Savannah Guthrie calls out Trump: "You're the president — you're not like someone's crazy uncle"

Trump alternately played victim and aggressor as they parried back and forth at rapid-fire speed. “You always do this,” he said, looking angry during a tense exchange when Guthrie questioned his equivocations about White supremacy. “You’ve done this to me and everybody. … Are you listening? I denounce White supremacy. What’s your next question?” he snapped.

At least finally someone got him to denounce white supremacy on National TV. Kudos to Guthrie.

When Guthrie persisted on that subject, Trump complained, “Here we go again.” Guthrie noted that Trump has sometimes sounded “hesitant” about condemning White supremacists. He immediately pivoted to his denunciation of Antifa and “these people on the left that are burning down our cities that are run by Democrats” and demanded why the press doesn’t ask more questions about their activities.

Was that her function? I thought it was announced as a Town Hall type event in which the attendees would ask question and it would all be moderated by a neutral party.

But I guess Democrat media people can’t help being partisan, no matter what their ostensible job is.

Biden answered questions from the moderators over at his town hall, didn’t he?

Do you think it could possibly be that he was telling untruths and was called on it? A neutral party could do that, right?

Is it partisan to challenge a candidate on their answers?

I didn’t see any more of this than I did of Trump’s. But Biden wasn’t treated the way Trump was treated. Of course, both moderators are anti-Trump liberals.

For a Democrat moderator, being a political opponent would be (and is) normal. But no, if a moderator disagrees with a factual assertion, he/she shouldn’t enter into an argument. The hazard, of course, is that the moderator controls the action and can be wrong, just as was the case with Romney in one of the debates. He was right, but the moderator insisted on screen that he was wrong. Might have changed the whole outcome.

No. He has done it before, including with Chris Wallace. With Wallace, it was just that Wallace wouldn’t accept his answer.

Do you have evidence to the contrary?
As I said, I watched very little of either town hall. But I also don’t want to get flagged again which sometimes happens if one refers to the biggest Biden lie of all.

Maybe Biden told the truth, as others have said.

So, you think that news people should let Trump lie with impunity? If he says something erroneous during your network’s town hall, you should just let it go?

Yes, I understand your point that fact check could be wrong, but Trump has a repetoire of mistruths he routinely tells that have been fact checked seven ways to Sunday.

That is also why he reluctantly condemned white supremacy in principle without acknowledging that there are any white supremacists,
Nothing he could say against white supremacists or white supremacism would satisfy the Democrats. He has condemned both numerous times and it makes no difference to them.
He could have condemned the killing of George Floyd or Breonna Taylor. He could have condemned the Proud Boys, or any other specific person or group as being identified with white supremacy. But, as I said, he did the bare minimum, and in principle only. In practice, such expressions mean nothing.

I know nothing about any of this. That’s the only answer I can truthfully give. I can’t answer “yes or no” to something about which I know nothing. If you want to give me some reasonably reliable sources about these things, perhaps I could answer then.
Well, you either did not understand my question, or intentionally misrepresented it. I did NOT ask you about the veracity of Trump’s claim of ignorance or his claim that he knows nothing about the subject that he tweeted about. I DID ask you if you BELIEVE his claims of ignorance. If you don’t know what you BELIEVE… then you have a problem. The only reliable source of what you believe - is YOU.

I have read hundreds of those, and almost without exception they’re quibbles not real contradictions, or simple differences of opinion.

Did he? I don’t think so.

Exactly right. Trump does not want to forfeit the support of QAnon, White Supremacists, Evangelicals, Orthodox Jews, religious Catholics, or any other group. He cares little about what a group such as QAnon believes or their moral principles just so long as they vote for him. He has no moral compass, and doesn’t pretend to have one. In fact, some people like him for that; they wish they could do whatever they want with impunity as well. That bombastic braggadocio coupled with a remarkable energy level is what gives Trump his appeal to many, especially those who are not really into politics and even those who are otherwise opposed to his politics and policies.

Biden, on the other hand, has very little charisma left, much less mind. Just as bad, he comes off as too well rehearsed and trying, but not successfully, to conform to the leftist wing of his party, which has been steadily growing, instead of expressing his own views. It’s not a winning combination.

But the third player in this election is the (Democratic?) virus as well as its effect on the economy. This third player may put Biden over the top, but, I think, Trump still has a reasonable chance of winning.

Give it a rest. Trump just dislikes having his feet held to the fire. He rarely gets questioned on his hijinks and just can’t stand it.

I read she was the moderator. False. She was a debator. That’s fine but least call it by the right name. I’m sure Trump was well aware that when you go into the lion’s den it won’t be easy or fair. Kind of like posting in this thread or news forum. The teeth and claws are salivating to tear apart the prey. Trump entered the lion’s den while Biden was treated to a soft ball game. Where was the keg of beer and chips? Just think though in a few short weeks all the fun will be over, for they will no longer have Trump to kick around.
