Does what bother?
Someone grabbing my hand to shake it? Yes
Someone ASSuming I want to shake their hand? Yes
Seeing people shake hands? No
Does it bother you when you don’t want to handshake them when they offer you a hand shake? and why?

Actually since I keep my hands together either in front of myself or behind my back they no longer offer to shake hands;)

yes. That’s what others do. I don’t need to know the reason, I just don’t handshake them.

If you can do that then there is no reason to get rid of handshake.

I assume that they have warts and want to keep the germs to thamselves. Either that or they have picked their nose and not got rid of the evidence. I guess we all jump to conclusions.

Just kidding!😛

It could be one of the reaons. One time a lady didn’t know why I didn’t want to handshake. After the mass, I told her I wasn’t feeling well and been sneezing. She said thanks.

To tell you the truth I’m shaking all over(not just hands) after reading the posts in this thread. Bye…

A lot has been said about holding hands during the Our Father and shaking hands or how the sign of peace should be properly given. Maybe this should be for another thread, but what about the extra-rubrical practice of the “special” blessing. Non-Catholics and little children who do not receive approach the altar for their special blessing. This means the priest places his hand on their heads and says something. Then he reaches into the chalice and gives the next person a Host. Besides being very unsanitary, does anyone see a theological problem with this common practice that is not approved? Hint! It has to do with the Real Presence.

the tounge may contains more germs than their heads do. Is ther any time when you receive using tongue and your tongue touch one of the pastor’s finger? it happened to me.

🤷 No - I see no problem. Jesus came for the sinners, not for the righteous. Why shouldn’t everyone including non-Catholics and children feel able to approach.

I do not like to shake hands. Too much icky can be involved.

I find it less offensive to hug at the Peace Greeting.

There is no reason for the Sign of Peace to take longer than the Homily does, though. There is no reason why any one needs to greet personally every person.

There are many problems with suggesting that people MUST, or even SHOULD hold hands during the Lord’s Prayer - sure, for some, it’s a natural thing to do, and it’s nice. If, however, one needs to move their feet more than 3" in order to take someone’s hands, or if one should choose to not hold hands, but is ‘grabbed’ (for lack of a better term) in order to come into the group that is holding hands, that’s a problem! Just like saying ‘I love you’ to someone should be something that comes natural, and you do when it feels right to you, one should also hold hands when praying, no matter who they are praying with, or about:shrug:

Do we need to exaggerate thing when discussing?
I think this thread is long enough and everything is covered -
I should move on.
Yes - it is good fun! Sometimes the homily gets skipped altogether! And the priest thinks he is being kind letting us all go after a Mass that has lasted 25 minutes. It’s great!

What would you do if you were walking down the street with your parish priest and turned the corner and Jesus was standing in front of you?

Would you turn to your priest and ask him to give you his blessing?

Do you see a problem when practices are added to the Mass that are not supposed to be there, that are not approved or in the rubrics?

Oh yeah tons of issues with this practice too…
there are numerous threads on it too:)

I still don’t see any problem. But of course, if you go looking for problems, they will always find you!
If I met Jesus in the street, I wouldn’t eat Him so I guess that question could be taken in different ways if you look at it from different angles. I could never tell what I would do as I would probably be in shock. Hopefully I would fall at His feet and worship Him. After all, that is why He made me - to love and to worship Him in this world and in the next. As for the priest - I expect he would be equally gobsmacked!

Um, lets see why even get up when EVERYONE is blessed shortly after by the Priest!
It is a line for the Eucharist, those able to recieve , recieve everyone else remain in your pew please:blush: .
If you need to “feel” like your a part of something then make a spiritual act of communion while sitting in your pew!👍
