Of course this kind of political venom is worse now. All of you are proving it with every post you write. Did people think this way in the past? Probably. Did they sit in front of a computer for hours writing and reading post after post about how the “other side” is wrong and “our side” is right? No they didn’t.

Just because of the Internet alone we are exposed to way, way more of this stuff than in the past. That doesn’t even include any number of television channels (Fox, MSNBC) that simply didn’t exist in past generations.

I’m convinced that A LOT of people spend an inordinate amount of time in front of their computers and going to sites like this, or Yahoo, or their local newspaper just to write hateful comments about things they don’t like.

Excellent points, but I predict they won’t be addressed in any substantive manner by those who are determined to pin the blame on Sarah Palin, Tea Partiers, and other political ‘enemies’. Apparently bullseyes and targets are only troubling/scary when used by the right.

The majority of cases have their onset between the ages of 16 and 25. It’s a real shame he wasn’t given help earlier; perhaps this whole tragedy could have been avoided if he had received the help he needed.

Oh I totally agree with you about not wanting individuals who blame these acts of Palin. It’s just the mod has made clear that we can’t suggest anyone is responsible for what happened without evidence. And I don’t want to see anyone stoop to the level of these people who are blaming Palin and the Tea Party for this senseless tragedy.

I heard a psychiatrist on the radio today who said the same thing. Paranoid schizophrenia.

The shooter was kicked out of college and told he could not return without a mental checkup.

The hateful comment was more about Internet boards in general. Not this thread. Although moderators here have given out warnings about being “uncharitable” more than once about this whole mess. And lets face it, when people can be anonymous, things are written that would never be said out loud.
