She told them leggings were too suggestive, so they wore them in protest—-

I assume the conversation is more about tight fitting pants. If that’s the case, i do wear tight fitting pants (skinny jeans, jeggings etc) to mass/everywhere. I think if it’s the right fit, they wouldn’t look scandalous. Even my dad who’s pretty unreasonable when it comes to my clothes don’t see anything wrong with it. If it’s too small or too thin, your legs and butt may look like sausages/about to burst out and I can see why that would be very inappropriate.

If we’re talking about leggings in particular, I wouldn’t because it seems a bit too casual for me. Like sweatpants. But it’s not something I’ll faint over unless it has one of those 3 things. I understand it’s a bit subjective since I don’t find anything wrong with denim to mass, but people may argue that it’s too casual.

I mean…do you think men should be top less in public? Women do lust over them yet we constantly make excuses. Yet discussions like the tightness of covered clothes for women are always around.

I don’t find anything wrong with denim per se, depending on on the region and setting. In the Novus Ordo Masses in my semi-rural area, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But in the FSSP parish jeans would not be appropriate.

I think men running around shirtless suggests either carefree youth or a lack of breeding, for many. I stopped doing it past “a certain age.”

Depends. It’s normal and expected on beaches.

I remember a Catholic speaker, who preaches about modesty, posted a picture of her and her husband at the pool. She was wearing a very modest swimsuit while her husband was shirtless. Young and very toned (ie with abs) too. That visual was pretty weird to me.

I think women’s lust/sexuality is always ignored and swept under the rug/dismissed as ‘outliers’ especially in Christian/Catholic circles.

Which is the reason why you see so many young women, who are pretty decent themselves, being extremely defensive when they’re told (again) that they shouldn’t wear certain things because of poor men.

Lust is the most commonly reported deadly sin, for men. It’s down the list a ways for women.

Why would they not be appropriate for one mass but not for another? 🤔 That doesn’t make any sense.

No the Middle Ages aren’t a good example of how to live.

Mary888:
I doubt people who were devout Christians would just put on a pair of leggings and go to Church.
The people in the article weren’t wearing leggings in church, just at a university.
Other articles on this issue are more detailed:
Maryann White urged female students to stop wearing leggings in a letter to the editor this week in The Observer, a student newspaper serving the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s and Holy Cross Colleges. She said young women wearing leggings make it harder for men not to look at their bodies. She said she was ashamed for the women she saw wearing leggings and crop tops at a Catholic Mass she attended.

Not at all, since it was a Vatican priest who compiled the stats over a period of decades.
I’m not going to post the link, it’s easy enough to find the report.

Different norms in different parishes. And it’s a very large diocese.

So a norm makes jeans inappropriate? What happens to someone that is visiting that wears jeans?

I don’t think someone wearing jeans would be turned away at the TLM High Mass (for example.) But they might get a little self conscious. And might get a look from the priest.
There was a priest in Southern Cal who gently chided the men to wear jackets to Mass. Fr. Louis Marx, RIP. He basically gave his life for his parish. Confessions every morning at 6 and 7:30 AM, something like that. Even when he had double pneumonia. Point is, he walked the walk and when he mentioned jackets everyone not wearing one squirmed. Me included.
I wouldn’t wear my CovCath top to the FSSP parish. Maybe a nice polo, but only with a jacket over it. Something like this:

🤔 I’ve worn leggings with a long shirt to cover behind, but recently each time I’ve put them on I feel like
I’m not dressed…and change into more loose fitting jeans .
I cringe and feel sad for girls that wear tight fitting leggings, you instinctivly want to protect their dignity (could be my daughters) and feel sad for the guys whose eyes gravitate towards rear ends.

I’m not a leggings wearer but my daughter is very sporty and loves leggings. If she happens to be going to mass or uni in anything tight, she does that too. She’s got a lovely collection of light weight duster coats just for that purpose. It’s not that hard to modesty up when appropriate.

Men are wired that way. Until the social engineers succeed in turning men into soft, obedient Eloi anyway.

Hey I have a duster!
Covers my single action holster nicely.
