I’ll be honest, I quit reading halfway through page 3. The fact that there are 50+ pages is quite disturbing actually. It’s no wonder that Catholics are viewed as sex obsessed by many and sexually repressive by even more. Come on people. Sex really isn’t that big of a part of normal marriages. Much more time is spent on living outside of the bedroom. And an awful lot of the time spent in the bedroom is for things like sleeping and changing clothes.

And you expected exactly…what? on an internet discussion forum?
Someone posts a topic, people discuss it. 🤷 So?

So then from discussion on the internet you project that Catholics are sex-obsessed and repressed or …whatever…Aren’t you buying into an unfounded stereotype?

Granted, some posters can go on and on, but we all have spare time to fill, some people fill it by going on and on.

Don’t get all in a knot over discussion. It’s disturbing that you are disturbed.

Yeah why are Catholics so obsessed with sex. Never mind that most of the internet is porn, every sitcom is sexual, a hamburger commercial employs sex, in the Christmas section of my local wal mart are sexy Santa lingerie outfits, entire political campaigns are won and lost on sodomy rules. Those dang Catholics, always obsessed with sex…🤷

Case in point, an advertisement I got from Spirit Airlines today:
Our Balls Have Dropped
$24 off* Coupon
Use promo code “24OFF” to save!
Just like our 7th grade biology teacher promised. What can we say? We’re late bloomers. At least now we can make our resolution: be more mature in 2015. We’ll try, anyway…You know how these things go.
Our culture is deeply and profoundly immodest, even if it is sometimes (as above) humorously so.

Funny!

What I think is the right answer is that if sex is about love, and Christianity is about love, Christianity is going to have a lot to say about sex.

And yes, figuring out what love requires in a particular situation is often difficult.

Well it’s every other thread on this website. The only threads that grow to monstrous lengths are sex related. And most contain no catholic answers despite the name of the website. I’ve seen very few threads that don’t make Catholics look bad. And no, most people don’t have time to waste. If someone does, maybe they should put it to good use fostering loving relationships with their spouses and kids, volunteering at their parishes, reading a book…

I initially signed up thinking it would be a good place to meet fellow Catholics since there aren’t many where we currently live. Our previous duty station was very catholic and I missed that. Now I realize it’s much better to actually interact with real people in the real world regardless of their religion. Well, lesson learned and hope someday the other posters here discover that life is a lot bigger than a tiny screen where you debate whether this sex act is moral, or how to effectively avoid the burden of children while still having sex as much as possible, or how important it is that spouses have sex , or even how important it is to abstain from sex while married. Most threads seem to center around homosexuality or masturbation or birth control or NFP. Funny, but most people in the real world can go years without debating anyone about any of those things.

I realize that most places on the internet are all about sex. Can’t say about TV since we don’t have one at home. The radio stations we listen to also don’t have that to deal with. And once again CAF criticizes the secular world for this while doing the exact same thing.

OP, thank you for helping me realize that CAF is no place for real Catholic Answers and is instead a place to just waste time. It’s a lot like high school with it’s cliques and bullies and loudmouths running things. It is nothing like I thought it would be. No support for truly grieving or lonely people, prayer threads that fizzle out after page 2-4–but mention sex and it will grow to 20, 40, 50+ Pages easily!

I am sorry you feel that way and I am sure what you could have contributed to the boards would have been beneficial both to you and to others. I do also want to address something you said not in this post, but in another. You said that marriage has little to do with sex. That is just false. It is so much a part of marriage that we believe it is the ONLY place for sex. And it has very much to do with my day to day marriage. People who use NFP start their day out with the question should/can I have sex today. People like my family have 4 kids with one on the way and sex is very much a part of our day. When I make the bed in the morning, I wonder if I will mess it up at night.😉 Divorcing sex from marriage is one of the main problems of our world today. Now you can marry someone with no arms, who cannot drive, make the bed or do dishes, who cannot pick up a child or change a diaper, but the idea behind marriage is that they must be able to perform a procreative act. I cannot think of anything else that is so sex central. And it is that way because God wanted it that way. I do not know who you interact with in real life but sex seems to me MORE of a topic in real life than on the boards. Sure, not NFP because contraception makes that discussion obsolete. But people, and Catholics in general, need to be able to discuss this because it is what makes us different and sets us apart from the world. Sex is a huge part of human life, and the moral implementation of it is in fact a co- creating unification with God Himself. So I think it would be better if IRL people discussed Holy Sex and the morality thereof more. Next time you are at the store, look at the tabloids and see just how much we need to discuss sex in a Catholic perspective.

