OK.Nope, I don’t force anyone to shake my hand because I don’t like this gesture either. Infact, I am forced because everyone in the pew offers their hands to me and out of courtesy I shake their hands. But, I don’t force anybody to do this.
That would work for me as well. I don’t need to shake anyone hands if I can verbally offer a “peace be with you”. At times I do this too.OK.
If I go to a new church for mass where they feel the need to touch each other, they usually get the idea when I turn to them with my hands clasped in front of me or at times behind my back that I have not desire to shake hands but just verbally offer a sign of peace
I can’t disagree with that. But why people make a big deal out of hand shaking or not hand shaking? Why some said “it is between me and God”?Yup and some of us love our neighbor by just saying Peace be with you…it is the same love just no touching![]()
How rude!OK.

Yes, I see something similar to that. People either don’t turn their head to the right, left, and behind. Others bound their head praying at the moment. I get their point and don’t bother except trying to say in my mind"peace be with them".Simple…if I have my hands clasped in front of me …I am not willing to shake your hands
If I turn and say to you “PBWY” and clasp my hands in front of me I really dont want you to shake my hand.![]()
I personally, make a big deal outta it because I don’t like it and it is not needed just to do it because it makes someone feel good is not justification for me!. But why people make a big deal out of hand shaking or not hand shaking?
I understand your prefernce, others might need that handshake along with the intention of the handshake - it is not just about making someone feel good.I personally, make a big deal outta it because I don’t like it and it is not needed just to do it because it makes someone feel good is not justification for me!
How ignorant to think that everyone wants to be touched or anything elseHow rude!
DOES THAT MANDATE THAT I HOLD HANDS WITH PEOPLE OR TOUCH THEM? NOPE!I think that many of you are forgetting the purpose of Mass. We are there because God has shown His love by offering His Son as a sacrifice.
SO QUALITY TIME TO YOU IS HAND HOLDING AND SHAKING HANDSWe take the Mass from what Jesus said at the Last Supper. At the Last Supper, Jesus was spending quality time getting close to His disciples and preparing them for life after His crucifiction.
I AM TOGETHER WITH THOSE THAT LOVE OUR LORD…I JUST DONT FEEL THE NEED OR CALLING TO TOUCH THEM.They were there TOGETHER with Christ - united! This was social therefore the Mass should also be social. It should be a getting together of all those who love Our Lord.
WELL I FOR ONE NEVER CLAIMED TO BE JESUS.These people who you are ‘too disgusted’ to touch are your brothers and sisters in Christ! Take a good look at yourselves! Jesus would never have been ‘too concerned with germs’ to spend time with the lepers. He would never have been so self-absorbed to think that other people were not relevant to His relationship with the Father.
I FOR ONE AM DISAPPOINTED TOO.I am unimpressed by a lot of people here- disappointed. You are so self absorbed that you thing that you only go to Mass for yourselves and thet you need not be united to your brothers and sisters. A handshake is what it is - a small token, an acknowledgement that we are all there together - united as the disciples were with Jesus. Don’t forget!
you sure about that? I do recall at least one poster stating otherwiseI understand your prefernce, others might need that handshake along with the intention of the handshake - it is not just about making someone feel good.
Don’t shout at me - I thought you weren’t one to show your emotions! How ignorant to think that everyone wants to be touched or anything else

You wanna shake hands or hold hands or whatever…knock yourself out but dont be insulted or hurt when not everyone wants to get touchy feely with ya at mass!
the keyword is “just”. I believe that when we do a hand shake, we share the sign of peace. Because of this intention, I feel good that someone wants to wish and share that peace with me. For this, I do the same with others.you sure about that? I do recall at least one poster stating otherwise![]()
you might want to take this thought of feeling pity out. It won’t help you. For me, I don’t feel pity for anyone for the handshake. Feeling pity for someone to do this is not a true meaning of sharing peace.I’m usually alone, and I really dislike standing there waiting for people to finish up with their families and friends and then turn to take pity on the lone woman near them.
It is pity, whether I feel that way or not. Pity is not as negative a word as it’s made out to be. I am pitied because I have to wait for people to first share the sign of peace with the people they genuinely care for and know well, then they turn to those whom they don’t know like me standing alone. Tell me water, when you attend mass with someone you know, do you share with them first, or the stranger who is standing alone near you? It’s a matter of being second best in a way.you might want to take this thought of feeling pity out. It won’t help you. For me, I don’t feel pity for anyone for the handshake. Honestly, it feels like junior high school gym class when they paired up girls and boys who didn’t know each other and taught us how to two step around the gym floor. The dancing and the music are nice, but you totally miss the point when it’s forced.
I noticed 1/2 way through that i was typing in caps…not yelling just to lazy to unlock the caps.Don’t shout at me - I thought you weren’t one to show your emotions!
Exactly, it feels ackward when you are by yourself and no one offers their hand. That is why they should just stop it altogether. The priest starts it off by saying, “now lets offer each one the sign of peace”. Which he should just leave it out altogether. IMHO.It is pity, whether I feel that way or not.
