Should Christians assist the Jews to rebuild their Third Temple?

God’s view of the rebuilding of the temple is demonstrated by the fact that he had it destroyed 2,000 years ago and never permitted it to occur yet.

And that when it was attempted he rained down fire and brimstone on those who tried it, and struck many dead.

Christians with the lack of knowledge of history and doctrine to have the hubris to suggest that the Temple should be rebuilt, and we should help it, should recall how God treats people who touch the Holy of Holies without His express command.

The Lord Christ it is who determined the Temple would end, the veil be torn, all other sacrifices be rejected and cease to offend God.

Julian the Apostate, the Roman Emperor who so persecuted the Church, and is seen as a Type of the Anti-Christ, i.e. a historical event prefiguring what will happen in the future, in how it proceeds, attempted to rebuild the Temple for the Jews.

“During the night there arose a huge storm, the earth shook, and huge balls of fire burst forth from the ground and continued to do so through the next day. Instruments melted, workers were burnt to death, strange crosses appeared on clothes and bodies, and a luminous cross shone in the sky, and the enterprise had to be abandoned. A violent tremor caused a portico to collapse killing a number of workers.”

Eusebius

Jewish women “carried the dirt in their lap with no consideration for their robes and for the tenderness of their bodies, because they saw in all this a work of piety. … but. . . a sudden whirlwind and the convulsion of the earth caused them to rush to a nearby church. . . as they reached the door of the church, which was open, suddenly those doors closed as if by an invisible hand, which filled with fear the impious and protest the devout. It is reported unanimously and held for certain that when they tried to open the door of the church, flames that burst forth from the inside prevented them from forcing the door open. The flames then burnt some and destroyed others. … Still others lost various limbs of their bodies to the flames that burst from inside the church and burnt them to death.”

St. Gregory the Nazianzen

“Have you not heard how, when Julian had ordered the Temple of Jerusalem rebuilt, those who were carrying the rubbish were burned by the fire from heaven? Are you not afraid that this will happen also now?”

St. Ambrose

I may be wrong, but I believe that God will allow the Temple to be rebuilt. Doing so will fulfill the prophecy/statements made by St. Paul in his letter to the Romans.

And to Dennis, Shalom. Praise God for your acceptance of Yeshuah as the Meshiach. I do hope you convert to Catholicism. This is the fufillment of Judaism. Please contact

Shin, your response is certainly well researched and the details that you refer to are completely new to me.

I do agree that the rebuilding of the Third TEmple will not occur until the God of Abraham decides to give this blessing to the Jewish people.

The prophecies regarding King Cyrus in the book of Isaiah are astonishingly positive. How do these prophecies fit with the events that you refer to?

drbo.org/chapter/27045.htm
Thus saith the Lord to my anointed Cyrus, whose right hand I have taken hold of, to subdue nations before his face, and to turn the backs of kings, and to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut. 2 I will go before thee, and will humble the great ones of the earth: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and will burst the bars of iron. 3 And I will give thee hidden treasures, and the concealed riches of secret places: that thou mayest know that I am the Lord who call thee by thy name, the God of Israel. 4 For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have made a likeness of thee, and thou hast not known me. 5 I am the Lord, and there is none else: there is no God, besides me: I girded thee, and thou hast not known me:
King Cyrus assisted the Jewish people to restore their Jerusalem Temple.

It seems that the temple is restored, sacrifices have already been offered perhaps for 3.5 years and then it seems like an Antiochus type of person takes over in the temple previous to the coming of Messiah!

drbo.org/chapter/27066.htm
5 Hear the word of the Lord, you that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you, and cast you out for my name’s sake, have said: Let the Lord be glorified, and we shall see in your joy: but they shall be confounded.
6 **A voice of the people from the city, a voice from the temple, the voice of the Lord **that rendereth recompense to his enemies.

