Trust me, your kids will know and feel it if your heart isn’t in it 100%. That will cause problems for them. So like I said, if you can’t 100% get past it, then you should. In fact, I’m pretty sure God would expect that of you. When the question was brought up and Moses was mentioned, it seemed that the divorce clause was reluctant.

I think that Catholics forget that Christianity is a personal, one on one, relationship with Jesus. I hear people praying to Marry and the Saints much more than to Jesus.

If you go for an annulment with the intent to one day remarry and you fool the Church, you need to check yourself with Jesus.

I think that the problem is that a lot of people don’t understand what they are doing when they get married. Same for when they choose Christianity.

I’m not against the practice of lawful decree of nullity. Popes St. JPII and Ben XVI, however, gave warnings of the “automatic” and “misinterpretation” of rulings of nullity happening.

Remember St Paul…

Roman’s 7
Do you not know, brethren—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only during his life? 2 Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives; but if her husband dies she is discharged from the law concerning the husband. 3 Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.

Let’s take a different look…

Marriage is supposed to represent our own bond with Jesus, right?

Can you confess Jesus is the Son of God and that you trust Him with your soul, but go bring another god into the picture? To me, that is blasphemy. No true Christian could EVER go pick out a second god to worship. I’d say you never were a Christian to begin with. It’s just not possible to have changed like that and then be able to take Allah as your number 2.

I say the same applies to an adulterer spouse. They couldn’t have given over everything at the ceremony yet be able to have sex with another.

That’s great. But you can’t just throw away Matthew as some Protestant misunderstanding. That verse specifically called out sexual immorality as a means.

The point, is that Jesus allows Reconciliation until death… no exceptions. He doeant say “I received you, and you sinned, now you cannot be reconciled.”

That verse referred to porneia. And Matthew specifically distinguished porneia and moicheia.

God permitted a betrothed spouse to be put away, who commited porneia in her father’s house, before consummation.

Deuteronomy 22: 13-21

This is against Catholic Teaching. And Scrupture clearly expresses you are wrong.

Not every case of adultery is evidence of an invalid marriage. People sin, sometimes hideously, but one cannot use a sin as an indication of a person’s state of mind years or decades before.

Adultery is not proof either. It can support proof. Proof is in the actually heart and mind of the person during their vow. Weakness to uphold the law is not proof that intentions were invalid.

If someone did not believe fidelity was a tenant of marriage, that will come out in discussion, when discerning their Spirit.

If they never converted, it will still exist. And if they converted, they will confess.

I agree that the act, alone, isn’t what gets the annulment passed.

I do know that the other spouse is claiming that they didn’t intend on death do us part or children if there is adultery at some point. The vows suggest that children and death do us part aren’t to be conditional. I think that is what is getting annulments through; honestly claiming that your vows were conditional.

I think that we can all at least agree that too many marriages are going through that shouldn’t. My own priest had some reservations about my marriage but decided to approve anyways. I’m not dealing with adultery, yet, and hope to never, but I can tell you my vows were definitely conditional. So, my priest probably shouldn’t have married us.

In the case of this husband that watches porn all day instead of sleeping with his wife, I’d carefully review past memories to determine if he was truthful with his vows.

Edit: We have to also assume that an adulterer spouse will tell the truth about their views on fidelity and their vows. People lie all of the time to manipulate others.
