Should prostitution be legalized?

Btw, in the FICTIONAL tv show “Firefly”, there is a character who maintains a career as a high-price companion/prostitute just because she likes it. It’s really entertaining, but not realistic at all.

But when the law is changed, the state is effectively giving the message that this is now acceptable. To legalise prostitution would be for the state to give the green light of acceptability to prostitution. The lack of legal deterrent would likely lead to an increase in prostitution.

And as for homosexual sexual relationships, do all Catholics believe that homosexual sexual relationships are wrong? I would question that assumption of yours.
 
Everything is a power play. We all work for someone because they have money and we need it.

Simply repeating your personal assumptions doesn’t make it true.

If you want to influence open readers to your view you need to provide some form of argument or authority to back up your own untested opinion.

I am a Catholic and I do not believe that all SS sexual relationships are mortally sinful.
But then neither does the Church. Yes it teaches they are disordered.

The Church teaches that homosexual acts, adultery and fornication are gravely disordered.
All loyal Catholics accept that.

Which is quite a different question from saying that it is wrong for the State to legislate for Civil Unions, not criminalise fornication or decriminalise sodomy, adultery and prostitution.

Should the State criminalise fornication? How successful/helpful do you think that would be?
Do you think society needs to criminalise it for most sensible citizens to realise teenage sex is not helpful to the common good?

I don’t consider most of the paid work I’ve done a “power play.” I’ve enjoyed my decidedly non-prostitution job, kept my clients pleased, and accepted my hard-earned paycheck. The relationship is egalitarian and consensual.

This is not so for more oppressed and exploited people, as prostitutes all too often are.
If there’s coercion, threats, abuse, addiction, unplanned pregnancies, abortions (which pimps are inclined to force), a boss taking up to half of their earnings, and STDs involved, (some johns prefer no condom), then the benefits from sex work would be negligible at best.

It may not be as extreme in degree. But the principle remains the same.

We work for people who have resources so that we can get necessities in life. Some employers are better than others.

I know multiple sex workers who do the work because it’s a job that they enjoy.

NO! It does not help!!! It means they are resigned and have lied to themselves about their worth. That means they believe that GOD did not make them for more then that!

They don’t seem “resigned”, one is currently studying nursing, another is looking at restarting his degree in journalism. They view their self worth as highly as anyone.
 
So? It still means they think prostitution is ok. Which makes them wrong.
 
That is their problem then. Though I will say a prayer for God to change their heart.

I agree, people who think prostitution is okay are wrong. There is no and ifs or buts about it. We should pray for them, because they probably aren’t close to God.