I have my own issues with these boards as well. I think they are cliquish, feminist, And focused on issues that are not “Catholic” enough for me sometimes. But is that not what Pope Francis wants? To discuss and make a mess of things. Look at the synod. It was about family life right? It was DOMINATED by sex. With the ultimate questions being about adultery and communion and sodomy. And as Catholics we need to engage in this discussion in these times we live in because we have been confused, led astray and lied to by the secular sexual.

I hope you reconsider these boards and use them not as a place to find the ultimate Catholic Truth (because you will be dissapointed) but rather as what real Catholics struggle with day to day. And my dear, that happens to be sex, masturbation, homosexuality, marriage, NFP, and adultery.

The other thing you could do is hang out in the other forums. The prayer intention one, the backfence, etc. In family life and moral theology there will be a heavy discussion of sexual issues. But you may find that those other forums do not titillate as much and are not as active.

See this question!!!

Is it okay to enjoy sex?
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=933670

Of course, each member of couple can, morally speaking, enjoy the conjugal sex. The expectation for each one to reach the sexual pleasures and the sexual orgasms during a session of the marital act is totally fair and good, morally speaking.

The wrong view are very powerful, today like in the past. The catholic teaching in the details with all the subtleties is essential. But, the material aspect has to be promoted. The reading of the theology of the body of Saint john Paul II is not enough, the canon law and the former papal documents are useful. Only, the global teaching can help.

I can hardly imagine any less helpful thing one might say about marriage.

fpt, where is CHRIST in your explanations? Why is this issue so important to you?
The marriage implies an exchange of fluids. yes, I maintain my sayings. This sentence can be analysed as provocative, but she is true.

The fact of forgetting the natural philosophy is so dangerous. The personalism, the phenomenology, the reality, the objectivity, the metaphysics, the teleology, the sexology, the revealed anthropology, the theodicy, the moral theology and the anatomy are important for the understanding of the conjugal sex.

There are plenty of true things that are unhelpful to say. To characterize sex in terms of fluids is like characterizing eating in terms of bacteria. It’s brutally, unjustifiably, and obscenely inadequate.

there are thousands of great conversations here, and the prayer forum is wonderful for helping people. you just have to keep your concupiscent fingers from clicking on the sex threads.😉

Behind the fluids, the organs, the body, the physiology, the mechanism of the carnal union, there is a meta-reality, that expresses the conjugal affection, the conjugal sentiments, the conjugal feelings, the conjugal emotions, the conjugal sensibility, the conjugal satisfaction, the conjugal love, the conjugal friendship, the conjugal pleasure, the conjugal orgasm, the conjugal erotism, the conjugal spirituality, the conjugal religiousity , the conjugal complementarity, the conjugal alterity and the conjugal procreation.

As human being, we have to be pride of our human nature, material and immaterial. I love my body, my soul and my heart. I love my human nature. It is a gift from God. I am very proud to be a human creature and to be a child of God by adoption via the sacrament of Baptism.

My fluids are morally good. The sexed fluids and the sexual fluids are essential for making love!!! See the catholic sexology

I agree. I think initially people are shocked at the “fluid” statement. But it really encapsulates how one becomes one with another. The purpose of marriage.

Of course that the reductionism is wrong, and with all my messages, you can see that I do not that. In this thread and the others, I make a focus on the great part that is misunderstood: the material aspect that has to be respected and loved.

That is just not true at all. There is a wealth of good information here, there is also a wealth of opinion and ignorance and anti Catholic argument.
CAF is like anything else in life, you must be able to learn and discern, and separate the wheat from the chaff.
If you think that information is not good Catholic information, your (name removed by moderator)ut is needed to help get solid info out there.

God created sex and men for women and women for men. Therefore, it is quite normal that the desire that was created in us by God Himself is manifested in a way that He desired. For us males everything about the female form is pleasing and can be sexual. I am not supporting anal sex at all, which is pointless to say the least. Here are some quotes from the Song of Songs:

“Let him kiss me with kisses of his mouth, for your love is better than wine”

“To a mare among Pharaoh’s chariotry I compare you, my friend: Your cheeks lovely in pendants, your neck in jewels.”

“Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my lover among men. In his shadow* I delight to sit, and his fruit is sweet to my taste”

“How beautiful you are, my friend, how beautiful you are! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down Mount Gilead. Your teeth are like a flock of ewes to be shorn, that come up from the washing, All of them big with twins, none of them barren. Like a scarlet strand, your lips, and your mouth—lovely! Like pomegranate* halves, your cheeks behind your veil. Like a tower of David, your neck, built in courses, A thousand shields hanging upon it, all the armor of warriors. Your breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle feeding among the lilies. Until the day grows cool and the shadows flee, I shall go to the mountain of myrrh, to the hill of frankincense. You are beautiful in every way, my friend”

" Let my lover come to his garden and eat its fruits of choicest yield."

