Aparently a degree is one of the most devastating contraceptives there are. Or so it was said.
People say a lot of things that we shouldn’t waste time on.
Like the earth being flat and the moon landing was faked.

So, returning to your point, it depends what you mean by “do something with it”. Is a degree in history, for example, only “helpful” if you want to become a history teacher? If that were to be the case, one would have to wonder about the purpose of history in education, since its only immediately obvious benefit would appear to be the production of another generation of history teachers. I suppose you could somewhat broaden out the benefits of an education in history to include museum curators, tour guides, people who make history documentaries for TV, and authors of historical novels. But I would argue that a history degree (or a degree in philosophy or English) has much broader benefits both for the individual student and for society as a whole. As well as lawyers, doctors, engineers, and architects, we also need people who preserve and contribute to our culture, memory, and identity and who possess the skills of critical inquiry necessary to sustain thing like good governance and a free press
Someone could have a hobby centered around and there are many resources on history that are probably less expensive than a degree.
Who maintains and adds to the resources on history or art or philosophy?

These deposits are usually maintained and added to by those who specialize in these fields and not by those who tinker in it as some sort of hobby.

There are many in Saudi Arabia and other muslim countries that feel the same way about women.

Lots of people say lots of things on this Catholic forum. It doesn’t mean they speak for all Catholics that we would need to feel embarrassed. This forum would cease to exist if everyone was worried about what other Catholics are saying. There are always others that will correct any comments that are truly misrepresenting Catholicism. No need to feel embarrassed. 🙂

However women in Saudi Arabia are not kept from higher education.

Women can only be treated by women physicians so women do attend medical school. There are banks for women staffed mostly by women. So there are opportunities for women even in Saudi Arabia.

Only thing though is the male guardianship system which treats women as perpetual minors.

Women in the United States will never be treated as equals until the Equal Rights Amendment is passed and ratified.

University is now being viewed as a glorified trade school.
Respectfully rather being told what to think, rather to personally explore, question, search out, examine, experiment and think out of the box for ourselves maybe?

The last hundred years came the fastest exploration, inventions, discoveries…We went …from horse and buggy to going to the moon less then a hundred years, knowledge exploded did it not? Why???

In that era we had no room full of bought toys, nor fancy playgrounds, cell phones, TV in every room etc etc…out side we went to play, explore, invent our own games, can’t afford a toy car, we built a home made one…we used our own mind, our own imagination to create things, right?..Sitting in a class room reading what others did, we lose to further achieve, invent, explore, examine our own surroundings right?

Thinking for ourselves, exploring, creating on our own…we were curious…we invented and found ways to entertain ourselves…through own imagination …right? Outside from morning till night…running, playing, skating on ponds, had to do housework for the good of the family, we learned how to cook and took care of ourselves at an earlier age, strong work habits, disciplined…etc… we were healthier physically for it…we .worked at much earlier age,…etc…today not so?

The earth, was our playground during the last hundred years… …we explored…animals, wild life, insects, plants, built and with our imagination created our own tree houses with what we had…not so today… etc…

Finland has an excellent school system out doors more… then in the class room, children create, design their own play grounds, schools…think for themselves, allowed to be creative…no set school day plan, do what they want…etc…or put forth their own interest where others explore such…learning by trial and error is how we learn. right?

The greatest inventions of the world… were created not in class rooms or in universities… but in ones own …garage…ones own back yard…

And those who are blessed and naturally gifted we can never learn what they have been gifted with right?

Peace

Are there negatives in a woman earning a degree?
Out of curiosity, how were you expecting this thread to go? Did you poke a stick into a hornet’s nest only to find it was vacant? 😉
The thoughts contained in the op were tucked away in a thread that not many people might visit. And it was off topic to that thread. I thought comments such as were posted need to be viewed by as many people as possible.

Having them out in the open allows people to respond accordingly. I always believe that views like that should be out in the bright sunlight.

Are there negatives in a woman earning a degree?
No. When Christianity starts viewing women as nothing more than the potentiality of their wombs, it is no-longer Christianity but is instead the ignorance of insecure men clothed in scripture and their vulgar interpretations of it.

Respectfully our greatest inventors, famous scientist, engineers, mathematicians, astronomers, anthropologist never had degrees were self educated…thinkers…for them selves?

Had no University nor degrees
Lenonardo da Vince 1452-1519
Antonie Vanleeu Wenhoek 1632-1723…first microbiologist
Benjamin Franklin 1706-1790 …Americas first Scientist
Mary Anning 11799-1847 plagntologist
Charles Dawrin neturalist
Henrietta Swan Leavih astrohomer
Mary Smerille …mathematician

Yes respectfully not to offend either, but agree woman should be treated as equals! For all creation… human or other wise…are unique and gifted. Rather to search within and develop our individual uniqueness, talents that contributes toward for the good of all.

Woman realizing the sacredness, beauty of their own bodies, to cherish, care for…being …able also to bring forth the sacred gift of Life…a great blessing given indeed…Peace 💓

Greatest world inventions, discoveries were created having no degrees, by men, woman and done so many in garages…🙂.

Greatest world inventions were created in garages…
It depends on the field.

If you want to discover something new in the field of subatomic physics it helps to have a particle accelerator.

I don’t think you can find it in a garage.

On the flip side, amateur astronomers have contributed to the field of astronomy.

In my imagination I picture that somewhere in heaven, crowned in glory and surrounded by Saints and angels of whom she is also queen, Our Lady is facepalming at this thread.

That doesn’t really fit her character, you know?

To seal the grave here…
CCC 369 Man and woman are both with one and the same dignity “in the image of God.”
CCC 1605 The woman, “flesh of his flesh,” i.e., his counterpart, his equal (emphasis added)
