Sean Hannity faces-off with Priest who calls him heretic

Just listened to him now on the radio try to convince the people that know their Catholic faith that he is right. Sorry, not willing to support someone that cannot accept when he is wrong. Especially about something so dear to my heart as our beautiful Catholic faith. He also said that hes been contacted by more Catholic priest that were ashamed of Fr. E. I can only imagine what priest those were. The ones that educated Sean.
What a disappointment. I have been so saddened that the Catholic faith doesn’t have a public Catholic out there living the faith and sharing the truth and beauty of it with the world. The other “religions” have people out there, we have the uneducated fool. Disappointing.😦

The point of his letter was that this priest while maybe technically correct should’ve taken a higher road. To publically call somebody a heretic and attempt to put down his faith was wrong. Fr. J was saying there are better ways to get your point across than start flinging names and challenging somebody’s faith publically.

Having said that, I think Fr. J could’ve mentioned Hannity’s behavior as well. He came across as rude and very defensive.

I thought both sides could’ve done better.

At least Sean should have addressed him “Father” instead of “Sir.” Even non-catholic Christians do better than Sean in that department.

there are two ways to judge if a priest is a good one.
  • How deep and sincere is his devotion to Mary, ever-Virgin?
  • What is his allegiance to the Pope
Its hard to make a judgment based upon this…he could be trying to help things by showing that Catholics can be “moderate”, whatever that means, or he simply agrees with Hannity.
 
Fr. Jonathan open letter was wonderful! Clearly written and the best line to sum up my own point and his point;
Regardless of the issue and arguments at hand, brandishing law without palpable love almost always repels.

He has usually been a great commentator on Catholic issues for Fox News since I watch faithfully Fox News, especially during the death of John Paul II.

I agree completely with this letter and couldn’t say it any better!

And he doesn’t agree with Hannity or prove Catholics can be moderate;

Fr. Jonathan main point was to speak Truth with love…yeah…such a horrible concept for Catholics to use coming from such a bad priest… :hmmm:

Well, I agree that if they both could have handled it better…but the behavior of Sean Hannity was offensive, he shouldn’t have talked to Father like that…

Today on Mr Hannity’s radio show …someone called in and politely told him where he was wrong. Mr Hannity was defensive but deep down he knows better…I’m thinking he let his temper get the best of him. He needs our prayers.

I read Fr. Morris’ letter to Sean Hannity. I agree that Fr. Euteneuer could have handled the situation better and not called him a heretic. Perhaps if he discussed the issue with Mr. Hannity and tried to educate him. If that didn’t work, then he would have a total right to say that Sean holds heretical ideas.

However, I think that Fr. Morris did not defend his own Church. Mr. Hannity had absolutely no logical reason to bring up the sex scandals in the Church. That was a cheap way of getting the attention of of himself, IMO. Fr. Euteneuer has no control over that, and to criticize him for it was wrong.
 
I wrote Fox’s priest thanking him for informing people that the priest in question may have not handled it in the best way possible. I then asked him though, why he did not go the next logical step, and say that the way Mr. Hannity treated the priest was inappropriate and offensive. Instead of siding with Mr. Hannity (calling him humble and seeking the truth) and arguing against the other priest, why not call for charity and humility from both parties-both of whom seem to have failed in having these virtues.
 
I was a fan of Sean Hannity, but no longer. He stepped over the line.

But from listening to that show, Hannity did not really seem to be Catholic. He didn’t know his faith well enough. Plus, he sounded like he had such contempt and hate for the Church.

Seriously, not a fan no longer. I cancelled my Hannity Insider subscription.
 
Just emailed Sean Hannity. I was stunned when I saw the video of his exchange with Fr. Euteneuer. I expressed my disappointment and will pray for Sean.
Maybe this whole debacle is also a heavenly reminder to pray for all Catholics in the Media.
 
I am a big fan of Fr. Euteneuer. I remember about 6 months ago when he sent this terrific letter to Melinda Gates…

Just an aside, the USCCB themselves estimate that 96% of married Catholic couples use artificial birth control, with only about 4% using the church sanctioned “Natural Family Planning”.

Bishops stress sexual issues and warn on Communion

So I’ll bet the US bishops weren’t surprised to see this particular train wreck play out on national television.

(Before a stampede heads my way, I’ll grant you that there may well be a higher percentage of people using church-sanctioned birth regulation here at CAF than there is out in “the-world”. I’m not talking specifically to any CAF posters.)

The article notes in the very first paragraph that the bishops said anyone not in agreement with “key church teachings” should not receive communion. Perhaps it would be useful to forward statements like that, rather than personal opinion, to public figures like Mr. Hannity…presumably the bishops hope someone will listen when they say things like that?