"My lover put his hand in through the opening: my innermost being* trembled because of him.

“I rose to open for my lover, my hands dripping myrrh: My fingers, flowing myrrh upon the handles of the lock. How beautiful are your feet in sandals, O noble daughter! Your curving thighs like jewels, the product of skilled hands. Your valley, a round bowl that should never lack mixed wine. Your belly, a mound of wheat, encircled with lilies. Your breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle. Your neck like a tower of ivory; your eyes, pools in Heshbon
by the gate of Bath-rabbim. Your nose like the tower of Lebanon that looks toward Damascus. Your head rises upon you like Carmel; your hair is like purple; a king is caught in its locks.”

Read this forum, there are many questions on the conjugal act? Why??? Many reasons???

I guess we agree to greatly disagree. Here is some info:

Sex, however, which is above all manifested in the body, and which as a property of the body falls under the senses, creates a possibility of concupiscence. The concupiscence of the flesh is most closely linked to sensuality. Sensuality reacts to the sexual values connected precisely with the body, and this reaction possesses a directional character (inherent orderly toward something).

From this first stage of the reaction of sensuality is very easy to transition to the next one, which is desire. In the first stage, we find out that this value “reaches” the subject, whereas the case of desire, the subject clearly turns toward the value. Something in the subject starts to gravitate toward and cling to it, and moreover, some vehement, spontaneous process starts in the subject (in man) and proceeds in the direction of ultimately willing this value. Sensual desire is not yet willing, but clearly tries to become it.
This is a source of great tensions in the interior life of the person: these tensions are linked to the virtue of temperance.

The reactions of sensuality possess a directional character not merely from the side of the object, where the concupiscence of the flesh is not limited to the sensitive concupiscible power but imparts itself to the will and attempts to impose on the will its own proper relation to the object.

The direction of the reaction first of all points to the “body and sex”, and secondly to “use”. It is sensual desire that tends toward this together with “bodily love”, which seeks satisfaction in the “body and sex” through use. Once this “love” is satisfied, the entire relation to the object ceases; interest in it disappears until the moment when desire re-awakens. Sensuality finds it “outlet” in desire. The concupiscence of the flesh goes in the direction of finding “an outlet”, and after having found it, the entire relation to the object of desire breaks off. In the animal world, where sexual life is regulated by the reproductive instinct correctly aligned with the need to preserve the species, such a closing of the concupiscible reaction is completely sufficient. In the world of persons, however, a serious danger of a moral nature emerges at this point.

“Bodily love”, which grows from the very concupiscence of the flesh, does not contain in itself the value that love of the person should possess. For the concupiscence of the flesh replaces the object of love, which is the person, with another, namely the “body and sex” linked to some person. As is known, the reaction of sensuality is not related to the person as person, but only to the “body and sex” of a concrete person, precisely “as a possible object of use”. Thus, as a matter of fact, in the field of vision of desire proceeding from the concupiscence of the flesh, the person of the other sex is present not as a person but as the “body and sex”. The place of the personal value that is essential to love is taken by the sexual value itself, which in turn becomes the center for crystallizing the whole lived-experience. Because the lived-experience is accompanied by the sensual affection of love, desire acquires the character of an amorous lived-experience — one that is strong and intense, because it is firmly based on the sexual reactions of the body and on the senses. When speaking of the “sensual affection of love” we do not mean the reaction of affectivity alone, which itself does not react to the “body and the sex”, but to the “human being of the other sex” – “femininity” or “masculinity”, as the analysis in chapter II revealed. “Affection” in this case signifies a sensual state evoked first of all by the desire of the “body and sex” as that which corresponds to sensuality alone, and then by the satisfaction of this desire through “bodily love”.

This concupiscence leads to “love” that is not love, for it evokes amorous lived-experiences on the basis of sensual desire alone and its satisfaction. These lived-experiences have the person of the other sex for their object, and at the same time, they do not measure up the person, for they stop merely on the level of the “body and sex” as their proper and only content. From here the disintegration of love proceeds. With great force, the concupiscence of the flesh pushes toward bodily intimacy, toward sexual intercourse. However, this intimacy and intercourse grown out of the concupiscence of the flesh alone do not unite a man and a woman as persons, do not have the value of a personal union, and are not love in its proper (i.e. ethical) meaning. On the contrary, this sexual intimacy and intercourse that grow out of the concupiscence of the flesh alone are a denial of the love of persons, for at their basis lies the directional character to “use”—the reaction characteristic of pure sensuality. This reaction must be incorporated in a correct and honorable relation to the person, and this we call integration. When left to its own devices, the concupiscence of the flesh is not a source of the person’s love, even though it evokes amorous (erotic) lived-experiences charged with a large dose of sensual affections.
