Amen. +

You also have the right of eating soup when you have a spoon instead of a fork in your hand. If you want to receive our Holy Lord, get your manners straight! The last thing they could’ve done upon this withold of Communion was to bring the media to the process, and bring a possible scandal over the Church and Her priest. People these days… :tsktsk:
May God have mercy on her, soften her heart and enlighten her mind. Amen. :gopray2:

Why did these women think they could receive Holy Communion anyway?
It makes no sense. Didn’t they ever go to confession?
I know a woman who cannot receive because her husband was previously married.
She did not realise the problem at one time, and was receiving, but now she doesn’t.
It is very hard for her.
Were they married in the church. You know previous marriage annulled? Then she can go to communion. If she wasn’t married in the church she shouldn’t have been going to communion anyway. Right? Or am I seriously off base? Sorry if this is off subject. PM me if you want.

Did they admit to the priest that they were having sexual relations? If they have been living platonicly they wouldn’t be sinning. Is what I am saying correct?
No that is not correct. They are holding themselves out to the world as a same-sex “couple”. That is sinful, regardless of whether or not they are having sexual relations. If they were just roommates, it wouldn’t matter if they were of the same gender but they said they were in a “relationship” and referred to the other as a “partner”.

In reading the article, the one thing that is disappointing is that the priest called the woman via phone - on the day of her mother’s funeral rosary - to say that he would be denying communion to her. The timing is insensitive. She needed comforting during this time. The priest could have provided comfort during the funeral, and then made his comment to the woman a week later. In the article, the woman said she would never set foot in that church again. And why would she, as every time she would be reminded of the discomfort and rejection she felt during an emotional time in her life.

churchmilitant.tv/platform/index.php?vidID=comp-2014-01-26&ssnID=275 this is a program called Moral Compass. They recently did a program called " Homosexuality & Friendship" It is quite good 👍

It was the mention of the partner in the obituary that led the priest to become aware of the same sex relationship. It’s rather amazing to me that a woman in a lesbian relationship could have thought that she could have been receiving communion at all before seeking reconciliation. It’s too bad that this was not known beforehand. But if it were, of course, the issue could have been addressed long ago. The fact that this came as a surprise to the woman is simply stunning to me. It’s as if a bigamist were active in his church, and when discovered would say, “What? You never asked me about that! I didn’t think it ws important!”

Is everyone just clueless?

I know that parish and that priest; this is slander. (reported)
Go reported what you like. That is what I experienced 4 years ago at that church.

How are you going to tell me what did or did not happen to me.

The priest did the right thing. He has a duty to protect the Eucharist from scandal.

I’m not saying any such thing. I AM saying that you cannot post about it here. It’s against forum rules to post:
Identifying individual parishes, clergy, or hierarchs as “unfaithful to the Magisterium”, guilty of “liturgical abuse”, or otherwise engaged in unacceptable or unpopular practices, based on personal “knowledge” or opinion

You can’t possibly know what he was thinking just from a look. And why are you bringing this up in this thread 4 years later anyway?

There was more too it than that. Just because it happen 4 years ago still doesn’t make it right.

In charity you could not assume the motivations of priest just based on a look and additionally not cause calumny about your assumption 4 years after the fact in a thread that has nothing to do with it.

If you want to hear the whole story this is what happen.

I was attending mass at the local church on Sunday. Our old priest had just been relocated to another parish. Once communion started the new priest gave The Body of Christ to everyone (white) without an issue. I am also noting that there were people that did not bowed their heads and say Amen afterwards. I (a non white minority) went up, bowed my head. The new priest just stood their and stared at me. After like 30 seconds he finally gave me communion. I also did say “Amen” after he said the “Body of Christ”, and he replied very rudely “yeah thats right”…

As the priest should have done, but I am having trouble understanding how a couple in a same sex relationship of nearly 20 years considers themselves in good standing with the Catholic Church after attending locally for only the last 12 years during which time they have been living in unrepented and continual sin.

I think they have been confused for a very long time on this matter.
I have the very same thoughts on this.

Well, clearly there is no “right” to communion. Perhaps she didn’t realize that participation in church won’t atone for sin. Repentance and abstinence from further sin helps atone for sin.

Maybe in the end she and her partner will be happier at the other church that welcomes their relationship.

The Priest is right, other-wise he would be complicit in their sin !

Indeed. On one side we celebrate everyone coming or coming back into the Church. On the other, we don’t accept the way they were taught. Where do we find the right balance?
Teach them right from wrong, as this priest has done.
