Assuming they have had the sacraments of initiation they cannot be Catholics in name only, they are Catholics by the sacraments instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ. They can be disobedient Catholics, or Catholics in need of teaching, but not Catholics in name only.
Not much of a distinction. We can be Catholics in mortal sin or Catholics in hell.

Extremist? To far left wingers almost everything is extreme.
Please name “far left wingers” that have anything to do with the US government. The left in general is hardly represented in US politics. By traditional standards, our two parties are center and right. Schwarzenegger is pointing out the obvious: For the last 30 years, both parties have gone more conservative, so that now the Dems are centrist and the GOP is right wing, and the extremists in the right wing have more and more power. Educate yourself about the reality of the situation and you’ll be doing yourself a favor.

Of course but the problem is that calling someone a CINO dismisses them. We have a duty to fallen away Catholics to return them to the fold, not to judge them.

Bishop Jose Oliveros says CINOs so I think Catholics can be called that.

This British Bishop called some Catholic schools ‘Catholic in name only:’

A big distinction to the Church. Sinning Catholics are still Catholics, and the Church doesn’t paint them with uncharitable labels like CINO. 😦

I feel like all the people in this thread calling him a RINO pretty much have proven his point to be true.
There are always outliers in political parties and they draw unfavorable comment. It’s not peculiar to Repubs. Remember how the Dems wouldn’t let Bob Casey speak at the convention because he was prolife? Remember how ill they treated Zell Miller for the same reason? Why, they even ran a candidate against Joe Lieberman when he went “DINO” on them for supporting the Iraq war.

Lots of Repubs are opposed to abortion and to those who favor it, just as most Dems support abortion on demand, and are opposed to those who are against it.

You do not understand the meaning of CINO. A CINO is somebody who calls themselves a Catholic but does not know a lot of Church teaching and does not go frequently to Church. It may also be used to describe those Catholics who support things in opposition to the faith.

Bishop Jose Oliveros called those CINO’s who would vote for the RH bill in the Philippines:

No offense, but sticks and stones…

What we need is the Swiss Guard to come out there. 🙂

This is off thread but characterizing a pattern of behavior is not judging. Saying fallen away Catholic is judging by those standards.

Political Parties in the US are weird in some ways. There is no mechanism for kicking someone out of a party, a Libertarian could register as a Socialist and run in their primary for instance. There is no list of definitive things that it takes to call yourself a democrat or a republican. My feeling is that if you support a party, identify as that party, participate in that parties primaries, or run for office in that party that you belong in it. By these standards Schwarzenegger is a Republic and Lieberman is a democrat and I think calling either of them a DINO or a RINO is being dismissive of their views.

Most pro-life Democrats don’t get elected or if they do get elected, like the “bluedog” Democrats, they get voted out by the Tea Party or something.

:rotfl: LMAO!

The indispensable condition for our personal spiritual survival is that we say NO to the prevailing values of the liberal order and that we keep saying NO.

Look no farther than: Barbra Boxer, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Or anyone rated highly on the NARAL list.
