I disagree, there are areas where there is not a definitive teaching and multiple points of view exist without being disobedient. At times these points of view can correlate with labels like conservative or liberal.
Exactly so. We’ve seen discussions of the death penalty, e.g., some for it, some against it. Tell me, “Iamrefreshed,” in regards to the death penalty, which side is obedient and which disobedient to the Church? 😦 😦

I’m sure you have read the CCC on the death penalty, no?

It is not one of the five non-negotiables to which I referred.

No, that’s your definition of CINO and a very uncharitable one at that. You are in one motion forgetting that sinning Catholics need the Church, and need to feel part of it so that they may be reconciled to it. Calling one a CINO by your definition is dismissing them as fellow Catholics. As has been said, the Church is a hospital for sinners, (even “CINOs,”) not a country club for the saved.
What would you call Kathleen Sibelius?

Well Rich, I was wondering since Abyssinia includes in her personal definition that a “CINO is somebody who calls themselves a Catholic but does not know a lot of Church teaching and does not go frequently to Church”, what she would call one who does know a lot and does go frequently bur still sins?

For me all her definition does and those like hers is to drive fellow Catholics away from the hospital.

Brother JR said it best, “I’m still working on it, that’s why I’m a practicing Catholic” 🙂

I don’t think a Catholic who refers to women with large families as “broodmares” should be lecturing other Catholics about charity and name calling. 🤷

That’s not what you said, which was, “There is no conservative or liberal in Catholicism, just obedient and disobedient.” You gave no in-between, so I chanllenged you to tell me which side in the death penalty debate was obedient and which disobedient. Your own words! 😦

Right. So, if someone comes along and dumps on the Church, I should be excluded from the number who may take exception to whatever the person says. 😦

In comparison to Canada and Western Europe we have a right wing and a centrist party. In comparison with say Saudi Arabia we have to left wing parties. In comparison with the 1970s or so there has been a rightward shift on issues like taxation levels.
Exactly. And I’ll personally believe there has been this great leftward shift I keep reading about on CAF when I and all Amercicans have universal single payer healthcare like Canada and those Europeans, or something on the order of Medicare for All. Of course being certainly left of center, I’ve been personally looking forward to the day in my lifetime but I’m running out of time.

Well I challenge you to read post #59:wink:

I agree. I’d simply call such people who still manage to sin Catholics in need of recognizing their sins, of confessing them to a priest, of having a firm purpose of amendment, of obtaining absolution, and of performing the penance the priest prescribes. 🤷

That’s great Christine that you’re still working on it. Lots of folks are on their faith journeys working on it. And as a Catholic bishop once told me, while there is the distinction between non practicng Catholics and practicing, being practicing does not exclude the possibility of sin in one’s life either. God bless you on your journey.