Hi Javi: I took my wife’s parents to mass back in 2006 and I was astonished how on that day Dr. Sid Mifflen did an amazing job of linking Catholicism with our roots in Judaism. His sermon is a major reason why I decided to take the course on Biblical Foundations at St. Francis Xavier in Antigonish.

The Jews even have teachings regarding a purgatory which sure do remind me of what I have read regarding many near death experience accounts.

I should add that Howard Storm in his extensive NDE did state that he was shown that the Messianic era was being set up over the next two centuries. This seems like an awfully long time to me, but if this is accurate it would sure fit with a restored Third TEmple complex in Jerusalem!?

near-death.com/experiences/storm03.html
Howard’s light being friends told him more about the new world to come. According to them, God wished to usher in the kingdom within the next two hundred years. In order to do so, God had rescinded some of the free will given to creatures, in favor of more divine control over human events. This new world order, according to Howard, will resemble some near-death descriptions of heaven. People will live in such peace and harmony and love that communication will be telepathic, travel instantaneous and the need for clothing and shelter eliminated. The lion will indeed lie down with the lamb.]

When he comes to man’s estate he will at first conceal his wickedness and craft under a mask of hypocrisy and apparent sanctity; he will be very zealous for the law of Moses, and pretend to despise all earthly things; to be an enemy of idolatry and a lover of the Sacred Scriptures. Although he will privately wallow in all kinds of impurity, he will outwardly condemn adultery and decry it as most criminal; he will be very charitable to the poor; in a word, he will put on such an appearance of virtue that many nations shall desire to have him as their king. He will draw the Jews to his side in crowds, and they will soon look on him and adore him as their long-expected Messiah, when they see that he is a sworn enemy of Christ and the Christian law and an upholder of the Jewish law and its ceremonies, and moreover that they can hope to profit by having him in power.
When he shall thus have raised himself to a high position in the world and secured a great number of followers, then this wicked serpent shall commence to spit out his poison and to spread his authority over the world by craft, promises, and force of arms. Besides Turks, heathens, and Jews, he will attract to his standard and subject to his authority countless numbers of Christians. That he will effect first by the riches, honors, dignities and sensual delights that he will place in the power of all his followers, as Daniel says of him: “He shall increase glory and shall give them power over many, and shall divide the land for nothing” (Dan. II: 39). For besides the immense revenues he shall have from conquered countries, the devil with the divine permission shall discover to him mines of gold and silver, and treasures hidden in the sea: “And he shall have power over the treasures of gold, and of silver, and all the precious things” (Dan. 11: 43). Alas! What an attractive bait that will be to ensnare the vain, ambitious, and greedy children of the world, who are already only too willing to grasp such things! How will they be able to withstand this seductive and powerful temptation?
Shin, this is an exceptionally interesting article but one possible mistake that a Christian could easily make is to confuse the blessings promised to the King Cyrus type in Isaiah chapters 42 to 46 with what is given to the Antichrist!

Yes we are all brothers in Christ no matter what religion we are.U:thumbsup:

“Let no one deceive you, for the day of the Lord will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition who opposes and is exalted above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he sits in the temple and gives himself out as if he were God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you, I used to tell you these things?”

St. Paul II Thess. 2:3-4

“At the time of his reign, Antichrist will command that Jerusalem be rebuilt in splendor, and will make it a great and populous city, second to none in the world and will order his palace to be built there.”

St. Irenaeus

“For, the Temple, which Solomon built having been destroyed, in its place he [Antichrist] shall restore it, he shall circumcise himself, and he shall give forth the lie that he is the son of the omnipotent God.”

St. Ambrose, Doctor of the Church [Liber Anselmi de Antichristo]

“Before the birth of her child, the mother of Antichrist will announce the advent of a Messias who will restore great prosperity to mankind.”

