I’m not sure you realize, that the source you posted refers to itself as “real liberal politics” They are just assuming that the Davis invite caused the firing of the nuncio.

Vigano has reached retirement age.

Splitting hairs! LOL The pope invited Sanders. It’s just a fact:

bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-35999269

The article on Vigano speaks for itself. He didn’t want to retire, his required application for retirement was accepted because of his ambush of Pope Francis. His “firing” was expected long before it happened.

“Now Francis expected to go a step further, removing the Archbishop who set up the meeting from power. The Pope and the Vatican also made clear that while he was in Washington DC, the only official one-on-one meeting he had was with a former student of his, Yayo Grassi, who is gay. Instead they maintain that the meeting with Davis was part of a receiving line and that she was essentially slipped in by Washington Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò. The New York Times says that he is now ‘likely to be removed at the first respectable opportunity.’”

And Vigano was.

He recently met Leonardo DiCaprio too.

And Mark Wahlberg. Would that mean he likes the movie “Ted”?

It’s a conference where many different speakers will speak. 🤷
He does like Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting.

Many different speakers will speak, but only one US presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders.

The CNN source quoted the Vatican spokesman.

Here it is again:
I am delighted to have been invited by the Vatican to a meeting on restoring social justice and environmental sustainability to the world economy," Sanders said in the release.

“Pope Francis has made clear that we must overcome ‘the globalization of indifference’ in order to reduce economic inequalities, stop financial corruption and protect the natural environment. That is our challenge in the United States and in the world.”
In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday morning, Sanders praised the pope when he was asked about the invitation.
“I was very moved by the invitation, which just was made public today,” he said. “I am a big, big fan of the pope. Obviously, there are areas where we disagree, on women’s rights and gay rights. But he has played an unbelievable role – an unbelievable role – of injecting a moral consequence into the economy.”
Sanders also joked about the pope’s push to liberalize aspects of the Catholic Church, adding, “you know, people say Bernie Sanders is radical – read what the pope is writing.”
He did not say if he would be meeting with Pope Francis in his release.
Bernie Sanders: Hillary Clinton is not “qualified” to be president
The Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences also marked the upcoming trip in a statement, writing, “We’re delighted to host this conference to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Centesimus Annus, bringing together world leaders, including U.S. Senator Sanders.”
Mons. Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, chancellor of the academy, also discussed Sanders’s scheduled visit in a phone call.
“It does not signify any support of the campaign,” Sorondo explained. “We want to establish a dialogue between North America and South America so we thought to invite a (U.S.) politician. The President of Bolivia will also be there. Perhaps the others (candidates) would have been interested but they did not request to come.”
Asked if Sanders had requested an invitation, he said, “He has expressed an interest many times in the Pope’s encyclical and it’s clear that he has an interest in studying it. It might have that effect, (of looking like they approve of campaign) but we are not looking to support the campaign.”

True, but it turns out Pope Francis might not even be in Rome when Bernie Sanders is there to speak:

"The meeting will take place on April 15. No mention is made of Sanders meeting Pope Francis, though the pontiff may be out of town; he is scheduled to pay a visit to refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos at that time. Also worth noting: Sanders’ wife is Catholic. - See more at: aleteia.org/blogs/deacon-greg-kandra/bernie-sanders-to-visit-vatican-next-week/#sthash.JyS13ED6.dpuf "
Pope Francis will be in Vatican City:

“Sanders, who is Jewish, accepted an invitation from Vatican officials and will meet with Pope Francis on April 15 to discuss creating a “moral economy” that works for all citizens.”

Just accept it. I’ve been telling you the Pope accepts and admires pro-choice candidates even if he doesn’t agree with everything they stand for. There are other issues to be considered. Just accept it. What do you think I’m going to do if a Republican is elected president? Just accept it. That will be all I can do.

Here it is again:
Rationalization. Of course a lot of speakers will be there. They aren’t going to hold a conference and invite one person only, but Sanders will meet personally with Pope Francis.

Pope Francis is not endorsing any candidate. It seems like an endorsement, and it will be accepted as such by many, that is certain.

I don’t think Pope Francis endorses US political candidates, but he did call Sanders a “great leader,” and that’s something Sanders can be proud of.

And what are those proportionate issues that they would allow a catholic to vote for a pro-abortion candidate?

Since that question has been asked and answered ad nauseum on here, I have no interest in going there again. None.

Perhaps you could direct us to the post where the question was answered? The truth is nobody has given us any but have assured us their are many"

Pope Pius XII met with Hitler-does that mean he endorsed him? Benedict XVI met with Hillary. Does that mean both Democrat Candidates have Papal Endorsements?

In all fairness, Lily didn’t say the Pope endorsed Sanders, only that he likes him. No one can say there is an endorsement unless there is a formal statement from the vatican, but surely people are going to draw their own conclusions.

I’ve been away from this thread for a lot of pages, so forgive me if this is something that has already been said but is out of place.

There is no way the Pope is going to endorse any political candidate, let alone a Pro abortion Jewish atheist.

I spilled my coffee here.

I’m not sure if Pope Francis will be in Rome at that time because as I reported earlier from Deacon Greg Kandra, Pope Francis is going to Lesbos around that time but The Blaze is not accurate when it claims that there will be a meeting between Bernie Sanders and Pope Francis because no such meeting has been confirmed with Bernie Sanders:
Mr. Sanders, clarifying what he said earlier about a sit-down with Pope Francis, said he had not confirmed yet whether the two men would actually meet.

I’m going to regret this. (deep breath) :compcoff:

If a news publication labels itself as “real liberal politics” is it so difficult to deduce that they perhaps see things in a liberal way, and present things in a liberal point of view?

The only thing we know is that Vigano will no longer be nuncio, and that he is retiring. There’s no statement from the Vatican, other than he’s reached retirement age and will be replaced.

The article you provided is at best speculation through a liberal prism…

Pope Francis is going to Lesbos the day after his meeting with Bernie Sanders:

“Pope Francis will make a lightning trip to the Greek island of Lesbos on April 16, the Vatican said on Thursday, a visit aimed at supporting refugees and drawing attention to the front line of Europe’s migrant crisis.”

reuters.com/article/us-europe-migrants-greece-pope-idUSKCN0X4165

I studied in Rome and worked in Vatican City for a while, and I traveled to the Greek Islands and to Cyprus, which is very close to Syria. It’s easy to get there and back in one day.

Ok. Perhaps a meeting will be confirmed at later date, but no such confirmation of a meeting between Bernie Sanders and Pope Francis has yet been declared.

Believe it not. It doesn’t change what happened. 🤷

Neither one of us can say what really happened; neither one of us is a Vatican spokesperson. 🤷 He was replaced, according to a Vatican source, over the Kim Davis kerfluffle. I choose to believe it. If you don’t, that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.