Pope St. Gregory the Great

"Antichrist will be of Jewish extraction, of the tribe of Dan, will be circumcized, will rebuild Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple, in which he will set himself up as God. Likewise, he is to begin his work of seduction among the Jews who will accept him as the Messias. Thus St. Irenaues (Adversus Haereses, v.30) says of the Antichrist: "Jeremias does not merely point out his sudden coming, but he even indicates the tribe from which he shall come, where he says: “We shall hear the voice of his swift horses from Dan – he shall come and devour the earth.” (Jer. 8:16)

St. Hippolytus, another bishop of the early Church, who suffered martyrdom in 235, wrote a treatise on Christ and Antichrist in which he says: "As Christ springs from the tribe of Juda, so Antichrist is to spring from the tribe of Dan. And that the case stands thus, we see also from the words of Jacob: ‘Let Dan be a serpent, lying upon the ground, biting the horse’s heel.’ (Gen. XLIV:17) What then is meant by the serpent but Antichrist. (De Antichristo, 6,14)

Catholic Encyclopedia, 1936

St. Irenaeus of Lyons

[St. Ambrose says that the Antichrist will attempt to prove from holy scripture that he is the Christ.]

'Towards the end of the world Antichrist will draw the hearts of the Jews towards him by his great generosity and sympathetic attitude so much so that they will praise him as a demi-god. The Jews will say to one another: “There is not a more virtuous, just and wise man than he to be found in our entire generation. Of all men, he certainly will be able to rescue us from all our miseries.”

St. Anselm

“Now he will be a veritable man, but so proud that, not only will be desire to have universal dominion in the whole world, but will even demand to be called a god, and will insist on receiving worship.”

… “The temporal lords and ecclesiastical prelates, for fear of losing power or position, will be on his side, since there will exist neither king nor prelate unless he wills it.”

St. Vincent Ferrer

According to St. Hippolytus, St. John Damascene, St. Irenaeus, St. Ephraem, St. Ambrose, St. Anselm:

The temple in which he will demand personal adoration is the temple at Jerusalem which Antichrist will by then have rebuilt.

The time makes hideous reading… infants and statues will speak, proclaiming Antichrist the Messiah…

Imagine as a mother your newborn infant speaking to you, and telling you to deny Christ.

There is a sermon on Julian the Apostate in the links below that goes into detail about the type of that time.

What did Jesus say about this topic?

John 4;20
Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain; 8** but you people say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem." **
21
**Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. **
22
You people worship what you do not understand; we worship what we understand, because salvation is from the Jews.
23
**But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; 9 and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him.
24
God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.” **

Jesus is the True Temple of God, of which he tore down (died) and in three days rebuilt it (resurrected). Technically this is the rebuilding of the Third and final temple of God forever.

God desires to live in the hearts and minds of men, not in a secluded building or rebuilding of a temple. We worship God in Spirit and Truth not from a building.

I am not against the Jews building a temple for their place of worship and nostalgic purposes in Jerusalem or any where else, but a third one? meaning the Jews are going to re-instate a priesthood and offer animal sacrifices? The Jews are going to have a huge animal rights fight on their hands, if they can get the Muslims to remove their mosque?

If the Dome Mosque remains you don’t have a rebuilding of the Temple a third time, what you have is a wonderful gesture of helping Jews build another place of worship not a rebuilding of the temple.

Our Parish is in need of funds to help build our new Church and school, anybody want to donate?

I think the Jews may succeed in rebuilding the Temple but believe Gabriel12’s answer is the correct one for us to focus and put our trust in…

I wonder the motives of other Christians wanting to rebuild the Temple…don’t understand why they would want to…many of us have alot of compassion for the Jewish people and how they have suffered…but I personally do not think it is our place to interject ourselves that far…

I had the same thoughts you have, about other Christian motives wanting to rebuild the Jewish temple?

I would like to hear Other Christians motives in support of rebuilding the Jewish temple? Do they assume that God will make his presence known in a structure apart from our humanity? When all those ages and generations past looked for the time of Jesus (messiah), God finally becomes flesh of our flesh and bone of our bones through his beloved Son Jesus Christ. Would God want to move back in a building and seclude His (Himself) Presence from our hearts and minds as in times past when God placed his name in the temple.

As a Christian I say YES! We should help our Jewish brethren to rebuild their Third Temple. If we read Romans !!, God HAS NOT rejected the Jews. They are still His chosen people. He may have chastised them, but He has never rejected them!

If we follow the teachings of Jesus and call ourselves Christians, then it is our duty to help our Jewish brethren. No matter your argument(s), it would be wrong to say no!
I say “Yes” too!

Some people, especially pop-evangelicals, think that the Temple was a site for cantatas and revivals.

Not true.

It was a glorified slaughterhouse. It even had its own stockyards where people could purchase sacrificial victims.

Finally, according to the Bible, this Third (or maybe Fourth) Temple will become the Temple of Antichrist.

Do you actually think Christians should help to build this?

I think we should help build up our own churches…Many are badly in need of expensive repairs…Should we restore the Dali Lama’s city of Lhasa?

I think the faithful of other religions should assume these things themselves

Just a side thought…

But…after the fall of AntiChrist…would ever Jerusalem be restored as the seat of true faith?..or may be not…Jerusalem was overcome a number of times…

or is the end of the reign of the last AntiChrist…then also the passing of this heaven and earth and Christ’s last judgment?..with a new heaven and new earth…?

What kind of help do you think Jews need from Christians to rebuild the Temple?

No,
I sure don’t want them building my cathedral.
Its not like we expect them to or anything.

If you are asking me, I stated it earlier, and we should not be…we have our own churches to rebuild…I mean the faith…not physical structures…

All Christians should support Jewish freedom of religion!

Since I began thinking about this issue several years ago I have done quite a bit of waffling back and forth but at this time in my life I am essentially certain that all Christians should pray and spend time studying this question and seriously consider giving our personal support to the ultimate expression of freedom of religion for the Jewish people which is the construction of the Third Temple complex and their right to offer kosher sacrifices therein.

I would like to introduce you to Mr. Boruch Fishman Director of People for a Bill to Build the Bet HaMikdash:

RE: Creating the blueprints for the Third Temple

Hi Mr. Tate:

I read about your support of the rebuilding of the Temple in Israel. I am
pasting below a letter I am sending out regarding efforts to create the
blueprints for the Temple. I would truly appreciate your support. And, if you are interested in more than mere personal support for the project, I will be happy to get together with you about ideas for a community project in your area.

By the way, while Gershon Soloman’s name is not mentioned in the letter, he is in the back of our minds as our project moves towards the actual building of the Temple.

Dear Sirs:

I am the Director of People for a Bill to Build the Bet HaMikdash, (the
Third Temple). My organization received important support from UNESCO this year,
when UNESCO put a link to my organization on their official web site. I
attribute this support to the fact that my organization is the only organization
in the community of organizations dedicated to rebuilding the Jewish Temple in
its place, which created a complete plan for rebuilding the Temple, which does
not rely on a miracle or act of violence. We also support the continuance and
safety of the Al Aksa Mosque, the third most important building to Moslems,
which sits on the southern part of the Temple Mount, no where near the location
of the ancient Jewish Temples.

Coupled with the above, my organization supports limited yet specific
exploration by world experts to determine the exact location of the earlier
Temples. And we support subsequent committee hearings between the City of
Jerusalem, the Waqf, the builders and UNESCO to discuss the all important
question of movement of structures, which do sit on top of the actual building
site. The International Association of Big Building Movers has also informed us
that there are two companies in the world capable of moving the beautiful Dome
of the Rock, a few hundred meters to the North-Western Corner of the Temple
Mount.
Politics is the art of the possible. This is not possible. This is asking for a huge clash with 1 billion Muslims. Do we really want that? Wait till I am dead before starting something like this. Wait until my children’s children’s children are dead.
